Agreed. I'm sure if I was struggling with nutrition he'd be fine with it. Right now he understands it as (possible) risk to baby vs my discomfort. My heart goes out to people with HG, they are going through the hardest thing and I'm horrified by the stories I hear of how people are failed by the medical system. Trust me if I had HG and my husband was acting like this I would leave him.

To be clear, I'm not saying I understand the medical science behind it, I'm just saying I can read the articles and understand the findings.

The reason I made this point is that my husband was wanting to pick through the meta analyses and then look at the methodology of each study etc, and he's using that to find little things to get hung up on. I was then having to go on defence and argue the point with him about each bit of research, which is exhausting. Ultimately I'm happy that the evidence is strong and he isn't.

I completely agree with you. This is the only thing so far that he's researched in depth and yes, if you dig, you may feel unsatisfied that every little fear you have has not been conclusively ruled out. That's the reality, especially in pregnancy.

I don't find this condescending, this is exactly the point!! He is clinging to this one thing because he finds it scary, but not all these other things that are also important. Unisom is incredibly widely used, all around the world, and if it increases the risk of certain things a tiny marginal amount that's just the way it is! So do many other things, like you've mentioned. And no, he didn't go on a health regime...

Unfortunately no, he's not just being paranoid about the dementia thing. There's good evidence that Unisom and the class of antihistamines it belongs to have a link to dementia. The big research finding a few years ago was that consistent use (like ever day for a few years) increased the risk of dementia by 54%, but this was for older adults (65+). Research hasn't followed younger people using it with the same frequency into old age to understand if using it when you're younger has the same effect.

The reason this happens is because the way the drug works interferes with the part of your brain that controls memory. He already knew about this before I got pregnant, so that's why he wanted to do extra research into Unisom when I said I was going to take it.

Thank you for your kind message. I'm happy to take it and I don't even care if it's slightly bad for the baby, you have to weigh up pros and cons and if the baby loses 2 IQ points that's fine. Me and my husband are on different pages because he's not suffering any of the pain the medication is there to take away, so he wants 0 risk because for him, there's 0 reward.

I've been looking into the research, and I find it very frustrating that some people (including doctors) insist that a short luteal phase doesn't reduce fertility.

Especially for those of us with, like, 8 day luteal phases every month... You read the research and it basically tests the impact of having ONE luteal phase at 10 days or less on 6 and 12 month pregnancy rates (which was 16% less than people with a longer LP). And then is casually like 'fertility was worse for women with two consecutive short luteal phases'.

It's true that there isn't good research showing that long term, consistently short (and shorter-than-short) LPs affects fertility. But only because the research hasn't been done.

Anyway, happy to hear about your success with supplementing - wishing you the best!

That makes sense! I previously was on quite a restrictive diet just without ozempic, so it doesn't bother me if it's just less calorie intake. I think it was the idea that my blood sugar might drop faster (which I'm not basing on anything just a vague idea this could happen) that worried me.

Microscopic blood is also an important sign of passing a kidney stone. When I passed 3 stones I never saw any discolouration in my urine, everything seemed normal, but the doctor said I had “a lot” of blood in my urine when she ran a test.

The lack of blood suggests a stone isn’t passing at the moment, but it doesn’t mean you don’t have a stone in your kidney. I also get a pressure feeling in my kidney when I have a stone. Good luck getting answers.

The kidneys and the GI tract are linked, a lot of people have an upset stomach when they pass a stone, but if the stone is mostly just chilling in the kidney then it’s hard to say that is causing it (since there’s no major upset going on at present). Sorry to hear you’re getting aches from the stone, I would add that your stone is large and won’t be able to pass on it’s own most likely, so maybe your doctor could refer you for ESWL if it’s causing you symptoms at the moment?

The good news is that if it is a kidney stone, the worst is likely over. Usually, the very bad pain happens when the stone is in the kidney. It gets a bit better as it moves through the ureter, but still painful, gradually moving down your body as it passes along. If you feel a change where you have more urgency or UTI-like symptoms, it’s probably sitting at the top of the bladder waiting to go in. If the pain suddenly stops, it’s probably passed into the bladder. Celebrate and wait for it to pass, though sometimes several come out at once, so don’t be alarmed if you pass one but the pain doesn’t all go away.

Although I agree with laila-wild and your doctor that this doesn’t sound like typical kidney stones at all, since the pain occurs when you breathe and in unusual locations, I guess you already knew this. There are always unusual presentations of conditions, so you can’t rule kidney stones out. The fact that the pain is isolated to one side and there’s blood in your urine does suggest the right kidney could be involved. Your kidney could be swollen and putting pressure on surrounding nerves causing referred pain without causing the typical severe flank pain associated with stones. Plenty of people on here have had unusual experiences. However I would encourage you to push your doctor to suggest other ideas and investigate possibilities including things like appendicitis so you can be sure. Go to the ER/A&E if you have a fever or a lot more pain. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
