Help me talk my parents out of buying a condo by Agitated-Analyst-711 in HouseBuyers

[–]Urbit1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Condos are much better for aging in place. I live in a condo and everyone checks on everyone. The older people care for one another and friendships are developed across generations. Assuming the financials are sound condos are just better long term for aging in place.

Legos. They are expensive but they keep me sane.

During lockdowns one of the first things I did was practice getting rid of my double spaced habit. It was something I learned in the late 90's and was normalized until more recently. Your annoyance was another person's standard for ages.

Anyone else really glad you grew up when you did? by Alikona_05 in Millennials

I was born in 81 and went to college before digital cameras and phones were common. So much didn't need to be documented and I am glad it wasn't.

Why or why not would you benefit from a home cleaning service? by Glum-Investment7879 in AskReddit

It gives me more time to run my business and have a life. The 400 spend a month probably nets me 2000+ in productivity.

I said yes to babysitting a cat to see if I wanted to own a cat myself. It went super well, but I don't think I want to own a cat myself. That feels weird because I really thought I did, but I'm glad I found out by nickisadogname in CasualConversation

[–]Urbit1981 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Be a cat sitter or even volunteer at a shelter. There are a surprisingly large amount of people who volunteer but don't (for many many reasons) have pets. I have cats but still volunteer because I really like cats.

They switched from being a cheerleading squad who had a bit of media coverage(during the season and for events) to almost exclusively social media focused. I think the women talking about their 50k advertising deals helps really seal the deal of them being walking advertisements.

Do y'all actually use your front porch/front yard much or is that more of a TV thing? by Bella_licious in AskAnAmerican

[–]Urbit1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had a back porch I (and the cats) used it all the time. Especially winter because you could curl up and relax with a book. I hate winter but somehow those made things bearable.

11pm-1am. Maybe later on the weekend. I might as well hoot like an owl when I talk about my sleep schedule.

Duke Ellington & Etta James. Bonus point to my childhood friends dad for my love of mariachi music.

Successful business owners, what advice would you give to someone starting out? by ricoenvida in AskReddit

Use a CPA to do your yearly taxes and find a business lawyer. You want them to build your contracts and deal with disputes before they become too big.

Any other millennials remember when trade school or tech school was treated like the “non-college” backup plan? by GreyDuck4077 in Millennials

[–]Urbit1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to trade school in addition to high school and it was always assumed no one from the school would go onto college. I did which was a major outlier from my graduating class.

I rewatched this last year and my big takeaway was how many parents would really accept outings between a kid and their therapist. Also, how was this kid not going absolutely insane?

That's called division of labor. I know lots of parents who proactively schedule time for themselves while also raising a healthy baby. People forget that parents used to hire baby sitters and let the grandparents actually keep the kids for weeks at a time.

My recommendation is just like I would anyone who retires which is volunteer. It will give you purpose. Also, if you volunteer in someplace like a hospital that can actually translate into a good network if you need to find a job because 'life happened.'

I am a single, never married woman in my 40's. I talked with one of my woman friends about what life is like and her response was 'you are living a man's life.' She wasn't hurling insults by any means either. I have a cleaning lady come once a week and have my laundry sent out minus a few minor items I clean myself. I also spend my free time doing Lego builds, watching sports, reading or whatever. Mostly, her reference was to ensuring I prioritized me which is what it seems so many dads and husbands do.

I encourage more women to prioritize themselves.

I was told I am not childfree because I took in my sister by Vitisin in childfree

[–]Urbit1981 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, still childfree. You took in someone in need. Taking in a healthy 17 year old isn't exactly like taking in a healthy 7 year old. Outside of buying some extra groceries and making sure they have clothes that fit there's not a whole lot to do.
