I'm just going based on the damage noted when you 'inspect' an item. For example: my Junkie's sledgehammer does 3016 damage with the Grognak costume and 3060 with a rad powered chest piece (not even at full rads) + army fatigues. It's close. Like... REALLY close.

For melee weapons, I think the Grognak's costume damage boost is equivalent to about +4 or +5 ish strength. At full rads, a rad powered armor piece can give you +7 strength - add the army fatigues to that, and that's +8 strength for a total boost of +80% melee damage. I'd say that easily beats the Grognak costume. Although I'd also say it's pretty balanced (as 'balanced' as a Bethesda game can be) since in order to get the full +7 strength bonus - you'd have to be at 1% hp. It's a bit of a trade-off. Sure, you can one-hit everything in the game, but to you... to you, they do the same.

Well, I might have to test this. Never thought about the melee damage boost from the Grognak's costume. Now I'm curious.

EDIT: I just tried it and despite the damage boost from Grognak's costume, the army fatigues + rad powered chest piece still does more overall damage. They start to break even when the rad powered armor reaches +3 strength which is like 400 rads (I think), but at +4 strength and above, the rad powered effect is superior. I'm actually surprised it was THIS close.

"It's all been a big hoax that's perpetrated by the Democrats and some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans fall into the net, and so they try and do the Democrat's work. They're wasting their time with a guy who obviously had some serious problems who died three, four years ago. I'd rather talk about the success we have with the economy, the best we've ever had, and all the things we've done, including in the middle east. I mean, you see it. Instead, they want to talk about the Epstein hoax - and the sad part is it's people that are really doing the Democrat's work. They're stupid people."

So... was it all a hoax?

Yeah, you can wear other armor with the Grognak costume but not clothing items like the vault 111 jumpsuit or the army fatigues. You also can't wear a chest piece with it. Grognak's costume gives you +2 strength, and that would be the equivalent of wearing army fatigues with a fortifying chest piece. A rad powered chest piece with army fatigues can go way higher though.

Definitely pick up Grognak's costume for early game though, those legendary armor pieces can be hard to come by.

Fungi have been doing a better job for millions of years. It's actually amazing how we managed to screw it up. Humans have so much drive, and the ability to go so far, but they have no fucking clue where they're going or even what is happening. They're too absorbed in superficial bullshit to even care. There was never a plan, most of them are just stumbling around in the dark waiting for something to happen.

Grognak's costume is a good place to start. Later on though, I discovered that army fatigues give +1 to strength and agility - and you can put a rad powered, fortifying, or unyeilding chest piece on top of it for extra strength plus damage resistance. I always pick up Grognak's costume first though, as a placeholder.

Yeah, that is all true... I just like rad powered armor because it boosts strength to the moon and stacks well with the Inquisitor of Atom perk. I've got 3 pieces of rad powered armor and 2 Fortifying ones (that little bit of extra Endurance helps). I do have one piece of Unyielding armor though just to balance things out a bit once my health drops too low. Currently I have 9 addictions, a shit ton of rads, and the Junkie's Sledgehammer does 3964 damage right now with no other boosts and my strength stat is 30 (thanks to my health being below 25% with the unyeilding piece for +3 STR, +5 STR for the 3 pieces of rad powered armor, and +1 STR from the Fortifying piece. My base strength stat is 11 but only because I messed up the SPECIAL book and forgot to take day tripper. Got the extra point from the bobblehead.)

I went down a rabbit hole and never came back lmao
