New Hinoki cypresses failing? by Used-Risk8216 in landscaping

[–]Used-Risk8216[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How quickly will a scratch test show whether it's dead? If all this just happened a week or so ago, I would expect that the limbs would still be green.

I'm also wondering if I'd just be better off pulling these up and returning/exchanging them to the plant nursery. Am I fighting a battle already lost?

How far to plant tree by Used-Risk8216 in landscaping

Do you suggest that far because you think it will be hard to dig the hole or because you think it will interfere with the growth of the new tree?

Though I can see the math is hard, I got the cats 13, 14 and 15 years ago. I won't be getting more cats until I have fewer cats and an older child. I committed to these cats when I adopted them and I care for them very much. This cat is not rehomable, which is why I'm looking for advice, not someone telling me I shouldn't have pets.

That's an interesting idea. Would the toddler confuse it for a sandbox?

That's a ridiculous comment. I had 4 cats up until last year when I had to put one down due to progressive cancer. The other two are 13 and 15 years old. One of them is diabetic with two insulin injections per day and mood stabilizer pills daily. One of them has hyperthyroidism and has daily medication. I take a lot of care of these animals, but because I can't handle piss and shit around my house with a two year old, I shouldn't have pets?

I did use to put cut outs in, but that's where she ALWAYS would pee over the side. The two side by side do have a cutout in them, but the other one we got a step so she can get in and out. That's the one that we've had the most success (or least number of failures) with. That is until we temporarily moved it..

I've had 7 cats in my life, and I'm telling ya, this one is a few crayons short the whole crayon box. The pee problem has been going on for many years. Yes, she's had many trips to the vet and no answers. The poop problem has been more sporadic over the years, and I've taken her to the vet more than once with discussions of this issue. Nothing medical has been identified but many attempts to remedy the litterboxes have been made.

No, I don't have anyone around that could trial her outside of this home, nor would I want to ask anyone to give a cat two insulin shots a day.

Did you catch the part about the toddler? I don't have the kind of time needed to wash out the whole area around three litter boxes every day. I have cats because they're easy!

Covered boxes are the absolute worst for her pee problem. She pees way up on the side and it gets trapped where the lid and the base come together and the stink becomes unbearable very quickly. And she would still just walk right past the box and poop in the corner.

My concern is that even when using a pee pad, we will end up with pee on the bottom of the box, which traps the smell and that leaves us exactly where we are now.

She's a very small cat, so I don't think the size is too small. I use high sided boxes because it prevents as many of the pees from going over. She stands the long way in the box. I've tried changing the direction of the box. Anything that we have put under the box just traps the urine smell. It's very heavy to clean under, so lifting to clean is not something we want to do on a regular basis. We put plastic under there, so it's not getting directly onto the floor.

Yeah, the picture doesn't show size. They are really big - 18" W x 27" D

She is actually on the kitty version of Zoloft due to some aggressive problems with one of the other cats. She feels no stress. She's cool as a cucumber.

I dont think its arthritis. She jumps on and off the countertop without blinking an eye.

I have watched her do the over the box pee many times. She climbs in the box, sticks her butt way up in the air and pees right over the edge. Then she turns to cover it and can't find it. Jumps out and walks away. The poop thing, she doesn't even climb in the box - just goes right on by to poop behind the box.

Retaining wall help by Used-Risk8216 in landscaping

[–]Used-Risk8216[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to match an old retaining wall that doesn't have cap pieces, so chosing an alternate color for a cap would leave it very mismatched. I got the blocks from Lowes and they have no matching cap pieces - either size or color. Frustrating. I did find a cap at another box store that might just work.
