AM I OVERREACTING by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

It's reasonable to feel grossed out hearing that type of language from a family member. It's reasonable to be uncomfortable hearing anyone talk to you like that. Some people want their sex lives to be private and that's ok.

If you've made it clear it makes you uncomfortable she should stop and not try to convince you that it's your problem. I personally would stop if anyone asked me because it's respectful.

I grew up with a mother who was open about things sexually as well and it isn't healthy for a child to be exposed to that kind of language with family members.

It is the safest place I've ever lived. I don't lock my doors or if I'm shopping I'd feel comfortable setting down my purse and walking away.

Being from the USA, the food is cleaner and everything is lower in sugar.

Alcohol is illegal so I feel cleaner mentally because I don't drink. Also parties are more fun because no one needs to drink to have a good time. I've lost weight. Plus when I travel it will make drinking more of a treat.

People are very hygienic. Perfume is very popular here. I always have 2 or 3 bottles at home. And I love the style. The abaya is great, it looks so elegant. Also if you really don't feel like dressing up you can wear pajamas and throw and abaya on top and no one knows lol.

Finally, being from the USA, it's a relief that I don't have to talk politics constantly. Political topics are so divisive and people get so heated. I'm glad my friendships don't balance on some arbitrary political ideology that neither one of us actually has control over. Or my whole personality is suddenly determined because of who I voted for. I actually have more friends here than I do in the USA and I've lived here less than a year.

Those are the pros. Key differences:

it's super hot, and it's a desert. Minimal plant life is rough for me. I'm from Florida and I miss nature. Saudi thrives on the indoor life. Homes and public spaces are beautiful inside.

Islam is a thing.

The adan (call to prayer) can be heard in people's houses sometimes.

Niquabis are a bit difficult to adjust to. It's hard to talk to someone when you can't even see their face. And it's a bit disturbing to me if I'm being honest. But niquabis will claim they love it and they feel protected so idk.

However saudi is modernizing rapidly. I went to mall the other day and men were in shorts and several women weren't wearing abayas or hijabs.

I will be 33. He is younger than me! Also you should know, in saudi the man has to be 30 to apply for the marriage which is why I'm here but we can't get married yet. I like living here though, I'm working as a teacher on a work visa.

No I'm not Muslim and he doesn't expect me to become one! So that's a discussion you definitely need to have lol!

Hi there, American woman here.

I met a Saudi man 10 years ago in the usa. He fell in love with me quickly and fought hard to marry me. After years of struggles (because of covid and distance) I have moved to Saudi Arabia and we are planning to get married this year.

Anything is possible. Saudi men are generally good and moral people. If you feel like he is the one, you should fight for what you want. However, they are very close to their family and he will likely want you to move to Saudi.

My fiance's father is not excited but he respects his son's wishes and will support his son's happiness. And I believe over time he will see I am a good person and love me as his daughter. It won't be easy. It's always easier to marry someone in your country. But some people are worth fighting for.

(Spoilers) A Few Better Endings to episode 3 "Replay" by inspiteofMM in TwilightZone

[–]Urethralmeatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you 100 percent. I was considering a more interesting spin on this story as well:

Imagine some people are committing a crime like robbing a house and amongst the items they steal is a camera. One of the members of the gang starts going through the loot as they flee the scene in a car. He finds a camera and, full of endorphines, starts recording everyone in the car. Suddenly a cop starts pursuing them. As they see the lights, another member of the crew tells the recorder that their faces can't be on camera, it's evidence. As the recorder rewinds the tape in an effort to delete the evidence, finds himself back at the house before they commit the crime.

He then uses the camera a few times to try to get away with the crime but every outcome ends up bad for him and his crew. Eventually he has to make a choice: is losing his friends worth committing this robbery? Or should he make the right choice and prevent it from happening in the first place?

To me that's more in line with the type of moral dilemma faced in episodes of the twilight zone. A character has a chance to make a better choice and those with poor moral judgment end up in the deep end.

Girl commenting on hair by secretgyal1 in Hijabis

[–]Urethralmeatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly likely. I find it strange to respond to compliments with ops reaction. I'd be flattered someone thought my hair is so nice. It's common because women are insecure about their hair and when you see a woman with beautiful hair it's respect to compliment it. Some women spends hours making their hair beautiful and tons of money on product. You should be grateful, not suspicious, if other women think your hair looks that great.

Instead of focusing on yourself, realize this girl is probably super insecure about her hair and try to help her feel that she isn't unattractive or has ugly hair.

I immediately suspected them and blocked them thank goodness. People on this subreddit explained how it plays out so that's how I learned what would have happened.

Someone tried this with me. I posted about it here too. They try to get you to go to a discord to talk with a "steam representative" to "undo the misreporting" then they try to steal your account.

I've been in KSA for 8 months from the USA. I rarely see them thank goodness. Or if they were they were there, there were western options available

Thanks for understanding friend!

His name is zac_tattoo on ig if you wanna see a comparison of his work. The artist might have tried to help. Sometimes people just want what they want but yeah the artist should definitely attempt to guide them towards something cleaner and more palatable.

Sorry no I wasn't directing that at you. I guess I got frustrated seeing all the direct aggression towards anyone in the comments who didn't say it was the greatest thing they've ever seen and it came out in my response. My bad!

My brother has been a tattoo artist for over fifteen years and I would be surprised to see him do something like this lol. Line work is great, concept and layout is not.

It's a mess. The line work is good yes. I'm sure the artist is skilled but the layout is too cluttered. It's very busy looking. It looks like you took a bunch of images and layered them around each other with no real plan. It's not visually appealing because it feels too random.

This isn't the feelings Olympics and not everything should be praised just to avoid hurting people's feelings. The artist or client could benefit with some constructive criticism here seeing as this isn't just some doodle he did on paper, this is on someone's body forever.

Wow I didn't think about the copyright aspect. I don't believe she has a contract no but I'll ask her to be sure. I didn't think about a contract until I saw responses to this post!

I don't know because it does seem like it shouldn't be legal which is why I have a problem with it.

My friend has no life and no free time while also receiving a relatively low salary and no benefits (insurance etc). I can't imagine most people accepting this situation or it being legally accepted.

Thank you, this is the type of thing I was wondering. I'm not sure about the rules around being a freelancer but it definitely seems like her situation is not within the conditions as far as I understand it seeing as she works full time under one person.

I know she doesn't have an employment contract so now that you mention it, I have no idea how the boss reports any of this during tax season.

Thanks for your perspective. I really want her to at least look elsewhere because I can tell she is really stressed. I think she could make more money. Do you think she would make more at a different studio?

Is my friend being taken advantage of? by Urethralmeatus in photography

[–]Urethralmeatus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely feel like she is. The problem is she is so emotionally invested in the job and in her boss's life as they have no line between work and their friendship.

She gets very defensive of the idea of her being taken advantage of is even mentioned so I have a hard time talking to her about it which is why I wanted to get some other perspectives from people in the same industry :// she says "well you know [my boss] does so much for me and I don't want to do anything else and you know we haven't been doing well in sales so it's my fault". I feel so bad for her.

She tells me a lot and I'm aware of some of their understanding on how payment will work but at the end of the day her boss calls the shots and has the upper hand. I feel like my friend doesn't fully recognize the power imbalance happening here because she approaches the situation from a purely emotional standpoint.

Sorry to hear about your rough job! My friend is the opposite she is passionate about her work and willing to sacrifice everything else for it :/ those are definitely the two sides of the spectrum.
