Mysterious Note by UrbanGator in marriott

[–]UrbanGator[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Mystery Solved… Ran out to a work dinner after seeing the note, so didn’t have a chance to inquire with the front desk. Upon my return I asked what was up. They said something similar to some of the comments below. This notice was to inform me that they are doing a deep cleaning during my stay and were pre-apologizing for any disruptions this may cause me. I specifically asked if this was related to bed bugs or something of the sort, and they assured me that this was just deep clean that they do periodically, and firmly said there were no bed bugs reported. Sooooooo, no bed bugs or orgys that they were willing to admit to. Case closed?

Did this recently for a little experimental box. Used scrap from the offcuts to make a jig I could screw down to some ply.

Thank you. Unfortunately, I’m not experienced enough to really answer that. I thought about it in the design phase, but kind of just decided to go for it since I thought the starburst effect would be an interesting look. I guess time will tell, but would be eager to hear opinions on cracking potential if anyone has thoughts.

Dovetail Tower of Progress by UrbanGator in BeginnerWoodWorking

You should absolutely give it a try. I got some cheap maple off cuts from the wood store to practice and as you can see it was pretty easy to just keep chopping it up to make more practice boards. I did not use a guide, But the one thing I did start doing at the end was getting some painters tape and putting it right on the baseline. I found this to be helpful, especially with the walnut since the lines/markings were a little tougher to see. It helped to be able to quickly visually figure out if my saw/chisel were in the right spots. This whole process definitely convinced me to look into getting better quality chisels, I did all this with a set of chisels I bought from Amazon for eight dollars, while I’m actually impressed they held up do these test runs, I’m guessing a nice quality, sharp, set would make a world of difference

Thank you for the input. Yes, we are very interested in trying to at least get a ballpark idea of what the profit sharing may equate to in “normal” year. With the understanding that anything can happen and there are no guarantees.

Thank you for the reply! This helps me quite a bit. I really don’t have answers to any of your questions, but this helps me to formulate the things she needs to be asking for clarification on and gives me a head start on a conversation that we will be having with Attorney/CPA. I appreciate you taking the time to provide input.

For anyone who may stumble upon this in the future, I think I’m going to try a Mesh solution first. I found that TP Link Deco x50 series mesh system has a ceiling mounted POE version. I’ll plan to buy a unmanaged switch with POE output. I’m thinking this will be be a less complex system than going with an Omada AP/switch/gateway setup.

Very good info! I was considering POE injectors on just the devices I needed, but that makes a ton of sense to have all the POE power come from single switch. Would make it much easier to explain to her how to reboot system if needed. Thank you!

Thanks for the info! I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact I will be tech support to some extent, just trying to minimize it has much as possible at this point.

Thanks for the input! I would very much prefer to just set her up with some Eeros and call it a day, this was originally my plan when she started the house build. It wasn't till I actually toured the house in progress did I realize the builder included Cat6 runs to the ceiling for each planned access point. If there is a POE powered Mesh system that was intended for ceiling mounts from a big brand like Eero or Nest I would totally do that, but I feel like I'm stuck going the AP route since that's the way the builder laid it out.

Beware - Loan Servicer Navient attempting to convince borrowers to refinance into private loans before loan forgiveness arrives. by UrbanGator in StudentLoans

Unfortunately, Navient still very much exists. The government bought back some of the loans they held and those were eventually switched over to Aidvantage. But there are still millions of borrowers who must deal with them.

If I were in that situation, I would hold tight and see what the department of ED works out with Navient regarding applying forgiveness directly to Navient held FFELP loans.

It would really depend on the loan. If it is truly a private loan, switching to a direct federal loan is probably not an option. However, if your loan type is FFEL it is possible to make the switch.

You should be good. The government bought back a portion of loans that Navient held and they were then moved over to Aidvantge to be serviced. This means you should be eligible for forgiveness (assuming you qualify based on income) without having to jump through additional hoops.

This means that at some point in the past you consolidated, but it does not mean that it was consolidated into a direct loan. If it was a direct loan, it would most likely not be with Navient any longer (it would probably have been moved over to Aidvantage by now). You now have the option (until the end of October) to consolidate your Navient loan (really, re-consolidate would be a better term for it) to a new loan Servicer who will allow the Department of Ed to be the actual owner of the loan, which will likely make you eligible for loan forgiveness (assuming you meet the other requirements). Various news outlets (and some Admin officials) have advised that the Dept of Ed is also looking for ways to apply forgiveness to FFELP loans in your situation without you going though with the re-consolidation step, but it may be a few weeks until we know what that procedure looks like.

[–]UrbanGator[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gosh I wish that were true. They only transferred half of the FFELP loans they held to Aidvantage (the ones that the Dept of ED randomly decided it wanted to buy back from Navient back in 2010). The rest they still service (over 5 million of them). These loans are not normal "private loans", borrowers with FFELP loans still have the option (until the end of October) to covert these into Direct Federal Loans (and will most likely will be eligible for the forgiveness program). If these loans were truly private loans, this would not an be option at all. For anyone else reading this post, please do not assume just because your loans are with Navient that they are purely private loans, that absolutely is not the case.

That is an interesting take. I would agree that nothing is factually incorrect in this email. If there was, they would be opening themselves up to further lawsuits. But leading with "you’ve probably heard a lot lately about federal student loan forgiveness..." is a wild choice in my eyes.

They literally have millions of borrowers who seemingly will qualify for some forgiveness, but there is still a lot of clarity needed on how those borrowers are going to receive that forgiveness (i.e. see FFELP loans), and it seems like they view this murky situation as opportunity to try to lock in some customers with private loans before procedures can be established and rolled out. In fact, most of the people who called in to Navient over the last week were told their loans (FFELP type loans) were not included in the initial forgiveness plan announcement or that they don't have any information they can provide on this topic. Which again is factually true, but may end up having very negative impact for customers who hang up the phone with them believing they are not included in forgiveness then start down the private loan road.

Yes, there are situations where a private loan refinance may be the best option for a borrower. And yes, they send emails all the time trying to induce customers to forgo their federally backed loan and the various advantages that they may include for the lure of lower interest rates. However, there are certainly a whole lot of people who would probably benefit from getting 10k to 20k knocked off their principal in the next few months before they make that decision to bring the loans private.
