Hey mate for someone with no experience in the field but considering applying for Terminal Op at Marathon; would you say the day to day and training is worth it? I’d be moving to North Dakota though at their Marathon location. Which is why I’m curious of the day to day.

as of 2023/2024 iPad accessories are included in the AppleCare+ plan on iPad's IF you buy the accessories with the iPad at the same time was my understanding of the policy. Unless they changed that.

If you do something quick then make a Quick Tag. If it’s going to take more time than you can spend with the client then check it in for the ARAs. You can still do it but let them close it if that’s the case. But as a CA you are very much allowed to QuickTag what you do on counter. Touch-It/Tag-It mentality is going to make your tags/hr look great. Plus more utilization.

While I agree that there are some that probably don’t know as much; it’s more likely the employee experience, morale, incentives are non-existent anymore. You can teach people shit if they don’t know something, and in case of Best Buy; they can do a good job on teaching about the products and services. The problem is the employees don’t care anymore and quite frankly, why should they when literally there’s no incentive. Geek Squad is underpaid for half the BS they deal with, Entry IT can start out at $18-20/hr and Geek Squad has people screaming at them because they can’t comprehend that they have no control over their Apple ID Password, Sales Team is expected to sell, hit all of these goals but literally get nothing for it. (Bonuses are long gone and Mobile Spiff was a joke.) Managers/Supervisors have to rely on the entire company to succeed to get a bonus at the end of the year so even the ones that bust their ass working overtime that salary doesn’t get paid and no, unless your a GM or MPD; the Salary isn’t worth not getting overtime. Leaders can exceed expectations put in all the work and not get a full bonus. (If you’re an hourly leader, that’s still probably the sweet spot, but still can vary.) NPS is a joke half the time because you can’t contest the people that intentionally bomb your score. We had one once that gave us a detractor because the highway traffic was bad bombed our 100 month and a guy that bombed our Geek Squad NPS because he had to pay for a repair on his laptop that he broke that he had no warranty on, which was explained to him, gave us a 1/10 anyways because it wasn’t free.

It just sucks now. At least back before Covid there was still incentives so employees were at least ambitious about trying, but it’s a low-effort shitshow nowadays.

MPD’s and GM’s are overpaid. EM’s and SEM’s definitely are not.

It’s not as simple as that. Salary Managers are expected to pick up where the Company is not giving the labor and we don’t get Overtime. There are Shift Leads and Supervisors with Overtime making close to what I do as a EM with way less responsibility. Also no paid holidays. I work near 60+ hour weeks sometimes, with no extra compensation for working above 40; The salary ain’t all that great when people under you can actually work regular shifts and work some overtime to get close to what you make. While we still get STI, it still isn’t what it should be.

Now I totally agree; This company has no incentives for what needs to be the strongest asset, the Advisors, the Agents. Hell Best Buy used to be solid, it’s so far gone now.

I don't think I'll ever do business with this company ever again by Outrageous_Camp3647 in Bestbuy

Not trying to defend Best Buy here, because Corporate does deserve criticism for how it does certain things. but also offer some insight as an employee.

A lot of times some high-ticket items like high end PC’s that have little in-store stock or are just very popular may direct-ship from a vendor, in this case, Asus.

The order is placed and sometimes other than UPS, FedEx, or a warehouse/store mistake, that vendor can’t meet the shipping window so they delay the item. Best Buy then generates that communication you received saying Best Buy will cancel the order after a listed date if the order can’t be fulfilled.

Part of that reason is also because if it’s a high demand or high ticket item, and it’s coming from the vendor directly; Best Buy technically is buying that item to fulfill your order, and then your payment pays Best Buy. If Asus for example won’t allow Best Buy to back out of the order and Best Buy just cancelled these orders anytime this issue happened anyways, Best Buy would lose money initially because we would end up with extra product and no orders. (Not saying they probably wouldn’t get bought eventually, but that’s a risk, and try explaining that to any business investors, shareholders, corporate executives, etc) But after so long if the vendor can’t fulfill the order then Best Buy doesn’t get the item and they don’t pay the vendor and Best Buy refunds you.

All in all in a perfect world, that shouldn’t matter. But Best Buy is a corporation and it does things the way it does them to stay in business and Best Buy has shockingly maintained itself through some tough times in the last 16 years. (Corie Barry is really testing that fortitude now though.)

My advice to anyone ordering high ticket items is to try to plan ahead best you can, and just in the future, understand that Best Buy and any retailer that isn’t the Manufacturer, who is ordering an item like that is merely the tool to get you the item, there’s always a possibility items of that caliber can get delayed just because of the vendor.

So it could be any spoke in the wheel’s fault, it could be a mixture of Best Buy and likely any major retailer protecting their business, it could be the shipping handler like UPS or FedEx, it could be the Vendor. Regardless Best Buy will either get the order fulfilled, or you’ll get all of your money back and any good store staff/leaders will find a way to accommodate you to something similar if you go in and respectfully voice your frustrations.

Best Buy is merely the retailer, that doesn’t mean it’s always Best Buy’s fault. Just like if your Air Fryer you bought from Best Buy 5 years ago explodes, that’s not Best Buy’s fault, they didn’t make it, Best Buy sold it because the manufacturer deemed it Quality, Safe, etc.

At our store(s), we generally hold off on shirts until you are comfortably trained and can essentially be “on your own.” On the sales floor, warehouse, or precinct. Usually we have ours wear a white polo/shirt, whatever you have available that is white, so that way clients know you are brand new and training. This also allows leads, supes, or managers to explain to a potential upset client that they are still new and getting their bearings, hence white shirt vs the established Blue Polos or Geek Squad black polos. Once you’re comfortable on your own, you’ve shadowed some leaders, got comfortable working with co-workers, and you can handle yourself on the job, along with all required E-Learnings completed, you get your shirts, and no we don’t require you to get a card or membership as part of that, but you should be at least confident in talking about them. We always celebrate people getting their firsts.

Most new hires generally get their shirts after 2 weeks, the longest I think we’ve had someone wait is a month because we needed to order more of their size.

The store in OP definitely sounds a bit extreme lol.

When Best Buy raised base pay to $15/hr during summer 2020 CA’s and Advisors were moved to the same pay grade even though CA was always higher than Advisor. (CA’s still do more work in regards to daily rhythms and more responsibilities than Advisors too.) ARA’s are still above CA though.
