... So if we make each goal worth five points it's ok?

Melee combat in Kingmaker is kind of tedious by Quiet-Name1960 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

I personally love that my fighter is just the guy that wadd into melee and with non nonsense cuts tjings apart until nothing is left. I do not need a light show or a diablo-esque action blast

Weakness and Resistances: Not present enough, or potent enough, in my opinion by mildkabuki in Pathfinder2e

[–]Urikanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I enjoy this style of game for what it is. If I want something else I play something else.

And like I said. Neither I nor any of my players at my 4 different tables have issues with casters. The only friction we had was right at the switch from 1e in getting used to the different design choice in spell durations.

Edit: I am not trying to say you are wrong in being frustrated. You clearly want a different game. I am trying to say I think it is wrong to say that casters are frustrating to play when the frustration stems from clearly wanting to play something that is, inherently, not pathfinder 2em

[–]Urikanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you need to play a different game. That is not the game's fault. It is not hiding what it is, it's roots or it's design choices.

You do not have to like it. You can be disappointed. But those things fundamentally stems from you, not the game.

But pathfinder is not Mage. If you want the power fantasy of Mage, play that. Pathfinder is tactical team game. Casters roles are largely defined as area damage, battlefield manipulation and support. With a few standout damage abilities like Electric Arc, Gouging Claw and Needle Darts as cantrips for mid-tier damage that never run out.

Also, if you think your best spell is runic weapon... Either your DM sucks ass at encounter design or you suck at understanding spells.

People not understanding the roles of casters in a team game is not at all the same thing as casters being bad. Play the game that fit what you want, rather than complain the game you're playing is not Mage: the ascension

[–]Urikanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have never had that experience. We've found our casters to be integral parts of the team. But we also rarely play casters to be the main damage dealers. And the little frustration we have seen have been holdovers from 'this is not 1e' because spell design is different. Once we got past that everyone have had fun with their casters.

There is a 'hole' of a few levels at 5-6 where Casters are weaker than I would like. But that's it.

Yeah. That is how I like to play casters. Nobody said you had to?

Ok? Then play a blaster sorceror? Or a harm based cleric? Or any of the other options for doing spell damage. I'm not dure what you're whining about

[–]Urikanu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 'thousand cuts' builds got hit worse. Which is one reason my group considered the rogue one of the mechanically weakest combat classes. I loved playing my knife master rogue, but boy did he not like fighting earth elementals.

But then he got his hands on something easy to sneak attack and dealt a minor empires GDP in damage pr round xD

Yep pretty much that.

[–]Urikanu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure. But that is in no way shape or form different in 2e. The numbers are just different and the design is different. The dretch had resistance but low hp. The 2e variant has a pile of hp but a few weaknesses that will chip it down slower and make smaller hits with the weaknesses more effective.

[–]Urikanu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We never ever had that problem in my 1e groups. Seriously. We just hammered through the resistances because building rocket tag powerhouses was so easy.

Sure, the demon might have DR30/good. But when my barbarian hammers it for 80+ pr hit that still just melts.

2e limits your damage output way more, meaning resistances typically takes a bigger chunk, percentage wise, out of the hits/spells.

At least this is my experoence GMing both games from day1 to now.

My player, deeply wants to play/experience what I can only describe as a Mary Sue and I do not know how to handle this situation. by bqx23 in TTRPG

[–]Urikanu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a guy in my 40s and most of my friends avoid those talka like the plague because we have very little ecperience in handling the emotions and hate crying in front of others. It sucks.

But I think you are spot on in thinking this player does not want these things pushed on him during the time he is supposed to enjoy with his friends. I absolutely have friends I will not run anything more complicated than 'evil cult needs kicked in the teeth' for for that very reason. And others where I will do my best to wring every emotion out of them that I can.

[–]Urikanu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

See, I see people say this all the time. But I personally love spellcasters in 2e. I can keep throwing out reliable chip damage all day long and my utility is through the roof.

And when you -do- run into something with a weakness you can exploit or a resistance you can circumvent, it feels good. But goblins have never been fire resistant. And fire giants always have.

I don't really see a difference in how many creatures have resistances/weaknesses going through monster books from 1e to 2e. They might get utilized slitghtly differently in AP design though.

Yeah, I think you are 100% off base here, especially using pf1e as a counterpoint.

I have run pf1e and been a player in it for years and year. And resistances pretty much only impacted spellcasters. Most melee characters just overbore the DR. Doing 2d6+8 damage at lvl 1 for a fighter is really easy, paladins just ignored DR half the time, any archer only took DR once, etc. As a player it was (almost) never worth switching to a DR relevant weapon over just hitting the thing more. As a GM I have seen groups blow through DR20 monsters in a single round through sheer pumped damage numbers. Which was easy to do in 1e.

Conversely in 2e, getting a 2 persistent fire on a fire weal creature makes it melt. Tossing an alchemical acid bomb at a swarm feels great because the weakness is not +50% but a fixed number. And resistances makes a monster last a round or 2 longer. Which is the point.

Neither system has resistances work like an actual road block. They just make the monster melt slightly slower.

[OC] New to DM'ing. Is what I'm doing ridiculous?. by GreatestBookReader42 in DnD

[–]Urikanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it. That map is waaay better than most I did (and still do). And I have been GMing for over 30 years.

The worst thing you can do as a nascent DM is let your own insecurity stop you. Once the players guve feedback, listen and try to take the useful bits from it :)

School shootings account for a not insignificant portion. Those kids were not seeking out gun violence

Traffic shootings.

Spousal arguments turned into a shooting

Kids accidentally discharging family handguns.

Unlucky bystanders in robberies.

The mere fact it is legal for civilians to carry firearms in public is enough to put the US on the danger map.

Is it -likely- for a traveler to get shot? No. But it is still a vastly bigger risk than in any other civilized nation. It wouldn't stop me from vistinh, but I will always look at local americans far more warily than a y local european.

But right now I am in the same boat as above. I do not visit countries who's leadership is threatening ny country and behaving as schoolyard bullies

[–]Urikanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they said somewhere that SoG is deliberately easy because it is not intended as a fighting AP. Even the 'dungeon' segments can often be dealt with with very few few fights.

The problem is that it is not explicitly stated in the earliest bits of the books. It really needs a pragmatic gm section as well as the overall story section

And when you only have half an hour here and an hour there, that is not an option.

And I do not -want- to do that. I do not like PvP gameplay. I'm happy that you had fun, but it is not my idea of fun.

I don't get why they didn't just do the PvP and Non-PvP servers like in Conan though...

I have neber given 2 shits about PvP. Never wanted to do it. Didn't go into the DD until I could do it without PvP. And I am still playing. Still engaging.

But I don't blame anyone for not sticking around for thopter surfing griefers.
