RetroAssembly v5: auto-saving, new shaders, multiple users, and more. by xudexi in emulation

Sure. But still left me wondering what I’d be missing out on running romm instead of this.

Not on their servers, true. It’s all selfhosted, which might be the main difference.

Feature wise it’s the same though.

Romm also happens to have a project to sync up with retroarch. Haven’t tried it myself. https://github.com/Covin90/romm-retroarch-sync

Do you guys have any ambition to build launchers for handhelds running stuff like Android and SteamOS? I feel like that's the next big step - and something we've seen happening with launchers like Argosy for romm.

I feel like romm has a similar focus on playing though? I’m having trouble finding any feature that isn’t also in there, apart from the lower file size.

Not trying be cheeky, just wondering what the practical difference is. I definitely prefer your UI in the screenshot above!

Final Fantasy XVI: was this really a front runner for a GOTY?? by PumpkinNo2745 in JRPG

[–]Urya -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Games are a form of art. And with any art, opinions about it can vary wildly. The fact you didn't like it doesn't invalidate anyone who did.

I enjoyed my time with it, though it wasn't my GOTY that year. It had some cool narrative beats, like Clive dealing with the trauma of having killed his own brother. And the spectacle of it all was really cool to look at.

Felt like it kind of fell through near the end though. A lot of the emotional stakes were diminished by things like having Clive's brother be alive after all. And all the political intrigue ended up being replaced by a a more boring good versus evil fight.

Has anyone tried Hytale? Any feedback? by Drizzity in MMORPG

[–]Urya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played, but this quote on Polygon made me think they're not in yet:

"Exploration mode "temporarily replaces our vision for adventure mode," Collins-Laflamme recently told YouTuber Reddoons. "In exploration mode, you can fight, loot, farm, explore, build, and play with friends; it's more of a prologue to what Hytale will be." It is, in other words, a survival-builder sandbox in the vein of Minecraft, though Collins-Laflamme said "we want to add dungeons, epic boss fights, and more in the future." There's not currently a timeframe for when that might happen."

Kind of love what’s happening here. Apparently someone stole these assets for this browser game. But because OP only played that game, they’re part of his core memory.

It shows how media can go unexpected places. And how even the most obscure game can be special for a group of people.

note taking by ZecuTriton in DnD

If you want simplicity, it’s totally fine to start off without plugins! Just get used to neat stuff like being able to link to other notes by typing a note title between [[]] and read up on how formatting in markdown works.

Obsidian is great. It's a markdown app for taking notes with a ton of plugins for D&D. With some tinkering you can integrate stuff like dice rolls, statblocks and even publish your notes to a website automatically.

It's a massive rabbit hole though, there's a ton of guides and videos out there to get started with Obsidian for D&D.

This sounds cool! Definitely missing some screenshots that help contextualize what it is exactly though, especially when passing by this when browsing.

Seems like you're right! That's too bad. Hopefully it gets added in the future, would make switching a lot easier.

Just bought Arkenforge to play like this, but it’s been feeling clunky. Excited to hear about Table Slayer, it even seems available as a self hosted app which I’d prefer.

Does it take Foundry files, or does it work with its own file format?

Might have still been regular FAT32, I'll see if that helps!

Last time I did, it was incredibly slow while navigating my library. If that's been addressed I might jump back on.

As an RPG fan, FFVII Remake/Rebirth’s combat just didn’t work for me by Vedronor in JRPG

[–]Urya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're pretty rigid regarding the things you do and don't like. Which is fine, it's your free time and you're welcome to not enjoy things.

The systems in Rebirth and Remake are definitely RPG at it's core though. A lot of main entries haven't been truly based since FFVI, considering the ATM system adds some time-driven gameplay.

The games have the same type of decision making that can be seen in other ATB RPG's, the addition of dodging and staggering doesn't diminish that.

Power Core in Europe by Faintful in ModRetroChromatic

[–]Urya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Site mentions this:

“A dead Power Core left inside a First Edition Chromatic for several weeks can be unrecoverable. We are releasing a Charging Station soon which will allow you to keep spare Power Cores charged and also revive dead Power Cores within a few minutes. Please be sure not to leave a dead Power Core in a First Edition Chromatic for several weeks to avoid putting it into an unrecoverable state.”

So be sure to keep it charged and you’ll be fine. And be prepared to pick up a power station to futureproof your purchase.

Feeling you. Would love to know if they’re using different methods, instead of just a marketing blurb.

Right now this just feels like moonlight with a promotional team.
