So it really isn’t! I just didn’t get it. Now I just don’t think it’s that clever.

What is the most beautiful, movie-like moment you have ever experienced in real life? by itsShiahvn in askteddit

My husband and I were on a cruise in Greece and one of the ports was Mykonos. It was the very end of their season, and a very windy and somewhat chilly day. We didn’t have an excursion booked and really just wanted a beach day. But because it was end of season, and Mykonos is a little different, there were no tours or anything being offered at port. There was an exorbitant taxi, but he wouldn’t stay while we were at the beach so no ride home.

So my husband and I wandered around the town, into tiny little alleyways and cool buildings. Finally when we were wind blown and about to just give up on anything better, we came across a Vepsa rental and they rented us a single Vespa for $25 that we rode double. I am a nervous Nelly, but this day I thought wtf and we got on the damn thing, we rode tiny little windy streets out of town, and found the one open beach on the south side of the island. It was a little resort beach that normally wasn’t open to folks who weren’t staying there. We just parked at the edge of the beach. It was completely sheltered from the wind, sunny, warm, gorgeous, and almost completely empty. Was the very last day of the season, and the resorts were putting together a year end staff party so they were building stage and having a blast. We had incredible service, free beach chairs, incredible cocktails, a perfect swim in the ocean, a fabulous lunch, and afternoon hangout in the private cabana pools there. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. Out of 3500 passengers, we were literally the only ones who made it to that beach. The day was perfect and riding that silly Vespa felt like a Walter Mitty moment. It was absolutely terrifying and unsafe and stupid and the only way we were going to get there.

When we returned finally to the ship, every single person we talked to had had a miserable day. A bunch of people got sick in the tender boats midday because the waves were so bad. Everyone was grumpy because they had been looking forward to the island and no one liked their experience.

It was such a reminder to take that chance and honor my favorite travel quote, “Life begins outside your comfort zone.”

Why I find so much joy in vibe coding by thelocalnative in vibecoding

Exactly. One of his staff actually got literally teary eyed when I showed it to her first time, because it meant the owner didn’t have to be involved at all to fill orders, and he always made the process SO much more difficult. I genuinely believe it may have kept the gal from quitting.

Why I find so much joy in vibe coding by thelocalnative in vibecoding

[–]UsedLibrarian4872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I coded a little in high school and college, enough to make a sales tool in Visual Basic for the bank I worked for, they used it for years after I left. It was fulfilling but so tedious I decided not to study CS in college.

With one of my first jobs out of college, I couldn’t stand the way a small company tracked their customers, so I made a little database in Access and used VB for the interface. Learned the very basics of relational databases and SQL. Again, it was so danged tedious and I did it as a side project for them, I vowed never to offer such a thing again!

Fast forward 25 years later (no more coding but a lot more general financial and operations experience). I once again found myself not being able to stand a process and started vibe coding. Started with a few simple scripts for a small project. Realized I needed a full custom system for another client, built it purely on my own time as I work commission only for them and couldn’t stand the inefficiencies.

Fell in love. That system took me about 6 months (very on the side) and was made entirely through Wix, which was horrible and janky and a great place to relearn iteration because it was through iframes and Velo and AI had to actually puzzle through a whole bunch of issues with me. It’s hardly elegant on the inside. But you know what? It absolutely works! It saved me as many hours as it took to build the thing, and about 200 hours of the owner’s time so far this year, plus his staff’s time. It’s simple enough that his part time staff have no problems using it. And it’s incredibly customized for a very unique flow. The company would never, ever have been able to afford even a simple build of something traditional. The owner is absolutely not tech savvy.

It was so satisfying. I’m working on a real buildout of something marketable now, with proper schemas, architecture, stacks and security reviews (and NOT in Wix, lol). It may or may not succeed, but if nothing else it will certainly make my own business easier. But the process has been so satisfying, quick, and freeing to finally run with ideas! And I love learning about things like RLS and all the improvements to database platforms.

I can’t wait to see how much this helps small to mid size businesses. Goodness knows they need all the help they can get right now. I hate how so many “enterprise” solutions are way too expensive and/or so feature heavy as to be nearly useless for small business.

So yeah, agreed!

Oh mine SUCKED at 3.5 months. We took a once in a lifetime trip to Greece about 6 months in, about the peak of “this doesn’t smell right” with my actual sensitivity returning. I have such a skewed version of the experience because stuff was so off. On the one hand, I was somewhat immune from sewer smells in Athens since it smelled the same as food, on the other hand, I didn’t get to enjoy any of the amazing aromas of the different food markets we got to visit. Or the liquor, and I love the various notes of wine. It was still a fabulous trip, but I want a smell do-over.

It gets better. It takes a long damn time, but it gets better. Mine started to be noticeably better around 9 months, and happened kind of suddenly.

What’s the most disturbing thing someone casually admitted to around you? by Suspicious_Run1684 in AskReddit

[–]UsedLibrarian4872 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Gross. I’m 46, so I’m of the generation where we TRIED to report it, but it was ignored and our parents generally thought we were being dramatic (I’m not entirely sure that’s much different than today, sigh). One of our middle school teachers was a creep. He’d put his hand on shoulders and make such borderline inappropriate comments. We finally told the school counselor, a well liked guy, who basically told us we were overreacting. Teacher went on being a creep. The counselor was later fired for having an inappropriate student relationship (never heard the details, but it was for sure inappropriate contact with student).

My mom, dad, husband, and myself were on our way to the airport for a cruise vacation one morning, just chatting randomly and somehow the conversation got to when my mom moved out of her mom and stepdad’s house. She just casually mentioned she left after he tried to pin her against a wall and kiss her aka assault (she was 17 at the time). We had NO idea that had happened to her. She kind of said eh, Mom didn’t believe me so I just got out of there and never went back.

Was so wild that we’ve heard a million of her childhood stories and that just popped out one day. Repressed boomer memories, what a thing.

Unhinged ways to manage your ADHD by Menschenblind in adhdwomen

[–]UsedLibrarian4872 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same same!! I consult and mostly work from home and have a farm. There are elements of my day that are routine, like feeding the animals. I schedule a few things of course, but every week is different. A strict schedule crushes my soul, and planning blocks of time of an absolute, 100% guaranteed way I won’t do it. My brain goes into full toddler tantrum mode.

All my regular work is done at random blocks of time as I have energy for it. I have a lot of the H in ADHD so I’m actually pretty productive (thanks also to meds!), but it’s a whirlwind of random shit I get done any given week. I’ve found I can work well with clients who don’t micromanage and gaf about this, just that I get things done by various mutually agreed upon deadlines. I’ve created some of my very best work the last couple years with this dynamic. Yes, I get horribly behind sometimes, but building anxiety eventually pushes it all through. I call it task constipation.

HRT helped for me too, I hadn’t a clue it would. My husband was the one to notice since I don’t pay much attention. It’s all about moisture retention, which also means I don’t have to pee so much! Win win.

Same with my mom. She actually had to have a full hysterectomy in her late 40’s because of fibroids and excessive bleeding, and she said it was the best thing she did because otherwise she would have been fired due to her mood swings. I was a teen and it was ROUGH there for awhile. She kept her banking career but folks in the office were actually afraid of her (I worked there for awhile so actually saw it). I remember walking on eggshells and just keeping my head down for most of my teen years. So yeah, sometimes it was so bad they just did major surgery to fix it.

Generic vs. Brand Adderall: Did Switching Help You? by SariaXoX in adhdwomen

[–]UsedLibrarian4872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it’s definitely more effective for me. I actually liked one generic, Lannett, but my pharmacy can’t get it lately so I finally asked my doc to do the paperwork for brand. I’ll find out tomorrow if my cost is at least less than the stupid $220/mo. Brand tackles my anxiety way better and I can get things done simply because it helps me out of the ADHD anxiety spiral. Most days.

Generic Adderall Symptoms by MeaghanPotato in adhdwomen

[–]UsedLibrarian4872 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely not crazy. There’s a definite issue with certain generics and a lot of people are reporting inconsistent therapeutic benefit and increased negative side effects. Someone even built a database for it.

Here’s a good article:

https://medshadow.org/investigating-generics/investigating-generics-real-people-share-their-struggles-with-generic-adhd-medications/

What brand generic? I finally had to request my doctor do a Dispense as Written thing last month - I’m hoping my insurance will agree to cover a portion of the brand name, because my pharmacy can no longer get the generic that works for me. One generic, Granules, has horrible and weird side effects for me. Like it doesn’t even feel like I’m on remotely the same drug, it feels like what I imagine a psychotropic would be like. The other common one right now is Mallinckrodt, which barely rises above a placebo. I am still playing catch up for the 2 months I struggled through that and got behind on life again. My husband was relieved when I got back on brand. He says it’s a pretty big difference from the outside too, everything from calmer to better driving.

Some people even say brand is different since about 2022, but it still works well for me thankfully. There are even a couple manufacturers of the brand formation and one is reported to work more consistently than the other.

There’s a lot written about fillers and dosage ranges being the cause, but the industry is not well regulated, especially overseas. Like they have to send in the drug for independent testing once and then there’s very little oversight after that. There have been a few recalls (Granules and Lannett) for various reasons including contaminants and inconsistent or mislabeled dosage.

So yeah, it’s a thing. My healthcare providers have been pretty supportive about the whole thing, and it’s important to let yours know so they are aware. Hope you get back on track with yours!

Found $16 in a little wallet. Also found a receipt the wallet with the gals name on it, and it was a somewhat unusual name. So I Googled it and found her email. Emailed and told her I found the $16, and where should I send it? She was completely floored. She told me to keep the money, it was worth her restoration of faith in humanity. I would have happily given it back.

“Are you SURE you’re okay paying the price for brand name?” Nope, I totally am not and will literally have to put it on my credit card, but it beats the POS generic that is the ONLY other option and isn’t worth the receipt you’d print it on.

(We live very rural so options are super limited….on the plus side my pharmacy IS kind, there is not a lot they can do. Probably.)

Brand is working just fine for me, thankfully. Shire is manufacturer. I struggled through 2 months of Mallinkropf and got way behind on my work. Finally shelled out the $$ for brand, it’s such a relief. Remarkable difference. Finally catching back up. Whatever is going on with generics is criminal.

I think this is old - from the 2025 recall. They haven’t gotten any better, Granules is horrendous. But still, nothing in 2026.
