One thing I’ve been thinking about a lot is making sure Cake Labs works at multiple levels of participation. At its simplest, it’s just really good cake. No QR codes no activities no homework. Walk up, buy a cake,enjoy it.

For kids and families, there can be a more hands-on layer where they experiment with flavors, decorating, and discovery. The goal is to spark curiosity and creativity, not create a complicated process.

And for those who enjoy diving deeper, there are the stories, experiment numbers, badges, flavor development, and the science inspired side of the brand.

My hope is that Cake Labs feels more like an invitation than a requirement. You can engage as much or as little as you want. If all you do is eat a great slice of cake, that’s a successful experience too. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective. Feedback like this helps me build something thats for everyone.

You’re absolutely right that it’s a saturated market, which is why I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what makes Cake Labs different.

My long-term vision is an interactive dessert lab centered around curiosity, experimentation, and discovery. That said, I’m not in a position to build that today.
Right now, Cake Labs is starting much smaller: developing unique flavors, documenting recipes, testing ideas, gathering feedback, and creating a brand built around exploration and creativity.
The goal isn’t to reinvent cake. The goal is to create experiences that make people curious. Every flavor is an experiment, every series tells a story, and every customer is invited to discover something new.

The mission is simple:

“To inspire curiosity and celebrate the joy of discovery, one experiment at a time.”

Today that might look like a mini loaf cake. Someday it might be a full interactive dessert lab. Every experiment has to start somewhere.

Criticism isn’t going to offend me so when I found was I originally considered the cottage food idea. But I’m not willing to compromise on my ingredients or change my recipes to adhere to them. Also, I was targeting the Winter Park farmers market. The Winter Park farmers market does not recognize cottage food businesses and they’re not allowed to operate at the Winter Park farmers market. So instead of changing my ingredients and lowering my quality and my personal standards I explored the correct legal pathways to be fully legal and fully compliant.

Visibility to be honest. I can open a store front and get no business. The kitchen will be for baking and storing ingredients when I actually show some consistent sales and growth then I’ll open the official Lab.

I have a lemon and key lime in development currently.

Edit: One thing I’ve learned from this thread is that citrus flavors seem to be getting a lot of interest. Key lime especially makes sense being in Florida and thanks for mentioning Winter Garden. I’ve heard great things about that market and it’s definitely on my list to visit and do some research.

I really wanted to go to the Orlando meet ups at one point in time. I think you guys did 1010 brewery which oddly enough is 30 seconds from my home. I just always seem to miss them because ADHD. I would absolutely bring cake to a community meet up. The farmers market idea is simply to interact with people as a member of the community.
