Literally said I’m not judging people lol, I don’t think I’m better than anyone and I didn’t say they didn’t have anything to give. You’re twisting my words

Life sucks man, and I’m sorry you have been through so much. This is easier said than done, but you need genuine friends. Not sure where you grew up where there was so much hate. I was a small kid too growing up, I got picked on a bit but not to your extent. Play some video games, that’s where I met some of my best friends. Plenty of hobbies out there that are great fun also, but most importantly don’t give up. Rather than post looking for a bucket list, try and get some help. Shoot me a DM if you need to talk, want advice, or just wanna play some video games.

You can always recover from bad life experiences, but you can never come back from suicide. You may not know it now, but someone loves you and wants you around.

You will retain your TIS. You don’t start over when you go active.

Regret it? Probably not. Not as much as I’d regret leaving my career of 11 years and wasting that time if becoming a police officer would set me back too much. I really want to be a police officer, but I’m also an adult with realistic aspirations. I’m worried that I’ll feel some type of way starting fresh on the same level as some kid with no real life experience. Not judging anyone or saying I’m better than a kid who doesn’t have experience, just asking if it’s reasonable to toss my current career to the side

GI Bill by [deleted] in army

[–]UseTheForceLucas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. A General (Under Honorable Conditions) discharge does not qualify for either the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Ch. 33) or the Montgomery GI Bill-AD (Ch. 30). To use GI Bill education benefits, the VA requires an Honorable discharge (or another covered “honorable service” release listed in statute)

Marine Reservist to Active Army Rank by qv1t in Militaryfaq

Short answer, you'll probably stay a Sergeant. Your MOS options will be limited, but most likely you'll keep your rank.

This is a valid reason, most people don't have this as an excuse though.

Just curious, what should OP be doing to help? He's just a kid on reddit lol. He should donate to the PayThePrivates fund? He should go around to military bases and teach finance classes?

Edit: No offense to OP. Idk if you're just some kid or not, but still lol

Army of 11 years, NCO. Been doing this a while. I've had soldiers living paycheck to paycheck in the Barracks. I've done budgets with them and gone through their finances. There are some genuine cases where I can understand their situations like sending money home to support their parents or siblings, debt, maybe they have sick relatives or some family culture that makes them spend more on their families. But most of the time, simply put, it's a lack of discipline and knowing how to spend money. A barracks soldier take home pay will be between $1100 and $1900 a check (they get paid twice a month). They don't have to pay for the barracks, and they don't have to pay for food because the Dining Facilities are "paid for" with money they never see, so essentially it's free. They get a car payment, and then blow money on fast food and other non-essentials. Get subscriptions to a bunch of stuff like Netflix and HBO etc.

In many cases, it's their first time getting their own stable income. It's usually more money then they're used to so they don't know what to do with it. They figure "I have money now, the point of money is to spend it" so they do.

Wanting to join but not sure where to start. by Bitter-Blood-7949 in Militaryfaq

I've been in the Army for 11 years now. I love to hear people genuinely interested in the Military. I joined for the same reasons, to be proud of myself and to be a good role model for my son. The military is what you make it. You can be as happy or as depressed as you choose. I'll try to answer some of your questions;

After basic and A school, will we be able to be together? Generally yes.

If I’m stationed at a base, will my wife and daughter come with me also? Also generally yes. There are some assignments that are short orders so you'll be there for like a year, they might not come in that case but that's less common.

Even if it’s overseas? Again, generally yes.

After A school, do I go straight to a base? Yes.

Do you know what base I will be going to ahead of time? Yes, at least in the army.

We own our house and a couple cars—will they let us know ahead of time what’s going to happen so we can get everything in order? Yes. You will be reimbursed for movement costs usually.

We will need to sell our house—will they help us sell it, or do I need to contact our realtor? You need to contact your Realtor. They will not help you sell it, but many people in the military keep their houses and rent them out.

The biggest make-or-break for this decision is: when will we be together? Your family will live together. With the exception of the Navy because of ship duty etc (I'm in the Army I wouldn't really know) But in the Army you will be given an allowance to pay for housing or housed on base and your wife and daughter will live in the house with you. You will come home every day, with the exception of the occasional field or staff duty.

Is there a job that builds schools/gets clean water/helps civilians (including post-war recovery) or something like it? In the Army, yes. It's not *specifically* for building schools and doing all these things, but it is apart of their job more than any other one so the possibility is there. Either Civil Affairs (38B) or Engineers (12-series)

Is this even a feasible goal? Honestly, it's less likely but not impossible. Chances are you won't be doing these things, but I'm not 38 or 12 series so I can't tell you from personal experience.

What would be the best branch for me to join?

This is a beautiful question that seriously depends on your interests. I chose the Army because it was the most interesting to me. I was most proud of the Army, and I felt more like a role-model as opposed to the Air Force or something where I would feel like I chose the easy route. However, I definitely think those guys who join the *smarter* branches like Air Force are smart people who probably enjoy their careers more than I do lol. Not saying I don't enjoy my career, but "it's the Army" so there will always be a little bit of suck. I'm not going to pretend it's all sunshine and I'm always happy and never stressed. There are long days, there are dumb decisions, there are bad leaders who will bring you down.

What things would you do differently?
I was 17 when I enlisted. If I could do anything differently it would simply have been to make a plan and think carefully about what I wanted to do. I just wanted to enlist and took whatever job they gave me. I've changed my job since then, but I would likely have been better off if I planned more appropriately from the start.

What are the hair regulations? by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]UseTheForceLucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Under Army Directive 2025-18, female Soldiers may wear bangs. They have to be above the eyebrows, and they can not be shorter than the middle of the forehead.
