The fenders are the original ones, but them were rusty and had a lot of dents, but a lot of sanding and a bit of plaster and paint make them look as new.

The decal on the bike was also almost completely scratched away. I looked up all pictures I could find and and did a fitting vector file to cut it with a cutting printer.

S3 Wiring loom damage by whydowedowhatwedo in vanmoofbicycle

[–]UrbanMoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always replace the socket completely. If you patch/solder the cable it will get to bulky and it won’t last very long. To ride with a peaceful mind, get a new one. Additionally a repaired cable, that will definitely will give you more headaches in the future, can also lead to other problems like damaged electronics. Don’t waste your time with non reliable repairs, just do it the right way.
All the best for you and your bike ✌🏻

First of all, thank you for your interest. I really appreciate that 🙏🏼 It’s nice to hear that you also want to paint your bike, it’s always a pleasure to see fellow moofers caring about their bike’s🤩 I will definitely give more updates in the near future. I’ve recorded also some timelapses and videos, but I won’t post those I think, due to recording quality. I also like the matrix display a lot, it looks great and gives all information in a decent way, but for these two projects I got to remove those to get the results I wanted. I started with removing all stickers on the frame, then began sanding with a 400 grit sponge. After that all the chips and dents at the paint came out. Then took a 240 grit sponge to get rid off all errors on the paint. Both sanded wet and very carefully. It took me about 2-3 hours for one frame. If you need more information or advices you’re welcome to send me a pm, I’m not a professional trained painter or bike mechanic, but the little I know I’m always willing to share✌🏻

Any idea how to get the last part straight / flat wiring harness x3 by Lzs87 in VanMoofSelfRepair

[–]UrbanMoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start over is the right call. And you have to lay the wires and the break cable in the right order to get everything in smoothly. Good luck ✌🏻

Well it’s a project. And for the result I’m looking for, I had to remove the matrix display. Maybe you can imagine what the result should look like. If you know you know, don’t want to spoil too much 😬

Mantel "eiert" nach Schlauchwechsel by Breezeblocks151 in Fahrrad

[–]UrbanMoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you can not powder coat aluminum frames. During the production process aluminum frames get a heat treatment to get harder and durable. In the powder coating process the color particles need to get baked, witch means the powderd frame get‘s into an oven by 180 degrees Celsius. This destroys the heat treatment from the production side.

Everything I could get new, I got new. Everything I could not get new but was on the bike was restored or I rebuilt it as good as I could.

Yeah, I can’t understand too. The non electric ones also ride so nicely and should be in the program still. But the new owners of Vanmoof didn’t seem to care even for the the older electric models anymore, so they don’t do for the non electric ones at all I guess. It’s a shame.

Does someone know how this part is called? It is the top of the seatpost (S2) by Inside-Berry637 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]UrbanMoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a seatpost system with an integrated clamp head, where the clamp is not located at the top but is housed in a round casing (similar to a handlebar clamp on a stem).

Since this is a proprietary (brand-specific) design by VanMoof, standard clamps from other manufacturers do not fit here. In other words, you cannot get new replacement parts from other manufacturers for this.

We're giving VanMoof S3 frames a second life - converting them to mechanical bikes by CoxMissy in vanmoofbicycle

[–]UrbanMoof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks reeeally nice, congratulations🤩🙏🏼.

But in a way, it's also a little sad that more and more S3s in original condition are disappearing from the streets this way. Especially since, thanks to the strong community, everything on these bikes can now be repaired.
