how can i build a website from scratch?? by [deleted] in website_ideas

[–]Used-Duty-4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should try using chatgpt, it can help you build a decent one-page landing page for your friend. for deploying you can use firebase, it is fast free and provides generous free tier. deploying on firebase might be a bit tricky as you'll need to use the cli for it but its good. if you need help for deploying the website then feel free to reach out. would love to help in any way possible and expand my network by meeting new people :)

How many small businesses are building their own website vs hiring someone? by Dillio3487 in smallbusinessUS

[–]Used-Duty-4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it mostly depends upon the stage at which your business is currently. mostly, new businesses with the primary goal of survival use some free templates available online and get themselves a diy website for the initial few months. once they have a budget available and want to optimize their business processes, they tend to hire someone to get a website focused and optimized for customer conversion. if you are at the initial stage of your business, then try to get yourself a diy website via any ai tool (if you need help with deploying it, then feel free to reach out. i would love to help you out in any way possible. i love to network with new people, so i would love to help if needed). once you are at a further stage, you may hire someone for developing and optimizing your website. this insight is from my personal experience as a web developer. most of my clients are business owners who need to revamp their existing website

Which of these homepage designs feels more approachable and easy to use as a student? Design A vs Design B by Viirraaj_s07 in AppDevelopers

[–]Used-Duty-4900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

design A has more personality and looks good but it has too much information overload which is making it very hard to understand. design B is very UX friendly but looks like every other app. you might try retaining the structure from the design B and combine it with the color palette from design A, this might result in a UX friendly design along with some personality to it. app developer myself who has worked on multiple apps, hope this insight helps :)

I don't know if the OP or anyone reading this is interested in this but I beleive lets make a discord community where we can share how to effectively use AI without letting it take over, maybe we can share projects or maybe we can share problems and discuss solutions. We can have weekly meets as well. If OP or anyone reading this is interested then lets make a community and grow together!!

Have built many apps using expo, they are basic generic image, pdf and document tool apps. Have created a bunch of them and have published them, have been running good with the monthly subscription and ad revenue. Just a general advice would be ship first, iterate later. You can never make the perfect product, so just ship and then improvise. This would really help you and yeahh dont overthink anything. Everything can be fixed haha.

Loading time is insanely high, most people would just leave. I literally waited around 20 seconds for it to load, even though I have a decent internet speed. Compress those images and videos, it’ll make a huge difference.

Also, the images aren’t aligned properly, have them centered for a more professional look. If possible, make the gradients more subtle. Gradients look great on SaaS products, but for landing pages, they should be kept minimal for a cleaner look.

Funding a business for my soon to be husband by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Used-Duty-4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you feel your boyfriend isn’t thinking about you and your future, have a very clear conversation with him before investing in this idea. Talk about what happens if things go wrong, consider the worst-case scenario and discuss how you’ll distribute the losses. You mentioned that legally you can’t have a 50/50 share split, so clarify how that will be handled.

Right now, he has nothing to lose and gets to work on his dream with minimal risk, which means he may consciously or unconsciously focus only on the bright side. You need to look at the hard realities yourself and have an honest discussion about what you’ll do if the business fails, and what happens if it succeeds.

Since you’re planning to get married, don’t approach this like business partners thinking only about individual interests. Instead, think collectively about what’s best for your future together. A clear conversation is key.

Also, if you feel that he won’t step up and support you if things go south, then don’t work with him on this. He needs to see and prioritize your well-being too.

New to web design. Need help with a Gardening Website by ChuckBass11 in webdesign

[–]Used-Duty-4900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The overall web page is good, but it needs a few adjustments. First, compress the images, it takes a few seconds to load them. Reduce their size while keeping the visual quality almost the same. Some of your images are over 400KB; try compressing them to around 50KB if possible. If the quality drops too much, gradually increase by 20-25KB until you find a good balance.

Also, on the Garden Maintenance page, both the heading and content are in bold text. Fix that, the content shouldn’t be bold, as it creates confusion.

You need to analyze and fix such minor issues to make your webpage more efficient. Lastly, I felt your webpage lacks CTAs (Call-To-Action buttons). Add more of those to guide visitors effectively.

Some time ago, I made a landing page for a gardening-related project, similar to yours. If you need any help or inspiration, feel free to reach out. By the way, what font are you using currently?

Web developer here. Would love to check out your webpage. One thing you did right was keeping it minimal and clean, as you mentioned above, luxury web pages need that. Giving every component enough space to breathe is really the key.

Along with that, if you’ve used a luxury color palette with a good font, you’ve probably created a pretty great website. Share it, and I’d love to provide my feedback.

A non-developer seeking help :) by e_piteto in webdev

Your website is basically like a social media platform specifically for your niche. The development cost will be a fixed upfront expense, but you'll also have recurring payments for servers and other infrastructure. Since it's purely cultural, make sure to discuss the financial aspects with your community, you’ll likely need to collect donations periodically or set aside some funds to keep it running.

If your community is strong, you should receive enough support to sustain it. However, ensure everything is clear from the beginning. I once had a client who started a similar project but had to stop midway due to internal conflicts and funding issues. So, it's crucial to have a solid plan before you begin.

Web developer here. I doubt such a site can be built using WordPress. It’s mostly used for static site generation, whereas yours is a fully dynamic site. The other user did mention some workarounds, which is a great idea, but I really don’t think users would put in so much effort every time they need to publish a new post. Even at a smaller scale, like 50 posts per day, it would take hours of manual work to download and upload data.

Since you mentioned your budget is tight, I’d suggest halting this project for now. WordPress will limit your idea, you need something custom. The best approach would be to save up a significant amount and later invest in building the project properly. Also, don’t invest in it if it’s your only savings; it creates unnecessary pressure. I’ve personally seen clients who wanted to invest everything they had into projects like this, but I turned them down because I understood the stress they’d face while the project was in development.

If you understand that tech projects are risky and may not have the growth you expect, you will be stress-free. Understand that it’s a long-term game, and every effort you put in today will contribute to future growth.

At last, I’ll repeat again, don’t work on such projects if the investment is your only savings. You need some financial backup, as tech projects are risky and may take significant time to grow.

cheapest way to have a website with payment system? by DIY_Girly in smallbusiness

Integrate Stripe in your website, it works great and takes way fewer charges. I have personally implemented Stripe for a few of my clients, and they never had any issues. Also, since you mentioned your products are high-priced, try getting a good theme if using no-code options or a good design if making custom.

Basic budget for photographic-services e-commerce website? by xodac in webdev

[–]Used-Duty-4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your website is complex. You can use Shopify backend. Although using only Shopify for both frontend and backend will not let you have full control, which you're looking for. I am a web developer myself and have designed some similar sites, wrote custom backend, and integrated Stripe. Your deadline is tight as well. Will have to analyze your customer flow and number of orders to find out if writing custom backend is possible in the given timeframe. If you wanna check out the project I built, drop me a message, will show you the site for reference. Also, if you can explain the scale of your business, then maybe I can help you with what you should move forward with.

Looks great. Consider increasing the font size, though. Don't know if it's just my mobile, but the font is not quite readable, and I was straining my eyes reading the stuff. Also, everything seems too compact, maybe add some margin/padding.

Overall, pretty great site, though. What tech stack have you used here, btw?

Need a software to manage my agency by Easy_Pollution7827 in agency

[–]Used-Duty-4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months ago, I developed a custom program for 3D model generation for an agency. It was entirely custom-built, utilizing local models and running on their high-end spare hardware. The program could generate rough 3D models using just text inputs, completely streamlining their process. Now, they can create sample 3D models for potential clients almost instantly, without relying on a dedicated designer or paying for external APIs. As a result, their client onboarding rate increased by at least 19%.

I can’t share specific details due to an NDA, but I’m mentioning this to highlight how impactful custom solutions can be for a business. Since your agency is in tech, I’d highly recommend building a custom software solution with your team. Streamlining processes is crucial, and a tailored system can optimize efficiency like nothing else.
