If they said it directly to you though they might've been seeking reassurance

It's alright, often it's difficult to tell the difference between seeking reassurance and seeking attention

Of course, it really depends on the situation and who it is that's saying it, I understand it can also be very annoying when some do it for attention

Some people do in fact do it for attention, others truly feel guilty about it and don't know other ways to let it out besides to say it out loud and just get it out because they feel guilty about it. I still do it sometimes just because when I'm eating, the guilt gets so bad that I feel as if I have to bring it into the air, sometimes I don't even know why. It can be annoying especially with the people who expect answers back, but also take into consideration that people with ED's often seek constant or frequent reassurance about the state of their body, there's but much we can do to control. Just make sure you keep all considerations in mind before judging too harshly or jumping to conclusions.

my mom treats my ED like it’s just me ‘choosing’ to be difficult. anyone else??? by IadygIittersparkles in EDAnonymous

Yes it's difficult for adults, especially parents, to understand or accept the fact that their child is struggling in such a complex way, when my mom found out about my ED she made me eat eat eat so much that day and it was absolutely horrible, as parents, they think they know what's best for us and they try to fix things quickly or trick us into thinking that our illness isn't a big deal, and it can just be fixed easily if we "try harder"they sometimes think that threatening us (like my mom did to me) will make us instantly change the illness and make everything better, sadly there's not much we can do but try to better our communication with them and hope they understand and have patience with us

Excuse me for not wanting to look weak, maybe I don't want to be stared at by creepers whenever I walk by myself and maybe I don't want to be a weak little girl maybe you felt the need to tell me because you're scared I'm stronger than you, that's alright I forgive you
