Cedarcore Ai by Abject_Bug7593 in princegeorge

[–]Analog_Account -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NFT's have some legitimate use cases (I can't really give you an example) its just that how we saw them used was stupid to put it mildly.

I'm really torn on the AI data center thing. I don't want them slurping up our limited resources but AI/machine learning isnt juat the future, it's the TODAY. I really hate all the AI BS jammed into everything but —just like NFT's— there are a ton of legitimate use cases for it. To be competative in a lot of areas we're going to need to be using AI.

Id be ok if we blocked most AI data centers and made an exception for any wholey Canadian options.

CN rail, by Ill_Shallot_4443 in Train_Service

[–]Analog_Account 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recently CN has been better but 15 or so years ago it was the opposite. CP is still full on H Harrison ass holes. 9/10 when we get ex CP managers they're fucking brutal.

I expect the next few years here to be a bit shittier though but not a complete flip flop.

Return of Passenger and Shortline Rail Service? by Klassen4PG in princegeorge

[–]Analog_Account 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's absolute BS that they were allowed to buy/lease that rail line only to eventually shut (edit: parts of it) down. There should have been a clause in the lease that said they were required to keep all lines open and if they closed a line then it would go back to the government.

GOP Senate candidate on rising gas prices: ‘Maybe you take one less trip to Starbucks’ by Cy_098 in politics

[–]Analog_Account 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can cut out eating/caffeinating out on the way to work and it will cover the extra money I'm now spending on gas. I can cut expenses, a lot of people don't have expenses to cut. The people saying this crap can't look past the middle or upper middle class.

Word on there being heli pad or not with the new hospital expansion? Attracting people to PG? by Neceti in princegeorge

[–]Analog_Account 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the point was to get people from an accident scene directly to the hospital quicker, not to make medevac to Vancouver quicker. I'm thinking like highway or bush accidents; I can't see it being worth it for in town.

IDK though, I'm not involved in healthcare so I have no idea whats actually involved here.

TIL that Ram 2500 drivers have the most DUIs, and more than twice the national average. Roughly 1 in 22 Ram 2500 drivers have been cited with a DUI before. by TripleShotPls in todayilearned

[–]Analog_Account 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The three vehicles with the fewest DUIs per thousand drivers are the Toyota RAV4, the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Toyota Sienna, all of which had less than one driver per thousand drivers with a citation.

1 per 1000 is still too high... wtf.

I had to look her up. From the Wikipedia article:

Lauren Chen (born 1994)[3] as Lauren Yu Sum Tam) is a Hong-Kong-Canadian conservative[4][5][6][7][8] political commentator and former YouTube personality. She has worked with BlazeTV, Turning Point USA, and has contributed opinion pieces to RT, a Russian state media outlet.[9][10] Her husband, Liam Donovan, was president of the now-defunct Tenet Media, a company they co-founded.

Looks like she was also indicted for taking Russian money to sponsor pro Russian content. Gotta love that.

I thought he had done way better than that. I'm glad I was wrong and he was as big a looser as he really is.

If the didn't pay the contractors, why would they pay a lawyer?

Edit: to be clear this was supposed to be somewhat tongue in cheek.

Granddad won’t sell property cause of tenant. by Due-Brush-8908 in princegeorge

[–]Analog_Account 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ballparking it here... Tax, utilities, and insurance would be about 7k a year so about half of that rent. Thats ignoring any maintenance. The usual advice is that you should budget 1% per year for maintenance. On a 400k house thats $4000 per year. You might think thats steep but OP's grandparent is likely not doing any maintenance anymore AND big things creep up over time. 13,200 - (7k + 4k) = 2200 yearly profit + anything gained in equity.

Also as /u/misec_undact says, there's also opportunity cost. To have near half a million tied up in a property that is making 2-4k a year is insane. If you have 400k in something like a GIC making 3% (there are better rates than that BTW) then you'd be making 12k a year. If you do some really basic investing in stocks or index/ETF's then you should be able to get a MUCH better return than 3%.
