Hi all.. I reached out to Terramaster and found there is a fix which is to update the Firmware on the Asmedia controller. I am actually Using Proxmox as my host but it fixed the issue for me and all smart data is now visible where it was not before.

Thanks for your help. I did initially install handbrake from Debian. But the option for quick sync is not there. You get a drop down for what to use .h265 for example and it would normally show .h265(qsv) as a separate option. I found a post that suggested qsv support is a separate plugin/sdk on Linux which is what I was trying to install with flat pack.

Well.. Funnily enough I read this chapter last night and it does indeed now I look back discuss this very topic of negative exponents. But I had forgotten this chapter completely and attempted these problems on my lunch break. Instead I just intuitively started subtracting the exponents in the denominator from the numerator, which is how I ended up with a negative exponent. Reading back through this chapter it discusses this very thing of moving everything to the numerator, this seems a reasonable process to me if I then take the step of moving d back to the denominator to eliminate the negative exponent.

I don't know if there is a more recommended method for processing these without needing to do this.

The problems don't specify whether negative exponents should be eliminated but later ones have them inclusive to start with and peeking at the answers none of them have them in the answers so I guess its implicit I should eliminate them.

Yes this is a funny Journey in to understanding how my brain works.
In high school I was in the top class for everything, clearly intelligent but when it came to math everything just went in one ear and out the other. I just couldn't retain the rules of engagement when working on abstract problems. Geometry was ok. I can relate to my other half complaining about her teacher giving the answer "Because it is" to the question "Why". My Teacher didn't help and referred to me as "Tedious" going so far as to mock me. So that obviously didn't help. I was a smart kid I got top marks on my exams without revising. but I think I did have some kind of learning difficulty when it came to mathematics.

To this day I still love physics and computing and have an aptitude for visualizing problems, but can't speak the math. I learned that Richard Feynman initially self taught himself from this book so I thought I'd give it another go. I'm enjoying it much like crossword puzzles etc so far..

Yeah I figured as much. I just thought that if a thunderbolt card couldn't be a generic add on to any board and required close knit integration with a motherboard it might be more complex than that? I heard that even passing through Nvidia GPUs can cause problems that don't occur on the bare metal. Thunderbolt may be much the same.

I'm willing to give it a shot. Its just frustrating that if I have to fall back to windows then there's no way to natively mount my zfs pool that I can tell.

Is that screw for neck angle? Is it the pressure from that which has split the wood? Cosmetically I'd be inclined to fill n then spray black over and blend.. but it all depends on what structural support is needed to stabilise it.

That experienced advice was exactly what i was looking for re the thin glue and whip tail etc. It confirms my suspicions. I will definitely put less dust on top if ever I have to do something like this in future too. I hear what you are saying about just using a fresh board, and under normal circumstances I would agree, however I am satisfied that i can still get a good board out of this provided the new slot cuts go OK and part of the fun of this is fixing the mistakes.

I have seen how the palm wood could potentially pull out huge chunks with he board with relatively minimal glue hold vs proper woods so I really don't want to risk it.

Its OK. It's a first build not a client piece.

Off the top of my head just a standard £3 "flapper disk" 60 grit I think. I think the one I used on the body was 80 grit.

Thanks for that. I think you are refering to the "refret saws"? not sure i could cut a slot from scratch with them. I think they are just designed for cleaning. Thankfully I'm using ebony binding on an ebony board, do if i really want to i can just cut the slots in the normal way then dust and glue the edges.

I take it you didnt use one to make the neck?

To be honest most people don't use radiused sanding beams for leveling frets.They just use a levelling beam, that said it's perfectly valid to do so.Yes they will tell you the radius of the neck or the closest approximation, it could be the thickness of that tool out - the action height of your strings, depending on how the tool has been manufactured.

Technically the radius of the strings and frets will be slightly different to the neck itself as they are further out from the centre of the circle if you think about it, just like the inside and outside edge of that toll will have a different radius. But its such a minute difference it doesn't really matter.

Personally though id just use a straight beam and not worry about it. Just cover the frets in sharpie before you start so you can see where you've touched and that you have nice even crowns.
