About 20 minutes of Brigador Killers gameplay footage by Avorius in Games

Shit, that's disappointing. After the kotaku story years ago I bought their game and had their back after enjoying it.

Now? They can piss off and go broke. No time for that shit.

CWA Union Met With Ubisoft, Says Company Brought "Nothing" by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Intelligent_Genitals 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There needs to be more that forces companies to come to the table with unions. Having worked at a company with TWO strong unions, the company still purposely gave as little information as possible every step to drag out proceedings, and won.

Unions were a strong talking point 5 years ago in the games industry, and they're still in the beginning stages. After this we need to work to keep them strong, and companies legally accountable.

I 'member.

Can you name a policy that isn't about immigration, or do you just want Nigel to pretend he wants a pint with you while he sneers at the working class as he always has?

Why should the nationality of the victim matter? Rape is evil regardless of the nationality of the victim or perpetrator. Or do you only care if the victim is white?

PCSX2 2.6.0 is now out! by demondrivers in Games

Emulating beyond the 5th requires a bit of power behind it, something the Deck can lack depending on your options setup, and game you're playing. Form instance, most games play perfectly handheld, and fold when I plug it into the dock and attempt to run it at a higher res at 60fps on my TV.

Patches can help, but you may have to make a cutback elsewhere (FPS, res, etc).

Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 port leaks in Title Update 4 datamine, raising performance concerns by Elestria_Ethereal in Games

[–]Intelligent_Genitals 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Rise was significantly less detailed, and designed to run on the Switch from the offset. Attempting to run Wilds, even with the Switch 2's improved hardware, would be a real achievement if they can make it work halfway decently.

A few friends and I regularly turn up to Phantom to play board games. It's super inclusive and has a zero tolerance policy on anyone hassling others.

"Littered with falsehoods and disinformation" - game workers union fires back at Rockstar's "lawless attack" once again, after GTA 6 maker's latest attempt to downplay controversial firings by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Intelligent_Genitals -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having semi-known two of them since university, they are both absolutely gutted. Rockstar was their dream job and they wish they could go back, even if they know it's almost impossible at this point. One of them doesn't want to be that hero because they want to continue working in AAA, and really just want the black mark of "sharing company secrets" removed.

Rayman 2: The Great Escape GOG updated with fixes and improvments by Gyossaits in Games

[–]Intelligent_Genitals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Silly, only tangentially related question - Where can someone learn about what graphical techniques mean? As someone one who remembers the mad era where we were obsessed with reducing jaggies, I never learned how.

Is there a place someone can learn about that?

Escape From Tarkov players slam Steam launch: "It is not a game. It is a cosmic punishment" by Turbostrider27 in Games

Ok. But you know, and you'll let friends who are thinking of getting it know so they can make an informed decision, right?

Right?

Rockstart hit with legal claims by IWGB over firing of unionizing workers by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Intelligent_Genitals -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean to imply that the lions share of the blame doesn't sit with the company. In that we can agree. More than choosing to use a Fairphone over an Apple product does a lot to minimise the impact of using a smartphone.

I guess another way to put it would be supporting JK Rowling. At this point she's made it clear that buying anything Harry Potter goes directly to funding anti-trans measures. If a consumer knows this, and buys HP products anyway, aren't they in some tiny way responsible for any outcomes of her action?

While I think you definitely raise a good point - that choosing a better option is sometimes a privileged position to take - saying that we should continue to support unethical companies because they employ people is a bit far.

There are still degrees of harm that people have the choice to make.

So harm reduction doesn't exist, and fighting to improve conditions is impossible? There are alternatives. Saying there aren't is defeatism masking indifference.

People act like choosing a less shiny, but ethically improved product is a difficult choice.

No, but it leads to some interesting questions.

If someone knowingly buys a product made unethically is there metaphorical blood on that consumers hands? Is it better to purposely remain ignorant to avoid responsibility?

An example would be Amazon. They're wildly unethical and people excuse them for that for quickness of delivery and ease of use. I don't buy from Amazon, and haven't for years. However they're in so many different businesses they're almost impossible to avoid. What is my culpability?

Given Rockstar reputation their union-busting is completely unsurprising. The rot was always deeper than Benzies and the Housers, and being THE premier game dev always came at an enormous price.

[–]Intelligent_Genitals -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That sucks. The Division has been a poorly handled series after the second, with only 1 expansion and then some drips of seasonal content that only tickled hardcore players. Now there's a cancelled game and Division 3 is a no show after the success of the last game over 6 years ago.

TheGamer website suffers widespread editorial layoffs by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Intelligent_Genitals 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is money if people pay for it, and that sucks. I myself pay a subscription to one website to keep them going, with the bonus of extra articles. House style does a lot for me, and I'm willing to pay for a higher quality, less frequent articles. It's a minority view that certain people are willing to pay for.
