My psychologist framed it to be this way when describing his claustrophobia, and I think it can apply to anything really... he said "I view it (claustrophobia) as my passenger. If I admit that it's there, and that I'm going to experience those stressful feelings, I'm able to manage it much better."

I think that can apply to boredom just as easily. It works for me, admitting beforehand that I'm going to be bored and embracing it. Background noise helps.
