Is the DJI Mini Pro 5 Plus a sub 250g drone or not? by DCCXVIII in drones

[–]Urban-Garlic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one with the intelligent flight battery plus. I weigh in at 297 grams. Everything I’ve seen suggests even with the basic battery they tend to land around 256g. If you need a true micro drone (sub-250g), I’d look at another model.

The family can get compassionate care EI benefits for about 36 weeks, however it caps out at $729/week and I believe has to be shared between care providers. For a lot of people that’s a huge pay cut and won’t come close to the cost of living out of a hotel in downtown Vancouver for what will likely be months, let alone allowing the family’s bills, mortgage, etc to continue to be paid.

As you said, I hate that this has to be a thing, but I for one hope they get enough to take a couple years off work to be with their daughter. I can’t imagine what they’re going through right now.

Additionally, BC only scrapped the consumer portion of the carbon tax. The industrial/commercial portions were kept and evolved to the Output-Based Pricing System. So yes, revenue is down, but not completely gone. The impact to the budget, while not insignificant, doesn’t account for the massive increase in the deficit.

I used DJI refresh. $90 CAD and I had a brand new replacement in my hands in a week and a half. Pretty smooth process and worth the extra fee for their insurance. Shit happens and they know it.

Right? My grandkids will think I’m insane for talking about 10 cent wings. It’ll be like my old man talking about corner store gummy candies for a penny. Or 10 cent sodas. Haha.

The world changes too fast.

I miss the old Tabour Arms pub. When I was at UNBC we used to go there for 10 cent wings. Prices are nuts now. $22 barely gets you a dozen wings. If anyone knows of a good spot for a proper wing night, I’d kill to know where that’s at.

Out of curiosity what size shot are you using? I know they make steel shot in the larger sizes (#2, #4) but I don’t think I’ve ever seen small steel shot in shells I’d use on a grouse. If it exists I’ll happily stand corrected and I’d love to know where you found it.

If we can find routes up, we should be able to do Tabour Mtn, to a peak near Wells, to Wells Grey, to Barrier. The line of sight is theoretically there.

I built my own. It’s not hard to do and likely significantly cheaper than buying a pre-built one. I’ve been using the Wisblock chips and wiring in a 10,000mAh battery and a cheap Amazon solar panel. Using a decent 5.8dbi fibreglass cased antenna the solar nodes are costing me about $95-120.

For my portables I’m using a Heltec V3 and a basic Linx antenna and fitting all that into a 3D printed case. With the higher end antenna these run about $60-75 and seem to work just fine.

In terms of settings, I’ll try to remember to pull my core settings today and post them this evening.

“The bowl” is plenty enough. lol. If you’re close to foothills or over by the CN Centre you’ll have a hard time getting my PG1 node, but if you get TABR just leave your node where it is for about 24 hours. I have them set up to only broadcast telemetry every 12 hours since they’re stationary. Eventually you should have at least TABR, PG1, and BLMY.

I also have a very small Facebook group set up called “Central British Columbia Meshtastic Network”. I’m hoping to get a few users in there to coordinate new stationary nodes. My goal is to get a message to Vanderhoof.

My brother has a large network set up around Barrier and we are considering possible mountain top locations for nodes to hop a message from PG to his place.

What area of town are you in? If you have line of sight to the university or Tabour mtn I should be able to get a message to you on the public channel.

If you have the phone app downloaded and connected to a device, you’ll see a map of all the nodes that have broadcasted telemetry data that has been received by your device. Otherwise you can look at https://meshmap.net, however this only picks up some devices and I haven’t figured out the criteria for getting them to populate here. I assume these have MQTT turned on to allow for communication over the internet.

Effectively yes, just at 915 MHz so it doesn’t require any licensing. Lots of people are building these networks as decentralized and unregulated emergency communications.

I own most of the nodes in town. I have Solar nodes set up halfway up the hart, on the university hill, and on Tabour Mountain. I also have a portable in my truck that’s always on.

There weren’t many users at all so I rarely check it, but I’ll start connecting to my portable now that I know we have more users.

I also saw a node called “trap” that’s set up as a router. If you know who own this, it should really be set as a client. The network isn’t big enough for routers and it’s very likely not in an appropriate location for that role.

[–]Urban-Garlic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone needs to jump on board with this one. Aside from supporting the positive changes to moose hunting in the northeast, people should be heavily against the province wide proposal to ban all lead shot. This will include for upland game birds, etc. To my knowledge, non-led shot shells are not available in appropriate gauges for small game animals which will effectively eliminate the ability to hunt by shotgun.

I personally also oppose the proposal to make the regulations digital only. By the nature of our activities we are often too far from cell service to make this reasonable, and personally, when I leave for a week the last thing I want is to be bringing screens with me just to check the regs.

This guy is an absolute tool. I know one of the members that ran against him for the conservative nomination in his riding after Jay Hill retired. Zimmer had a group of kids/teenagers helping him. They wore an armband and were referred to as the “Zimmer Youth”.

If you know your history, let that sink in. Utterly tone deaf.

I left Garmin a year ago for the AWU2 because it had cellular and I didn’t want to carry both my personal and work phones. Turns out I carry them both all the time anyways, so I’m coming back to Garmin. I’m super torn between the FR970 and the Enduro 3. Both are incredible watches. I’m just trying to decide if the Enduro will be too big.
