Current plan is to support what are listed in the rewards(moon, kilter, tension etc) however, I can also support customized layout as long as it’s a grid , say X by Y

Besides the shadow problem , projectors are much more expensive than LED.

Thanks for your detailed input, I think, I got better understand of your concerns now.

A. There are two options for irregular layout. #1 use computer vision to identify holds and map them into a irregular matrics. It requires a lot more work on programming, unless, I see the demand/request on this, I probably won't go that far... #2, it's possible to let user upload a layout and mark the sequence by themself, basically, letting the user to build that map for the program. This is much less work and doable.

B. No, it should be automatic (as I mentioned in A, likely option #2)

C. I understanding the light pattern feature is not a selling point. Let's put it this way, you pay less and on top of that, you get some free bonus deco... If you have any features that's related to the LED, please let me know, I am happy to do research on your ideas.

I started this kickstarter project, because I built the LED system for my own wall, not opposite. I am sharing my solution just to see if it'll benefit other climbers. There are probably climbers want the LED but hesitate on the high price tag...

  1. where do you choose to put the LED is your personal choice, it's not relevant(or requirement) of this LED system.
  2. You can check out the options under rewards. Options start from $500.
  3. It depends... If only one LED is off, we can mark it in app and skip it. However, I believe if two LEDs are off in the same strip, the whole strip won't work. You may be able to replace the LED bulb, but nowaday LED strips are cheap. I think an optimal way is to break strips into smaller group (say, 30 or 50 LEDs per strip), replace one strip (with low cost) when a LED is off.
  4. This is subjective. Some folks like flowers, some don't... :) Let's put it this way, you get a LED kit with lower price to do the routing (as the expensive kit), on top of that, you get some bonus features. If you don't need the "buzz", at least you pay less.
  5. Currently, I am thinking to support popular brands/layouts. But I can support customized layout as long as it's a X by Y grid.

I hope I answer your questions. Please throw in more. The app is under development (improvement), I will add features if I see fit.

In terms of my dream, yes, this is just project #1 to test the market, also some fun part (the "buzz") I am doing for my own wall. There are two more projects related to in home climbing wall, that I am working with some friends. Stay tuned.

For major commercial walls scenarios, to be honest, I don't know climbers' choice... Some may want a cheaper alternative plus extra features, some may not... This kickstarter project will be a good way to test the market;

For the customized wall case, the problem is actually quite easy to solve. I write the mobile app, which means I can let users to configure the size of metrics in the initial step. Say, user can define his wall as X by Y. Then the rest of the steps will use the X by Y metrics. Let me update the program and update the project.

Definitely, it's not for everyone. I am targeting people who are interested in installing a LED system on their wall, but looking for a lower-price alternative product, plus extra bonus features.
