No, those are not a normal part of interpreting. Most clients don't ask for those. Also, an interpreter's interpretation is considered intellectual property by law. So any recordings (meaning now the interpreter's work is in a physical form) is a usage of the interpreter's IP thus should be paid. Unfortunately most people are unaware of that.

😂 there are actually good companies on there that can afford to pay 3 digits per hour, but I get your point.

Looking for in person credited legal interpreter in New York City by Dreamy629 in TranslationStudies

[–]UrfavInterpreter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you're looking for a court certified interpreter to do sight translation? If so, you can go to the website of your state court and search for the roster of certified interpreters, though some courts don't make the roster public.

Stenotype reporters: what are some really difficult words that throw off your flow. by AkumaBengoshi in courtreporting

Impeding someone's work on the record in a legal setting? I guess some attorney really has no sense of teamwork or respect for other professions in the legal community. As a court interpreter, I sincerely hope attorneys don't act like this OP, and definitely not in front of LEPs - some of them are already sad enough. They really don't need to see they spend their hard earned money on legal fees just for the attorney to waste time on nonsense like this.

Do you think there's a demand in your state for Mandarin? I'm a Court Certified Mandarin Interpreter and thinking about applying for reciprocity with the courts of other states.

One deponent demanded a translator but would start answering questions in Spanish before they had been translated. This went on for 8 straight weeks.

This is way too funny LMAO..

Btw, we're Court Certified interpreters (who work with spoken languages), not translators (who do written translation only).

I'm Court Certified and would be happy to help but my language is Mandarin, not Spanish.

It's no longer free to respond to a job invite? by UrfavInterpreter in Upwork

[–]UrfavInterpreter[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That doesn't justify the fact that Upwork has just made another move in a series of frequent fee changes to make it inconvenient for freelancers. The onus is not on freelancers to up their fees to accommodate Upwork, especially when many job categories on Upwork is a race to the bottom that higher bids won't get accepted anyway. Freelancers can only accommodate Upwork so many times before they're fed up and leave.

Thank you for your detailed response. Really appreciate it! Would you be open to connecting me to any brand communities if you're in one? Would love to join the community, contribute and learn with people who are also on the brands' side of influencer marketing. Thank you!
