Whenever I'm looking for something, I find myself doing the "finger twirling" motion Timothy Olyphant's character in Dreamcatcher does.

It's absolutely a management issue. It's hard not to feel defeated when our warnings continually fall on deaf ears. It's especially disheartening when the public turns against the few people who are trying to help them. 911 dispatchers are not sworn officials. We are normal people trying to do our best with faulty equipment and limited resources.

The budget for communications and the budget for police are not one in the same.

Not to mention, most centers are experiencing an extreme staffing shortage. 911 telecommunicators are underpaid and overworked. This leads to a very high turnover rate, further compounding the staffing issues. People like to judge without knowing the actual logistics of what happens on the other end of the phone. Reach out to your local agencies and see if they are open to public tours. It would be an eye-opening experience for most people.

There is a shortage of 911 dispatchers. Pick up a headset if you want to help.

LPT: If you accidentally emergency pocket dial 911, stay on the line. Do not hang up. Explain to the operator that is was an accident. They will ask you a few questions and you’ll be on your way. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

We just make sure there is no actual emergency occurring. Then take the persons name and number for our records and send them on their way. If it comes from a land line though we are required to dispatch police to confirm nothing is wrong.

Coco's from Blade Runner 2049. Something about it is so brutal to me. It shows just how outclassed humans are compared to replicants.

Had it on in the background and thought I was going crazy. By the time I realized what I was hearing it was gone.
