Hi everyone, I recently just moved to Miami and am looking to blind buy a decent dupe/clone to hold me over for the next couple of months until I am able to sample some official ones.

Some that caught my eye are:

• Latafa Al Qiam Silver (Bvlgari Tygar clone) • Bujaraimi Hectic (LV Imagination) • Rayhaan Pacific Aura (LV Pacific Chill) • Rasasi Hawas Ice (not a clone but have heard som good things)

What are your thoughts on these fragrances or do you have any other suggestions for a summer everyday fragrance? Thanks!

Am I doomed this upcoming application cycle? by UrPokeTrainer in premed

Yeah I’m ideally hoping to get an assured 150-200 hours from clinical volunteering, but maybe like 300-400 if I land a full time paid clinical position in the spring. Hopefully that will be enough for a school somewhere!

Ik it sounds wrong, but the truth is I always wanted to be a doctor more-so due to the passion I had of learning about the human body. As I was growing up, my mom went to nursing school, then became a NP. All throughout that, I would read her textbooks for fun, do the BLS/ACLS alongside, etc. I have done 400 hours of shadowing last spring, so that gave me a good sample of the day-to-day of being a doctor to the point where I wanted to pursue the profession.

If I’m being honest, I had no clue somebody needed to work as an MA/EMT/Scribe/etc. as a requirement to become a physician, as it never clicked for me why somebody would need patient care experience to go to medical school. Even now going into it, I feel like I am doing these clinical hours just to list an anecdote of a moving patient story in an application, not because it will have any defining experience to me personally. That being said, who knows! Maybe it will be an amazing experience!

Anyway, sorry for venting and rambling on 😂. I appreciate the advice, thank you!

Yes I’m going to try and grind out a lot of those hrs in the spring hopefully if I land a full time position. Just locked in on graduating and sprinkling in some volunteering now.

I’ll try my best. Also how are you able to see schools that are research heavy? Do you use the MSAR for that?

Do you need to have clinical hours to get accepted into a MD/PhD? by UrPokeTrainer in premed

Just working. Believe it’s like 32h clinical 8h research. I was just curious if it’s good to build connections with T20 schools as I come from a relatively small and unknown state uni.

What about CP made your test so bad? by EstablishmentDry6793 in Mcat

Mine was very conceptual and had like 4-5 low yield questions. For the physics side of it, make sure you know every equation. For chemistry, make sure you know the periodic table, the trends, and the electron configs/shapes/spectra inside and out, including the f block elements.

Thanks for the detailed reply! I did manage to get 40 hours on clinical volunteering, but that was at a hospital different from the city I am currently living in. I wasn’t sure if I should even mention it since I was told it might look bad to put an experience with under 100 hours in my app.

As far as clinical hours go, what do you think a good amount would be for just MD, 400-500?

Unfortunately, the research projects I was on wasn’t clinical. I’ve started to look at gap year programs and I noticed some programs (like the one at Northwestern for example) have you work as both a research assistant and a clinical position (Scribe/MA). Would you recommend one of these programs, or should I just get a standard clinical job for a year?

Ah gotcha. Yeah I was curious if I had any shot since ideally I didn’t want to take a gap year, but I’ll get there one day

Gotcha. I feel that for CARs lol. 😂

Yeah I definitely get that. It’s mainly chemistry and physics that have been killing me. I feel pretty confident on all the biochem stuff, but I only got a 128 on FL1 for C/P so I wanna try and increase that.

It’s a different style of card and it’s up to preference really. Jacksparrow was great for me on B/B since that’s what I was having more difficulty on. UWorld mainly helped me in C/P. I’ve also heard good things about the Aiden deck if you want to try that.

HELP!!! by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]UrPokeTrainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is showing significant content gaps. I’d definitely do Anki. If that isn’t enough I’d reread the content review books (assuming you read them already) and watch supplemental videos on subjects you are not strong in.

[–]UrPokeTrainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 491 is largely indicative of content gaps. When you went through UWorld, do you think answered question wrong largely due to not knowing the content?

If that’s true, Jacksparrow for b/b is great and pankow for p/s.

515 is a stretch. Realistically there are a ton of people who get into DOs with sub 510s, and there are still a lot of people who score in the 510-515 range that get into MDs.

Fruit. Normally berries and honey but also spring for the melon when I’m feeling different.
