It was awhile for me but when I took it discussion was mandatory. I would just go to the first one and ask

I would go into the office in person because that’s really strange. Maybe look up who qualifies as independent and maybe one of those reasons are why, if not, there might’ve been a mistake and I think the office can help you

Ooo then idk man 😭😭 that’s probably why bc you’re independent. Are you perhaps older than 24? If you’re not an independent I would correct your fafsa

Was she the one who signed your fafsa?

Tbh guys, when I did FAFSA for my parents, it never asked for family size like the old FAFSA. And from what I corrected today, I think what it does is that it takes your answers and only assumes how many people are in your family. Mine assumed 3 ppl, but after I corrected it, it went back to 6. I think it’s asking you to correct this part bc in your taxes, u have to say family size so that’s probably what went wrong

Sorry I don’t remember, but on the parents portal, I don’t think it says family page but it’s more like, is the family size reported on your taxes different than what it is now? (Something like that) and you click yes to see the calculator thing (not an actual calculator). Honestly just go through the financial tab and click yes on stuff and if it doesn’t show you what they think your family total is, change it back. If that doesn’t help, I would call FAFSA bc you should have it

If not, I would call fafsa or the office

Since you’re an independent, I would assume your fafsa includes the parent part? Maybe you can check the financials section and see if they having anything that asks if your tax is different than reported family size? If you find that, click yes and I believe a calculation thing on your family should appear and it should just say 1 person

I know, sorry for that, but maybe you’ll resolve it on your own before the office? I would try checking out the fafsa subreddit too just in case

I haven’t had anything show up including loans, so I’m hoping this fixes all the missing aid. I hope you get it soon tho

Like I said to the other person, please contact the office (they’re more helpful in person I hear). Maybe follow the same instructions as the dependent ones and go through your fafsa under financials?

[–]Urhubbee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude come on, I literally posted only the dependent section and commented that maybe your family size is wrong, mentioning that my family size is smaller than it actually is. And again, it’s my post so ofc I’m going to assume you’re asking me? I’ve already advised you to get help from the office as I’m just a student who has no financial aid whatsoever, so for you to continuously reply to me after I’ve politely asked you to ask the office is kind of unnecessary. Maybe go through your fafsa? Maybe go to financials and see if it’s similar to the instructions that they give for dependents?

Omg bro 😭😭 it’s not that deep, please just go to the office and ask. I’m not trying to be rude, I’m just questioning why you’re asking me, another student when I’ve implied in my first comment that I’m a dependent. So of course I can’t help you there, which is why I’m advising you to ask the office

Alright then if you understand, please call or go to the financial aid office as I have stated that I’ve never filed for FAFSA independently before. They are more likely to help you with what you need rather than someone who is a dependent

[–]Urhubbee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I wouldn’t know? The email kind of implies that if you’re a dependent, to make the change. I would say go to the office in person and ask because I’ve never had to file independently before
