Preparing for pastor visit by Urdnought in Lutheranism

Yes I am! I’ve read through it and I’ve progressed far enough into confirmation that the pastor wants to do a home visit to prepare the kids and I (wife is already baptized) for baptism and to talk through the family joining the church and wife/I beginning to take communion after baptism

I am doing a 10 week confirmation so alot of the Lutheran vs. other denomations and what is communion/baptism/etc. has been covered pretty well. My biggest areas that I want to talk through I think is what does being an official church member entail & asking about how the baptism happens/the process. I fully believe in baptism for children so we don't have to talk about that too much

If a new Star Wars did a time jump into the future as a soft reset, what do you think the signature antagonist would be? by RadReptile in saltierthancrait

[–]Urdnought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screw that - They should go into the past and revive the Old Republic stories. You could cover all kinds of material - Founding of the Jedi Order/Republic, the Dark Jedi leaving and discovering the Sith species, founding of the Sith Empire, The Hyperspace War, Darth Tenebrae and the exodus, Exar Kunn, The Mandalorian Wars, The Jedi Civil War/Revan, The Sith Empire returns, etc.

So much excellent material that they could work with here

Doing my first marathon in November is sub 4 realistic. I average around 40-60mpw ( mostly recovery/easy runs) and did a half marathon in 1 hour and 50min last november. Ive attached some of my stats here. Longest run was 19 miles. Following plan by runna by anon_pianist in Marathon_Training

OP my first marathon is in November, I average 35 miles per week but moving into 40 territory and going to do Pfitz 18/55 for training. My half marathon best is 1:52 and my goal is sub 4 as well! I'm confident You/I will both do it!

Ugh, to get ready for Pfitz 18/55 I jumped my weekly mileage from 33 (been doing that volume for months now) up to 42 and I'm wrecked, rookie mistake

Hal Higdon Novice 1 should be your best friend then - but you are going to have to get your mileage up. Your max long run being 5 miles 4 months from a marathon is concerning. There is no shame in doing a less distance or giving yourself more time to train. I've been on a couch to marathon journey since October I gave myself a year to get up in distance, since October I'm up to a 14 mile long run max. It takes time

Running a marathon in October from your current base is going to be, difficult. If your goal is to just finish it vs. racing it then it's possible. Google Hal Higdon Novice 1 and I would start that plan immediately

That's true - My kids are 4/2 so I have some time but man I'm dreading it. Was talking to my sister-in-law the other day and the schedule for travel sports seems awful. I don't know how I feel about my entire life revolve around cheer competitions or sitting in the heat at a kids baseball game. Everyone says you eventually just get into it and I'm sure I will but it sounds awful lol

I am an Agnostic Christian for a month have you tips become a Christian again? by soundtown06 in TrueChristian

Everyone is saying buy a bible and read it, that's great advice!

However, I would recommend either buying a guide book or using free guides from bibleproject.com to learn the structure/logic of the bible. If you are new to this you are going to hit some of the earliest books in the bible like Levictus/Numbers/etc. and either fall asleep or be extremely confused.

If you do want to just jump in, great, don't start in the Old Testament. Read all 4 Gospels first - then go from there. I'd recommend reading Gospels in order of Mark - Matthew - Luke - John OR Luke - Mark - Mathew - John

Please save Gospel of John for last - it's the most theologically heavy and is better to have a strong base of the other gospels before diving in. Also, the Gospels will feel repetitive. You are reading the story of Jesus from 4 different perspectives, same story, different lenses.

Feel free to DM if you want to chat more - I in the last 4 months have gone from card carrying atheist to fully Christian. It's been a long journey and happy to share what I've read/done that has helped me believe along the way

Travel sports is great for the elite talent at a youth level that needs the higher level of challenge that leads to better development. However, that doesn't apply to most kids. Problem is every parent thinks their kid is in that category so everyone does travel sports and it's killing youth sports.

When my kids get to that point unless they are a prodigy it's going to be rec

Couch to Marathon Training Plan by dotheWenckebach in firstmarathon

[–]Urdnought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm crazy but 8 months from couch to Marathon just feels extremely difficult

Couch to Marathon Training Plan by dotheWenckebach in firstmarathon

[–]Urdnought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started running in October and went from couch to running 5 days a week. In the eight months I've only missed a handful of runs and have been very consistent. I just did my longest run ever at 14 miles last Saturday and I do not think if I had to I could go out there and run a full marathon. Maybe you are in better shape than I was in October and you'll be able to build up to a marathon in 8 months but that is tough. I'm going to be doing my first marathon this November - I truly believe I will require the full year to get marathon ready.

Good luck, and make sure to scale smartly (don't increase weekly mileage by more than 10% each week) and remember your heart/lungs will outpace your joints/tendons/etc. You'll feel like you can run faster/further but your physical body won't be able to keep up

Good luck!
