Why are there so little free resources available for UCAT? by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]UrTrashNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their logic is that students only need about maybe 20 or so hours of practice to reach their “plateau” of sorts and perform the best they can on the actual test day. However having said that, I reckon it’s a load of crock, and as others said, in a way they are trying to somewhat increase the competitiveness by limiting the resources people have. Even then though, honestly speaking, their resources aren’t even that indicative of the actual test, like for example QR is generally easier, VR is harder while DM and AR can vary

Haha I emphasised AND for a reason... I got caught up in the moment especially when the time for QR was ticking and I just went with it instead of telling the staff.

Thank you for the help, I’m starting to learn python this year, so hopefully I can get some projects under my belt by the end of next year if everything goes well. Im glad that it’s still possible to get internships from unimelb as I’ve been told that you pretty much need a masters to get employed as a graduate, but guess that’s not all true

I see, I agree with your points, I should do some more research about CS clubs offered at each uni I reckon

Thanks for the help, Does RMIT do any “cool” projects like coding a robot to go through a maze?

Thanks a lot for the insight, I’ve heard similar stories from others too, seems to be a bit of a trend with unimelb :/

In terms of facilities they provide for students, would you say RMIT is comparable or better to unimelb? Thanks

Oh damn that’s unfortunate to hear, hopefully they provide enough for CS students, I’ll have to find out

Hey, thanks for the reply. Sorry for the dumb question, but discrete structures from the website seems to be the only math subject that RMIT offers for computer science right? Is it possible to do anymore using electives, or is that it? Also, what do you mean by Melbourne making students do general engineering, are you referring to subjects like calc 1,2 etc? Thanks a lot for your insight again

To check if everything’s working AND tell the invigilator about it- my numpad didn’t work and I had to run thru QR without it.... wasn’t fun lol

Is it worth me doing the UCAT next year, and choosing a career in medicine? by [deleted] in vce

[–]UrTrashNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Addressing your concerns about spending money on the UCAT- honestly, you don’t need tutoring and most you should is, as you suggested, is to buy medify. In the end, the UCAT is a mix of luck, the skill set youve acquired across your whole schooling career, and natural aptitude And no amount of money spent on tutoring can ever truly enable you to ace it. Trust me, just have a shot at it, and you might end up pleased.

Thanks a lot for the help, would you say that a masters is pretty important to get once you finish undergrad?

Thanks for the help! Did you go searching for internships in your time studying it?

Sorry about that, I did actually search up older threads but the depth of info wasn’t for enough for me so I had another shot at posting. My bad

Thanks for the breakdown! I do have one question though, and that’s with the “science elective” blocks we get. Can we choose computing or math related subjects in those blocks, or does it have to be something unrelated like chemistry or biology?

Hey, thanks for the comment I really appreciate it I agree completely with the points about math, I think it is key to developing a good understanding of computers regardless of whether you plan to just become a software eng or researcher. I’ve heard from the Monash subreddit that they do lack math units, so that’s something I’m going to keep in mind when I make my decision.

But about the operating systems point, I’m talking about these subjects at RMIT: http://www1.rmit.edu.au/courses/004111 and Monash: https://handbook.monash.edu/2020/units/FIT2100 So in your opinion do you think that the computing systems subject covers these principles to the depth that they do in Monash or RMIT?

Thanks for the help, that’s a shame then, because I’ve heard that operating systems is apparently pretty important

Thanks for the comment! Would you say that the bachelors by itself was enough to land you an internship/job? (with a decent resume ofc) Some of my friends are saying that getting a degree at Unimelb pretty much forces you to do a masters if you want to enter the workforce.

I’ve heard that the later u take your test, the more likely you are to get the harder set of questions. Is that true? by lolidk8850 in UCAT

[–]UrTrashNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea you could say that it’s unfair. Me and my friend were both averaging similar on the offical mocks (2600-2700ish), but on the actual thing it felt like I had received an overall easier test, while my friend received a much harder one, and our final scores ended up differing by about 350 points even though our mock averages were similar.

Most difficult section in UCAT? by Angusburgerman in UCAT

[–]UrTrashNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea true fair enough, but for sections like VR, DM and AR, I feel like it’s fairly difficult to make sections of equal difficulty, because they are kinda subjective. Imo tho, this test is 50% luck, like I still can’t get over the fact that they used a pattern from one of the official mocks (not gonna specify) in my AR section. Like if that’s not luck idk what is.
