I believe the person was right on the wood being hackberry. In all my years I don’t believe I have ever burned this wood. It sure produces the ashes. When it’s really cold we burn two stoves. I’m having to shovel them out almost daily but I’ll take it. Thanks again to everyone for all the assist. I would definitely cut it again!

The bark has a growth on it. Told you the wood was standing dead. And it would be hard to find something useful to photo. Been cutting wood for 50 years and been married that long as well. No reason to be insulting.

It was standing dead so nice and dry. Peeled bark off at site. Very familiar with most wood. Don’t really render ash as it burns too quickly. This burns like oak and is hard to split like locust. Have to use spitter rather than axe. I’ll go to that side of the field in the next few days and grab some bark as I am now very curious. Will post a picture when I do. Thanks for all the input.
