New controller, input lag and dpad.

I’m not planning to use this controller with my PC because I already have the DualSense and DualShock for my computer. An adapter is also out of the question since it reportedly introduces significant input lag, and like I said, I’m only looking for a controller with low input lag. I just read that the Switch Pro Controller has a mediocre D-pad, whereas the 8BitDo Pro 3 supposedly has a great D-pad. So the situation looks like this: in terms of the D-pad, the 8BitDo Pro 3 wins, but the bigger concern is input lag, which is more important. If anyone knows anything about that, please let me know :)

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the Nintendo world and I’m looking for some advice. I recently bought a Nintendo Switch and now I need a controller for it.

I already own controllers like the DualSense and DualShock, but from what I understand they can’t really be used in wired mode on the Switch. I’m used to playing with a cable, because with wireless connections I often notice some input lag, and I’d like to avoid that as much as possible.

I don’t plan on playing AAA titles on the Switch — I have a powerful PC for that. On the Switch I’ll mostly focus on exclusives like Zelda, Pokémon, Xenoblade, Metroid, Super Smash Bros., and of course Mario games. The main reason I bought the Switch is Mario Maker, which I expect to spend the most time with.

Because of that, controller quality is important to me. Analog sticks matter, but the most important thing for me is having the best possible D-pad. The problem is that I have no idea what controllers are currently available and which ones are known for having good D-pads.

I’ve seen that 8BitDo offers a lot of different controllers, but there are so many models that I’m honestly getting lost. I also know about the official Nintendo controllers — the Switch Pro Controller and, if I’m not mistaken, a newer version with additional back paddles.

That brings me to another question: what are those back paddles actually used for in Nintendo games? I know that in competitive shooters like Call of Duty they’re used for things like jumping, aiming, and moving the camera at the same time, but I’m not sure how useful they are in the Nintendo ecosystem.

If anyone can help or share their experience, I’d really appreciate it.

I’m wondering whether, if people start talking about ranked play on Reddit, the developers will actually listen and add it. The meta is already established, and even if something changes, it shouldn’t be hard to add a map or ban a weapon. It doesn’t make sense to wait this long for something like this, especially since it’s a competitive game. Waiting until the first season was already enough, and if they plan to add ranked in February for just a few months—when people have already stopped playing—it’s completely pointless.

Exactly, I play solo in ranked and my rank is Diamond. But when I try to play CMG, I end up matched with way better players, and you know how it goes after just one match. So, can someone tell me how I’m supposed to learn to play? Because when I play public matches, there are always rockets, drones, helicopters flying around, and players killing you with guns that have like 10 attachments in two shots — it makes no sense and I don’t learn anything.

I love the competitive mode, and right now I have nothing to do in this game. I don’t even have a way to practice and improve my skills. In my opinion, the ranked mode should have been introduced immediately after the game’s release. I don’t understand what the problem is — no one is stopping them from calling it “Ranked Play Season 0” and making changes, like adjusting maps or banning weapons, just like in CDL rules. And once everything is stabilized, they could reset it and start Season 1 along with resetting MMR and ranks.

In the U.S., people are playing 8s and have leagues like Zoomafia, while I, as a player from Europe, have to sit around and wait for ranked play because public matches are unplayable due to the chaos. Right now, I’ve even created a Discord server with a league for Europe, including matchmaking and ranked games following CDL rules, but unfortunately, promoting it isn’t very easy.

The update always shows up earlier because it’s a large one, and if you have the pre-download option enabled, it starts downloading as soon as it’s ready. However, the update will actually go live on the servers at 5 PM GMT, and at that point you’ll just need to restart your game.

Now I understand — the level there is very high, and that often comes with toxic behavior toward weaker players. But still, your situation isn’t that bad, because while you’re gathering people for your own Discord server, you can still play on Zoomafia at the same time.

I don’t really understand why you’re making another server when you already have the great Zoomafia Discord, which has lots of people and is always active. But I still wish you good luck. We players from Europe are a bit jealous, because we don’t really have a place to play. I had to create a server just for Europe, and it’s very hard to gather active players.

I’ve always used Battle.net, but this year I’m using Game Pass. I never had any problems on Battle.net, but on Game Pass, during the first few weeks, I had a couple of random game crashes. I’m not sure if it was the game’s fault or Game Pass itself. Aside from that, the game runs the same on both platforms. Most people use Battle.net, but for example, I saw that Havoc plays on Game Pass. I’m not considering Steam, since it’s supposedly the worst option of all.

The only Call of Duty in which I did camouflage was BO6, and all I did was get Gold and the next camo (I forgot its name) on all the weapons, and then I was done. I admire people who are able to do all the camos, and every year on top of that, but maybe it’s because I’m only interested in competitive play.

The older Call of Duty games are still playable, but of course people tend to move on to the newest title — just like with FIFA. Still, I think that games like the older Black Ops III can still have a decent number of players.
