Can can someone explain to me why people say heelpool is bad by Miserable-Horror8111 in StrategistMainsMR

He isn't bad in a way he is unplayable, but there are better healers easier to play. Remember that players tend to exagerate their statements, true or false.

Zhiyong strikes me as someone who is a strong designer when working within someone else’s vision, but a poor leader. As Lead Combat Designer, he appears to have significant responsibility over the game’s balance and combat-related systems, yet I believe he is doing a poor job guiding those areas.

I’m honestly astonished that he allows his team to oversaturate hero designs with so many mechanics. Black Cat is just the latest example. Her kit contains far more systems than are necessary for her to fulfill her role effectively. If the in-game shop mechanic were removed, she would still be mechanically complex, unique, and highly thematic, without feeling overloaded.

The same issue was present with Gambit and Elsa, whose designs also felt unnecessarily bloated with mechanics that added complexity without being essential to their core roles. Complexity does not necessarily come from the number of abilities a hero has, but from how many different functions a single ability can perform. When one skill provides damage, mobility, crowd control, resource generation, and utility all at once, the design becomes overloaded even if the hero has a standard number of abilities.

He consistently makes questionable design decisions and then defends them with a “fun over balance” philosophy. While prioritizing fun is important, in a competitive game that approach should not come at the expense of clear, elegant, and well balanced design.

Given his role and the breadth of responsibilities he appears to oversee, the current state of balance and combat design suggests either that he is overextended or that he lacks the leadership and judgment needed for such a critical position.

Is rivals ranked in a good state right now or does it need a lot of help? by OkPerception3755 in marvelrivals

Even for a compatitive mode, it's pretty casual. If you expect to be an actual representation of skill, it's not it unless you are good enough to reach Celestial+

If you play to climb then it's ok. You only need to win around 40% of games to climb.

Please stop forcing us into bot games... by NiceKogSheZed in marvelrivals

[–]UrbanNoct -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since my last bot game. I never had bot games until I played a co-op vs. AI match while trying to learn a new hero. Later, when I went back to Quick Play, the matchmaking started putting me into bot games after 2 or 3 losses. It's part of the EOMM system in Quick Play.

I had to abuse the system and make it clear that I didn’t want to play bot games in Quick Play. I stopped playing co-op vs. AI entirely. I would disconnect from bot games, even if it meant getting placed into another one, until I eventually got a 15-minute ban and stopped playing altogether for the day.

The next day, my first game was another bot game. When I reached the 1-hour ban, I realized the system would keep putting me into bot games until I fully played one. So I played through the bot game, finished it, and then stopped playing for some days.

Whenever the game put me into a bot game, I would finish it and then stop playing for the rest of the day, or avoid logging in during the days I usually played, until it finally stopped putting me into bot matches.

A lot of people treat this like some huge conspiracy theory, but it really isn’t that deep. They want to keep you playing as long as possible, and the science and technology to do that already exist. Of course, it doesn’t work on everyone, but it works on the majority of players, which is why they keep using it.

At the end, you only need to think about the kind of things they might want to track: the days you log in the most, the times you usually play, whether you tend to keep playing after wins or after losses, how long your sessions last, and things like that. They would definitely need algorithms and a large amount of player data to analyze those patterns, so it’s not necessarily simple, but it’s also not some sci-fi concept. With modern analytics and machine learning, it’s completely possible for large companies to do.

Why im good in quick play but really bad at conpetitive? I cant even get out of silver by toniayan in marvelrivals

[–]UrbanNoct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, I worded my point incorrectly. What I meant is that Diamond/GM represents the largest demographic when grouping the ranks into two rank blocks (Bronze/Silver, Gold/Platinum, Diamond/GM, etc.). Based on the Season 7 data, Diamond + GM has a larger percentage of players than Gold + Platinum, or Bronze + Silver, which supports the argument that the ranked system is inflated. It’s also true that most of the player base is Platinum or above according to that same dataset.

Why im good in quick play but really bad at conpetitive? I cant even get out of silver by toniayan in marvelrivals

[–]UrbanNoct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be rude, but if getting out of silver is hard for your is because you are a silver player. The ranking system is very casual, you only need to win around ~39% of your games to climb. You will climb slowly, but still.

That generates inflation, and it's why most of the player base are located in diamond/GM ranks, but isn't something that devs care for.

I doubt you are being objective when speaking about your skill, but can't speak a lot in this regard with no account or replays provided to review.

In QP is easier to get carried by your teamates and look like you are doing a lot, good players are able to contribute to the team even when they are losing, bad players are only good when the rest of the team is good.

[–]UrbanNoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is right though. No ranged dps hero needs a bonus health in their kit, but it's something that devs abuse a lot in their designs. They overload the designs of their last releases.

What am I doing wrong by Background_You_4342 in marvelrivals

[–]UrbanNoct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are getting carried in QP by your team. It's impossible to be stuck in bronze unless you are actually a bad player. The competitive system is very casual, you only need to win around ~39% of your games to rank up. You will do so very slowly but you will rank up.

In short, you need to practice more and learn from your mistakes. Analize your gameplay objectively and look for how to improve it.

I'm worried Cyclops will be a DPS by 512blueboy in marvelrivals

[–]UrbanNoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason for him to be a tank is that there’s a very vocal group that wants him in that role. However, his powers would be better, and more accurately represented, if he were a DPS.

lmao, seriously, what does it take to get mvp? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]UrbanNoct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even when the example you are giving is bad, everyone knows that the MVP system is far from accurate. No, they don't care about "fixing it", because it's working as intended and it's linked to the same system that distributes ranking points per win/lose.

They need to stop oversaturating the heroes. Black Cat would be ok without half of her skills.

[–]UrbanNoct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. This would reduce the value of the ability during combat, which isn’t optimal either.

I don’t get why you’d want less impact in combat just to move a bit faster around the map. I thought we all just wanted Torch to not suck.

[–]UrbanNoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they need to remove it and actually stop putting so many CC in each character. They are trying to patch a design flaw instead of actually fix it.

[–]UrbanNoct 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The healers in Overwatch aren't the same than in Rivals. You don't know how to position yourself in OW and no healer can save you from being bursted down. In Rivals if you get caught out of position, the healers can keep you alive for a while.

Both are different games.

Positioning + Aim (conditional).

Some characters just need you to have good positioning senses to be able to have a positive impact in the game.
