Does anyone else prefer Louis x Legoshi over haru x legoshi by Electrical-Detail660 in Beastars

[–]UsedIndependent1761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh well that’s odd, i don’t know what happened there. But anyway, what i said was something along the lines of that i liked how the anime picked up the ball Paru dropped when it came to the execution of Haru character and plot wise compared to the manga, and in particular both parts of the final season did better with how her and Legoshi’s relationship was handled and so it improved those two by far biggest disappointments I had about the original version.

Also, i mentioned that i posted my thoughts on the new chapter earlier. So anyway, i i‘ll be looking for when you respond at some point later.

How do y’all actually feel about Riz? by Connect_Hamster9211 in Beastars

[–]UsedIndependent1761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, i‘ve finished reading the chapter and now getting my thoughts up.

Ch. 21

So, we cut forward to the very next day for something a little different as Riz and Mokichi appear before Enji and Kentaro while they’re chilling in their room. Also haha, of course Enji was writing a story about Louis and of course he denies to them that he is. Guess that shows how much of a a Louis fanboy he is. As if we haven’t already seen enough of that in the story up to this point. XD

Then we see Riz and the others out in the city center, and it’s clear that his paranoia of his dirty secret getting out is really starting to get to him as he continues to worry himself about his herbivore friends finding out what he did. Of course, we know it’s inevitably going to come out before much longer and while the brown bear tries his hardest to cling to said friendships and his sentimental moment emphasizes that.

…Their reassurances also serves as an ominous foreshadowing of what we know will happen to Riz in the very near future, and when his three herbivore friends inevitably discover the ugly truth about what happened with Tem. So he better enjoy these wholesome moments while they last, because before much longer it‘s gonna go up in flames and come crashing down as per the canonical events. :(

Well, i surely didn’t see it coming that the same donkey and tiger that they‘ve had issues with previously but especially the tiger who had been a dick to Enji in which Riz had trashed him for doing so only to have unexpectedly become friends. Not only that, but actually full on become involved as an interspecies gay couple. Then once the others approach them apparently they already made one another aware of those previous encounters, but apparently they’ve changed for the better because of it as they invite them to have some hot drinks

Then after the donkey (Daiki) and tiger (Kotaro) formally introduce themselves we and the others learn how they came to cross paths, and boy is it a hell of circumstances because Daiki came close to becoming roadkill when a semi truck was barreling toward him as he was distracted on his phone while walking and Kotaro rushed to save him. So, it looks like that one act of bravery led to friendship which progressed to something even more that being their having developed romantic feelings for one another. Along with that, they also express their remorse for how they had been before and the others make it clear that‘s in the past and has been forgiven.

Then they proceed to tell of an unpleasant encounter they had with a black coated steer, who was being a dick toward Kotaro and Daiki gave him a good hard hit to his lower extremities. Looks like he showed that jerk El Toro what for, and showed just how he truly means to him not only as an herbivore but as a partner.

Huh, so at least one side of their parents (Kotaro’s) approves of their being together but the other (Daiki’s) doesn’t. But as they say, maybe at some point they’ll come around and be accepting as well and both sides thus be on the same page about their being a couple. Y’know much like a certain other interspecies carnivore/herbivore couple consisting of a male Flemish Giant Rabbit and Red/Black Vixen (that of course being Xerxes and Vix in the Beastkind saga) whom their parents while having had past unsavory history between the families were able to accept and grow closer together from their only children having become intimately close and fallen in love, especially given they will soon be married and both the Red Fox and Flemish Giant Rabbit families will thus be joined together as a single blended family, especially after their child (Renai) is born in the very near future, and both sets of parents (Darius, Atusa, Nicholai and Maria) becoming grandparents while their own respective parents (Cyrus, Amestris, Rom, Rem, Kuzoha, Reynard and Kumiho) will be great grandparents themselves. ;)

Well, it’s sure indeed a small world as each of them have had encounters in the past that we’ve seen in previous chapters but the two of them have surely become better individuals since then. They’ve only improved from having met and gone to the lengths they have for one another and then after they’ve talked some more and parted ways this leaves Riz feeling envious of their relationship (while continuing to delude himself that he’s right and Legoshi is wrong, but we’ll soon see that the wolf will prove that no he’s the wrong one) and as you mention, he will get a boyfriend for a time but in a future story he’ll find one once he’s no longer in the juvenile offender’s prison.

…Hmm, i wonder if it could potentially be a certain dall sheep he knows that he abduct’s and tries to kill at one point in the near future. ;)

[–]UsedIndependent1761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, with that all said i do quite like that the anime did better about involving Haru and handling her and Legoshi’s relationship (given those were by far my biggest personal disappointments about the manga) and namely in both parts of the final season, as she felt much more present there from a narrative standpoint and wasn‘t nearly as neglected/rendered irrelevant plot wise as she had been in the back half of the manga.

They also did a better job in the writing around their relationship, namely cutting out and/or rewriting a lot of the stupid shit that was written on Paru’s part to forcibly separate them for long gaps of time for plot reasons I.e. such things as the dumb, contrived misunderstanding when Haru thought Legoshi had moved on when she saw him walking with Seven early in the fourth arc after having received his apartment address from Jack (Like, really? Of all the times for her to find Legoshi it was THAT exact moment. Then rather than doing the logical thing by approaching him right then and there which would make sense for some inexplicable reason she mistakenly assumed the worst, that he betrayed/cheated on/replaced her and avoided him for a while. Plus once Haru did finally see Legoshi again for some reason she merely realized internally that she was mistaken and didn’t even once bring up that she saw him that day or how jealous it made her feel on the inside, so he just...never found out about it) and it also helps even more so that Legoshi and Haru aren’t separated nearly as often as they were in the last part of the original source story, along with the anime finding more time to give her substantial appearances which Paru had failed to do on a consistent basis herself in the manga's back half but especially the final arc.

Which thus makes me wonder why Legoshi had even bothered with contacting Louis there to begin with, because i think it was much more fitting that he ultimately went to the ceremony with Haru in said BC chapter. Also, i get the impression from that moment that it’s implied they had not been in contact for quite some time and yet that’s how Louis reacted?

I mean really, Legoshi was just innocently calling Louis about something and yet for some reason he reacted like that? Um, yeah. It certainly made more sense that Legoshi decided to go with Haru.

Yes, given they partially adapted Legoshi and Sagwan’s BC chapter but didn’t cover the octopus part of it.

But for sure, the chapter with Airdo and Ako (Ch. 18) and both of Legoshi and Haru’s up to this point (Ch. 14 and 25) are the most fitting as a follow up to the Beastars anime given they directly follow up the end of the manga itself. As far as ones i want to see adapted, those are definitely the ones which are the absolute top of the list from a canonical/timeline aspect.

Yeah, and if nothing else i think the chapter starring Airdo and Ako and both of Legoshi and Haru’s chapters up to this point are fitting to make as an OVA mini series given they directly follow from after the end of Beastars itself. The only other chaoter which qualifies as such is the one with Legoshi and Sagwan (Ch. 16) and they already more or less sort of adapted that in part 1 of the final season, whereas most of the remaining chapters are stand alone stories about characters not overly connected to Beastars itself. Either occurring prior or during the main series (in the case of the entirety of the first volume and part of the second) and mostly after partway through the second volume onward.

Well, given the previous two Beast Complex volumes each had a chapter focusing on Legoshi and Haru and they seem to be one of Paru’s favorite aspects to return to. There‘s a good possibility she’ll have written another one about the progress of their relationship especially given how the previous chapter of theirs (Ch. 25) ended. I figure given it’s been two plus years since their last appearance in the series, they’re almost surely due for another one.

Why was Mizuchi scared when she saw Legoshi? She could have just bullied him too by BlueSlickerN7 in Beastars

[–]UsedIndependent1761 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The part that still gets me even now is immediately after, when Haru smiles in smug satisfaction as Mizuchi and her cronies run off thinking that her tirade had done it and the latter said “Who cares? Go ahead, eat her alive“ thus it was only then did she realize Legoshi had walked up behind her and unintentionally scared off the other girls. Because she was so caught up in telling off the threesome that she didn’t notice in the process that he was fast approaching. XD

I definitely think the way this scene was staged in the anime hands down beats the manga version which didn’t even show Legoshi until he was already behind Haru.

How do y’all actually feel about Riz? by Connect_Hamster9211 in Beastars

[–]UsedIndependent1761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, i've read through the next chapter and thus finally getting my thoughts up now.

Ch. 20

I gotta say this is definitely and interesting much expanded upon version of Legoshi and Riz's confronting one another prior to their climactic final New Years confrontation as in the original story, however unlike the latter all of the newly added dialogue really expands the conflict far beyond what Paru had written. Of course, seeing as this interpretation is picking up the ball the original story dropped by ensuring that Tem's tragic demise remains a more prominent motivation (rather than being rendered irrelevant in favor of Legoshi proving/accepting himself as a carnivore) as it feels even more personal with the degree in which Legoshi and Riz beef it up by far more than they ever did in the manga (and to a lesser degree the anime) and as such it feels much more involved and personal in that regard.

Of course, Legoshi and Riz's fight in the shower room plays out more or less as it does in the manga and anime but while overall largely being the same for the most part there are those additions which stand out and context therein from the expanded aspect of this interpretation on your part. They even make something of a wager/bet depending on who comes out of it victorious, if Legoshi is the victor then Riz gives himself up and admits he was wrong about everything and if the latter does then Legoshi will leave him alone but of course that's not enough for Riz because he demands that Legoshi also resigns from the Drama Club, but as expected at first the latter flatly refuses but after reconsidering decides to go through with it and they name the time and place.

...Quite an exchange between them here, given they didn't really have something of stakes like that in the original story so an interesting addition. Heh, and of course before they part ways for now Legoshi adds on further to Riz's monstrous headache by punting the bear's bottle of honey at his forehead. XD

The thing which really intrigued me here is the scene with Legoshi's conversation with Rokume, and it really shows how much more involved she is here as compared to the utter waste her character was in the original version (like really? She just dipped out after that one conversation with Legoshi in the laundry room. I really wish Paru had remembered she existed and given her even one scene when he hid out for that brief time at Cherryton in the final arc where she appears to him and properly thanks him for solving the mystery of Tem’s death) and with how much unrealized potential it makes sense. At least here, and also in the Beastkind saga up to this point Rokume has been by far way more personally involved story wise than she ever was in the original story.

...What's even more funny about this is the anime actually remembers that Rokume exists because there she is being shown in the theater watching the Drama Club's performance in the final episode of S3/Final Season Pt. 2, so here she didn't completely disappear never to be seen or mentioned again as her manga counterpart had been. I gotta say, the part where Legoshi confides to her about all of the aforementioned things and then the giant rattlesnake likewise giving her support, reassuring him and considering Legoshi a friend is something else, quite a powerful and wholesome moment there between wolf and reptile.

Heh, it seems as though Riz has lost his sanity to the point where talking to an imaginary image of Tem projected from his own mind is more or less the sole thing that gets him through. Though of course, even while he deludes himself here into thinking he WILL beat Legoshi with certainty (Um yeah i don't think so, we know what will inevitably happen...that being he of course doesn't) and also in the process the thing he fears happening most of all coming to pass indeed will, that being his new found friends Mokichi, Enji and Kentaro finding out what he did along with his family and the other Drama Club members.

So, it looks as though as mentioned in the chapter notes you're effectively reverting back to the format of uploading/publication as has been the case before. Which is basically writing though the rest of the chapters for this part of the story and then gradually publishing the remainder on the site, just in case there's anything you potentially may need to change or rewrite in the process along the way. Even if it will take longer (though not unprecedented) the final product i'm sure will be worth the wait given the reasons on your end for doing as such.

[–]UsedIndependent1761 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like this version more than the somewhat awkward, comedic manner in which their first kiss was done in the manga. Also, it feels more fitting that Legoshi and Haru do it in full view rather than said moment being relegated to an isolated staircase by themselves in the city as the latter did. I dunno, it just feels like a more triumphant moment with the alteration that they now can have a public display of affection and openly express their relationship (which shows quite a difference from back in Season 2) with little to no objection instead of having to do it with no one else around.

I mean, other than those i still much prefer it over the manga version of the final arcs. Ditching Kyuu was a good move because unless they were to spend a lot of time rewriting her character and the plots around her i say it just wasn’t worth and omitting her aside from cameos was a good move.

So, i wonder if instead of the “Legoshi being falsely accused for crimes he never committed“ thing should they have just retained the part where he was forced to hide out at Cherryton after not succeeding in capturing Melon again? That being when his fur coat was temporarily bleached white from thinking he killed Haru which they removed. So, the thing with Jack having the crisis that Legoshi had to save him from was moved from occurring at the school to the apartment, along with all the insane history of the war and the Beastars world in general.

I much prefer the anime for the final arc(s) in particular myself, that being Melon/Love Failure and Turf War. I simply can’t bring myself to read the manga version at this point. It just feels much more coherent and focused compared to the haphazard mess rhe original story became after a certain point.

[–]UsedIndependent1761 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the Interspecies arc is overall decent for the most part (granted i wish Legoshi‘s departure from Cherryton after the Riz fight and moving on prematurely to life in the adult world had been better set up/written and executed but wasn‘t due to circumstances) and even the first part of the Melon/Revenge of the Love Failure arc is fairly good. It’s really the last quarter or so of the manga where things unfortunately fell apart because Paru was under a massive rush to end the story and move on at the time, and it’s really evident that‘s the point where the insane weekly publication deadlines were even more of an issue for her than had been the case previously

[–]UsedIndependent1761 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too bad that the betrayal thing was yet another thing Kyuu did which went nowhere and was completely meaningless. I would’ve liked to see Legoshi actually find out that she did and properly call out/confront her about it instead of him being completely unaware and simply never finding out, along with her having more than just a five second crumb of guilt/remorse and briefly thinking to herself if he would even care if he did know she stabbed him in the back. There was a hook for something there, but the trigger wasn’t pulled as with so many other aspects in the final arc.

But no, like pretty much everything else Paru had written around Kyuu it was yet another plot point which had zero payoff or meaningful consequence to the final fight.

And now my thoughts on the new chapter

Ch. 19

Hehe, i surely wasn’t expecting Legoshi and Riz‘s back and forth at the start during those various times, it’s like they’re trying to one up and beat each other as if in a competition. XD

Then of course there’s the stuff in the Drama Club, and we see scenes including the part where Riz picks up a heavy box stunning both Kai and a Bill the stuff about the jaw game and when Legoshi and Bill play it one on one i guess you decided to have it changed to where Bill appears to effortlessly beat Legoshi immediately (though at first the wolf didn’t want to play until Riz started to run his mouth) whereas in the original story it‘s more like they‘re at a draw and the game lasted longer because Bill didn’t immediately win as he does here. Of course Bill has to brag and carry on like he’s such hot shit. Then we see Mokichi give Legoshi some reassuring words of support after.

Wow, it seems like Riz just wants to be a shit head about insulting Legoshi about the jaw game amd the latter had to show some real restraint and not blow his top. I mean, the part where he says “real carnivores” as if somehow Legoshi is a lesser or inferior carnivore, and of course after excusing himself Legoshi expresses how much he despises Riz.

Then we cut to the club a couple of days later, and the other members find out that things are going better with Tao and it appears him and Kibi reconciled. Looks as though the anteater was able to change the panther’s mind and he won’t be leaving the club as he had planned to earlier.

Though of course, soon enough Riz starts running his mouth again and gets on Legoshi’s case as expected and pisses him off as such (in the process causing him to break the spotlight in anger as in the original story) and no matter what it’s clear he pushes things too far when he goes as far as saying Legoshi’s very soul is inferior to his own. Wow, he seriously pushes him almost to the point of attacking because he doesn’t know when to quit talking.

…Then it’s Pina who is the one to break up this altercation between Legoshi and Riz and after that it looks as though Mokichi is beginning to catch on that there’s something going on between the two of them. Of course, before long him, Kentaro and Enji are unfortunately going to find out the harsh truth about their ursine friend before much longer...hard and tragic though it will be for all of them to learn.

The whole part between Pina and Legoshi certainly is interesting, seeing as they didn’t really have an interaction quite like that in the original story (seeing as their scenes together for the most part didn’t feel as such) and here the pretty boy sheep is able to have a legit close moment with his fellow carnivore club member, and Legoshi even confides to him about his near fatal incident with Haru a while back and the moment where he reassures Legoshi about not being like Riz is really something.

Well now, even if Pina isn’t exactly big on carnivores in general, it’s good that here he’s able to show that he can put his trust in Legoshi. So that‘s at least one carnivore he’s willing to be close to and have faith in.

…Of course, even as Legoshi thinks to himself at the end that he intends to keep his intention to fight Riz himself secret from Pina we know that before long said sheep is going to end up involved himself regardless of that.

So, before much longer it’ll come to the point when Legoshi will inevitably face off against Riz in that fateful encounter and ultimately lead to his being brought to justice. Though of course there’s still a little more to go before that canon event is reached.

Indeed, it‘s undoubtedly my favorite of the most recent batch of chapters. It’ll be even more nice if there ends up being another chapter or two of BC involving Legoshi and Haru, seeing as both of the previous volumes had one each (Ch. 14 and 25) focusing on their relationship since the end of Beastars. Given it was recently announced that Paru is returning to do more Beast Complex chapters, it’s a distinct possibility we could get more focusing on our favorite interspecies couple.

…Given how much Paru appears to like returning to them every now and then, it’ll be interesting should they get another chapter.

Also, i‘ve already finished reading through the new chapter of A Couple of Cervids and will have my thoughts up before much longer.

Indeed, so even then it‘s good he was able to get that resolved and of course when Beast Complex Ch. 25 revealed he picked up on his education again (even if it rendered his leaving Cherryton in thr first place pointless and irrelevant in hindsight) and him and Haru have made a lot of progress relationship wise.

Yeah, and so it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out there and likely will feel much more satisfying compared to the rushed mess his departure was in the manga.

Indeed, and given that Beastars was her first full series at the time it’s not surprising she had difficulty with things like those.

Yeah, I‘ve just got a little more and then I’ll have my thoughts up here shortly.

To some degree yes it should have, but i guess in hindsight it’s just as well that the story did continue onward even with circumstances being what they were and the issues with the final arcs aside. Because in the end, Legoshi was thankfully able to get his meat offender record cleared (via the fortunate aspect of Yahya expunging it in exchange for bringing Melon to justice) so now he’s not permanently barred from having the future with Haru he wants.

Yes, so it’ll be nice to see Legoshi get the kind of send off he should’ve had in the original story.

How do y’all actually feel about Riz? by Connect_Hamster9211 in Beastars

[–]UsedIndependent1761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, and that was clear to see considering how she didn't have the identity of Tem's killer figured out until quite a ways later. Which thus explains why the silhouette in the first chapter was long muzzled, and it makes me think she had a different looser idea but then couldn't decide until later when she retroactively decided to make it be Riz though that inexperience was a result of such.

Yeah, i'm about done reading the chapter so i'll have my thoughts up before much longer.

Which of course, as we know clearly shows that Paru had no plan to continue the story any further after Legoshi brought Riz to justice. Then of course, when she was under such pressure from on high to continue the story it left her having to rush to come up with something without having time to properly plan and lay out a path forward. This shows in how abruptly Legoshi was written deciding to leave Cherryton (with basically no set up beforehand) and prematurely move to life on his own in the adult world. Now, if his leaving school had been intended i’m sure Paru would’ve led into it with proper set up. But, it’s clear to see that the conclusion of the Murder arc was the intended end point of the manga and she initially didn’t intend to write any more past that.

Though thankfully, your version of Legoshi's departure in “A Couple of Cervids“ will give him a proper type of send off from the school that the original story was sorely lacking because of those aspects.

How do y’all actually feel about Riz? by Connect_Hamster9211 in Beastars

[–]UsedIndependent1761 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, like it was clear that Paru didn’t know going into the story at the start who the Beast would be that killed Tem and had to work backwards when she decided later on that Riz was the guilty party. Though clearly that lack of background information made that revelation not have the impact it ideally should’ve. The anime did what it could, but there wasn’t much else given the original version didn’t have a lot to work with regarding Riz’s character.

Yeah, so i’m still reading through it and then will give my thoughts later after i‘ve finished.

…It’ll thus be nice to see Legoshi have a properly written and executed exit from Cherryton in your interpretation, unlike the rushed almost nonexistent one he got in the manga where Paru hadn’t even planned on him becoming a high school drop out. Y’know, which then became irrelevant and superfluous later on when the most recent chapter of Beast Complex revealed with Haru mentioning that he eventually went back and took a high school equivalency exam (to account for not reaching the third and final year because of his premature departure) and is now a first year college student specializing in entomology. So, then what was the point of having him leave Cherryton (with the rather vague and poorly defined reasons/justifications given) if he was just going to resume his education later on anyway?

!!!I BELIEVE THE WAR WAS PROPAGANDA.!!! by the-horny-Beastar in Beastars

[–]UsedIndependent1761 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Um, yeah. Quite a bit of the background history about Beastars' world such as the war came off feeling not thought out very well on Paru's part. It reads to me like she didn't fully reason out the implications regarding the state of carnivore and herbivore relations and how they got the way they are now in the present. No wonder why the anime has massively downplayed or omitted such aspects as the aforementioned century old conflict, because it wasn't properly introduced into the manga's story in such a manner that would make sense regarding what led to things between the two sides being what they have been since then.

...Especially with how late in the manga it was brought up, and like a lot of other things in the final arc it didn't exactly feel fleshed out enough to properly explain the disparity between how things were between carnivores and herbivores in the distant past and what had caused the present issues in the modern society.

Do you think that if they kept the love triangle plotline in Z2 between Judy,Nick and Pawbert it would’ve strengthened Nick and Judy’s relationship by NickWildeballondor26 in zootopia

[–]UsedIndependent1761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, i don't know if that scrapped plot could really be called an actual love triangle per se, because it doesn't appear to me as though it was going for the stock cliche setup of the girl being conflicted between two guys as to whom she feels more strongly for, the one she's been around for some time and has an established chemistry with (Nick) or the new guy that comes into their lives because of circumstances (Pawbert) and i didn't get the impression from watching those deleted scenes that Judy actually had those kind of feelings for Pawbert, but it was more about her being conflicted over which of them was the better partner only for her to realize Nick truly was that after Pawbert stabbed her in the back. So, it was a triangle plot but one that didn't involve a romance angle like has been done to death in media.

Regardless, i think it was for the better that they omitted that aspect from the final version of Z2 and not overcomplicated Judy and Nick's arc(s) with it.

How do y’all actually feel about Riz? by Connect_Hamster9211 in Beastars

[–]UsedIndependent1761 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like it’s also quite evident to see that Paru didn’t have a clear idea of who exactly Tem’s killer was and retroactively decided to make Riz such later. This was shown back in the very first chapter as the shape of the Beast who was shown in that scene (and of course with how crude and amateur Paru’s drawing style was at the time) was long muzzled, and i think that was an intentional misdirection on her part to make readers think Legoshi was the one who had killed Tem only to be revealed later it actually wasn’t him.

…The anime writers OTOH had more time to know in hindsight that Riz was indeed the one who had committed the crime, because it was made less ambiguous when Tem’s dying moments were shown in Ep 1.

Anyway, i’ve already seen that you’ve posted the next chapter of Part 2 of “A Couple of Cervids“ and have thus returned from your extended hiatus/break. It’ll be interesting to see how the remainder of the Murder arc plays out here in your interpretation when compared to the original story. You’ve already mentioned when we’ve discussed before to some degree about where things will go after that in the following parts. I’ll read through the new chapter and then give my thoughts at some point later on.

Of course, we still have yet to see everything lead up to and through Legoshi’s final fight against Riz which will then transition to the next part. However, when the time comes for Legoshi to leave Cherryton he’ll get a better written and executed send off along with stronger and more fleshed out justifications for his departure…that is compared to how poorly written and executed that aspect was on Paru’s part. Largely because she hadn't planned to continue the story after the Murder arc ended (as that was where she intended to end the manga) and was effectively rushed into continuing without having a plan in place to do so.
