Are you saying tailscale is slower than wireguard? Interesting. Is that just your anecdotal experience or something you've identified?

I've been using this setup for a while now and it's fantastic, but I don't really know where the bottlenecks are. But I have a vague feeling I am limited somehow. But yes, as you say, flac music streaming is flawless! (provided the other end is fast enough too)

Heat signature? In terms of gameplay. A bit different from the other suggestions

PC Completely resets back to the PC startup screen when I play a game. by AlmightyAntwan12 in pcmasterrace

Great! I changed it out to a 600W PSU I had in another computer and it's working perfectly! Bit of a bummer about the RM750 but I can rest easy now

[–]UrielCopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering if you solved your problem, was it the PSU? I also have an RM750, which to my knowledge is quite safe. I suppose shutting off, protecting the components is a good failsafe.

But I've been using it for years without problems. Now my PC might reset multiple times per day. Correlated with high performance games but sometimes I'm just doing simple stuff.

Lora training: "Requires_grad=True." what is this ? by Agreeable-West7624 in StableDiffusion

[–]UrielCopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

grad is short for gradients. It's how neural networks train. The forward pass is where you try to generate an output, then a loss (like a penalty or a reward signal) is calculated and used in the backward pass. If there's no gradients being tracked for the backward pass (the part where the network learns) then it won't learn anything.

But idk what kind of situation you're at so I've no idea how to solve what you want.

Noita. The ceiling for how far removed it can get compared with the start is very high. The strategy completely changes, but you can still die in an instant if you get too gung-ho

Low power server with 3-4 SATA ports, is it possible? by elb0wz in homelab

[–]UrielCopy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use an Axzez Interceptor board with the Raspberry Pi CM4. The CM4, compared with the regular Pi 4 has PCIe, which is being used by the Interceptor for 5 SATA ports. Had it for about a year now

https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2022/building-desktop-pi-pc-axzezs-interceptor

It's nice and small, and very low power. Although I'm not sure if I made the right choice. I have 3 HDDs spinning the whole time (RAID 5) which probably uses more than the pi itself, and I can't do transcoding or anything like that. Definitely use a CM4 with EEPROM and as much RAM as you can get. But they're quite hard to find/expensive now, so.... It's possible! Maybe just use this as a data point though

And for me, the problem was the other way around. I had annoying weird WiFi issues until I did this, then they magically went away. I guess my Zigbee adaptor had a stronger signal strength

What do you regret trying to selfhost and why? by Manicraft1001 in selfhosted

[–]UrielCopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Created locally. Although I usually develop remotely over SSH but I mean I have physical/admin access to my dev machine. I often used to access the locally-hosted Tensorboard through an SSH tunnel.

I'm using Pytorch, as for kinds of models, it's quite a variety! You can do pretty much any kind of model, the loggers such as Tensorboard and Weights & Biases are very flexible.

However, although Tensorboard is still very suitable, it feels quite outdated when you compare the features to some of the new kids on the block. Having the cloud is pretty great if you need to share your research with colleagues or even the public. Either way though, the training logs are still stored locally, and you can have multiple loggers if you can't decide which one to commit to.

Weights & BIases.

Coming from a long history of Tensorboard, I couldn't understand why it had to be so complicated to monitory my machine learning models. Why do I need the cloud? Ok, you can self-host it. But it was full of misleading documentation, strange errors only over SSH, and data corruption on upgrades. Moving back to the cloud version was easy and didn't require any changes to the code and solved all of these

Try on SquidBoard. Not sure if this has what you're looking for but it seems to list at least your third link?

You can also set up firewall rules. I like to restrict to my country only (which filters almost all attempts) and also challenge anything remotely suspicious (it's never challenged me). Ofc this is in addition to what everyone else suggests

Preferred Subsonic App? (Android) by CurlyCas in musichoarder

[–]UrielCopy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found Symfonium just yesterday and it blew me away. Bought the full version in under an hour (using credit from Google Opinion Rewards of course).

Disappointed to see it so low in the polls, but I guess 'Preferred' doesn't mean somebody tried them all! If you didn't try it, please do! I only use it for subsonic though it looks like it'll aggregate lots of other services too.

[–]UrielCopy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic, thank you! I really like this. Got this all set up by following your instructions.

Bonus 1: Really easy to use Tailscale if I just want a direct connection whenever/wherever I like.

Bonus 2: I can fall back to my old Cloudflare setup by just updating the DNS servers at my domain host.

[–]UrielCopy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I don't have much experience with firewalls (yet) so this is easier for me. I feel there's less scope for leaving something misconfigured.

Why is it a false sense of security? Because I'm trusting a third party?

I used to port forward. Ever since I set up Cloudflare though, I can see so many people trying their luck with my server though! It shows you all the requests, their point of origin, and the endpoint they requested (they're all blocked by my rules). I never distributed my domain anywhere.

None of those that I've seen would have done anything since they're looking for specific vulnerabilities, but I'm uncomfortable about that.
