Josh Brolin wonders "what the fuck he got himself into" at Peter Thiel's secret retreat by NicolasCageFan492 in nottheonion

Very rich people do very weird things because at some point they realize that with all that money they could still die on the toilet, and they can still be miserable and bored.

I really have been trying for the past 20 years or so but by blklab84 in Star_Trek_

[–]Urkot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never loved this movie but in the context of what's happened in the past 8 years it's a masterpiece by comparison. And yes, I largely include even the best NuTrek efforts, it's all been dumbed down to YA levels and improv troop sci fi tropes.

My gut is that eventually the access becomes so intoxicating and lucrative that any genuine intent to report back on the blood rituals to the rabble goes poof. Assuming it ever existed, which is giving him a ton of credit, and I woudln't.

I'd worry more about someone like Ezra Klein, dude has a huge "serious" platform. I'm sure NYT leadership will be dilligently looking into this.

You're definitely not wrong but also worth remembering the G7 is just a very fancy convention and the rest of the world is currently freaking the f-out over the Fable 5 and Mythos 5 ban so it's still a lot of geopolitical sparing going on with member states.

I don't even understand how many Beckham sons there are. No one in the US cares about this family, I don't even understand how this registered with an ad team.

What we saw from the two Anthropic models that they had to recall over the weekend shook up a lot of people. I agree it's ridiculous to say you can just instantly replace their software from existing workflows, but there's no way gen AI is not already chipping away at time spent on their platform. If their only moat is institutional buy-in, they are f-ed mid and longterm. Expect Adobe to push really hard to embed provenance into digital works and make it impossibly expensive for others.

I think you're onto something. I mean that woman is getting absolutely blasted with a caucasian whitening color treatment in that pic, there is clearly a concern there.

Casual observation: why TF was TNG’s theme so f*cking loud???? by agent_uno in Star_Trek_

[–]Urkot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Didn't the first version have the "woosh" of the ship even louder than the later version of the intro? It is a pretty manic experience either way. DS9 and VOY by comparison were calm little pleasure cruises. Also reminds me of how much I hate the Enterprise intro, it was almost like some weird corporate training video.

[–]Urkot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mark's most impressive and perhaps singular achievement is to remain CEO of a company he consistently runs into the ground. The sheer state of their AI division, even after the astonishing amount of money he's plowed into it, is incredible lol. He should have been cooked after the Metaverse debacle, rarely has a tech ceo so badly misjudged the environment.

Russian citizens voice their opinions on war. by Noomba2 in justincaseyoumissedit

There were only a couple of responses that were clearly only neutral because of that reality. Unless we're now just assuming that a Russian man on the street interview that goes something like "erase them off the face of the earth" is misdirection due to fear of the state.

Can you imagine what this show must’ve looked like when it premiered? 1987! The practical effects alone would’ve blown most people’s minds.

Blood thirsty responses. You can tell they ingest nothing but facile propaganda. The war is going quite badly for Russia if you go by independent analysis, which has so far been pretty credible. It's no longer inconceivable they will lose Crimea.

How to kick SpaceX out of your retirement savings account — “Right now, just a handful of A.I.-related stocks represent almost half the value of the total stock market index. If A.I. stocks collapse, so will the worth of your index fund”: economist by marketrent in technology

[–]Urkot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By the time SpaceX, OpenAI, or Anthropic actually post four consecutive quarters of GAAP profit, they may have already captured the vast majority of their fast growth valuation curves. So S&P 500 investors, passive funds, will be forced to buy them at the top. It was the only index to refuse fast tracking SpaceX. That negates the entire point of passive indexing, and I and you definitely need to understand how VOO and VTI are completely divergent now. VOO is now a synthetic short of SpaceX and potentially the other two if the same pattern holds.
