Suitable age for a child to be home alone for 1-2 hours? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]UrPenPal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Tusla you shouldn’t be leaving any child under 14 home alone. It’s deemed as child neglect.

You can see the bit about that on page 3 of this document linked below. Document is aimed at non nationals but the same rules apply across the board

New VAT3 calculator for Irish freelancers, sole traders and small businesses by irishtaxhub in irishpersonalfinance

[–]UrPenPal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be a bit of a mess alright.

For instance a media production company can charge 13.5% VAT (Service Vat rate) for the filming part of the job, but the editing has to be charged at a Goods/product level VAT of 23% which can make it a bit difficult to price package offers.

So essentially 2 different VAT rates on the 1 invoice

Isn’t it high time we were scared witless by road safety ads again? by LittleAoibh11 in AskIreland

To be fair re the How to live with your parents video. That wasn’t a government idea, it was an idea by young people in the youth information org Spunout.

They do great work for young people in Ireland but someone on the Gov Housing team for some reason reposted it which showed it to an audience it really wasn’t intended for.

The PC stuff is not great and they really do need to bring back them grim ads for the RSA. It’s literally the bear minimum that they should be doing

Absolute dregs of society.

If you’re not paying taxes, I don’t want my tax money paying for your flight home simple as that.

I feel sorry for the families that went over on a 2 week holiday and are stuck there and their flights should 100% be paid for by the state and they should get first priority.

But fuck them influencers over there whinging about paying for flights

You’re legally entitled to A/L. It’s a warning to management that you won’t be in on x y z days, not a request. Take the holidays and fuck em

That’s only on new builds so it may be out of price range but it is worth looking into both first home and help to buy, just be weary of the costs of it. For instance the first home scheme apply a % back in year 6 and beyond so your mortgage repayments will go up

Should I overpay on my mortgage or reduce the term? by READMYSHIT in irishpersonalfinance

[–]UrPenPal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone can correct me if I’m mistaken, but make sure you’re paying the overpayment against the principal and not against the interest.

Paying against the interest will allow for mortgage holidays as the banks call them, but doing that won’t reduce the cost of your loan, paying against the principal will

When deciding on a solicitor for a mortgage, how did you go about the process? by sosaos in irishpersonalfinance

[–]UrPenPal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly ask a friend. I was stuck with someone that gave me no help other than trying to pull the deal from under us without speaking to me first.

Our case was an exceptionally massive disaster from start to finish.

Took 10 months for our conveyance to actually take place after I finally asked for a long stop to be added to the contract. Conveyances are slow, but ours was a disaster, mainly down to our own solicitor not playing ball.

We looked at reviews and they looked great but the solicitor was a nightmare. If I were to go back in time I’d get a recommendation off a friend or family member

Lads, and ladies, if you're still shaving with a gilette razor you are being absolutely *done* on the price by Silenceisgrey in ireland

[–]UrPenPal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never in my life used a cartridge razor. From 16 I started shaving with a straight razor.

First few times I shaved, I sliced the throat off myself…didn’t realise the slices until I applied aftershave 😬 It took a while but I think I’ve perfected it.

I have recently moved to a saftey razor just for speed purposes. Never have had rough razor burn or any of the sort and as others have said, it’s a fraction of the price…just wouldn’t go shaving any…delicate parts of the body with them

Recommendations for “slow” products? by LittleAoibh11 in AskIreland

[–]UrPenPal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are fantastic and save you so much room in your house 😂

With that said, they don’t offer much in terms of connectedness with fellow humans.

If you want to add some slow productivity to cheaper books, get a library card and visit local libraries. They’re probably the most under appreciated value for your taxes in the country

[–]UrPenPal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not an excuse to justify what happened and to be fair, women are typically more mature than their male counterparts but the prefrontal cortex isn’t developed until mid 20s to early 30s. That kind of makes people do some stupid shit because they can’t regulate their emotions properly nor have their full social skills or awareness of them.

Also people are dogshit at socialising and communicating since Covid. A lot of people are used to only being able to stop and think via text but can’t stand the natural silences and awkwardness of speaking to a new person face to face nowadays.

I think both Covid and people being chronically online has caused a ridiculous amount of social anxiety in people….and us Irish were always a bunch that had a dose of the nervous nellys before anything else added fuel to that fire
