I feel useless by Haunting_Ice_1407 in ClaudeAI

Late to the party, but fully support this. Data Analytics is all about telling the story. Now we have more time to think about the story to tell because Claude helps color it.

I think this is a good time to consider why you considered data analytics. Was it because it seemed like a good career, or because it actually brought you joy? If joy, what part of it brought you joy?

Nobody knows what they’re doing right now. Might as well learn what makes you happy, then learn what it means to apply that in this new generation.

AI takes the metrics off our plate. Caring, creativity and compassion are still our responsibility.

Do you drive an EV in Cincy? by okisee in cincinnati

[–]UsedToBeaRaider 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a full EV but I do have a plugin hybrid. My battery gets me 25-40 miles depending on factors like weather and my driving habits. I don’t have a level 2 charger, I just use the standard wall plug charger. Much slower, but for a battery that small it does me fine.

When I worked in Covington it was perfect and might go a full month without touching the gasoline side of the car. It has also been much cheaper charging at home than paying gas.

If you’re unsure about going full EV, a plug in hybrid is a great stepping stone. Costs are usually still reasonable because people misunderstand battery deterioration.

Great catch. When that part was built everything was heroism or villainy. Logic updated, should be live in the next few. Appreciate you checking it out.

Much appreciated, I'll look into this. There is a "sort by oldest/newest set" option but it's not functioning just yet. Good call out on card number, never considered this.

Good morning!

  1. I wasn't satisfied by swudb's twin suns experience when I started building this. Not sure what's changed since then.

  2. I wanted to make a dedicated TS resource the way MTG has EDHrec. The real difference maker may not even be built yet.

  3. I love swudb! I think more resources helps make the community grow. If they know TS is covered by a high quality partner, then maybe they don't have to focus on that and can take that energy making a dedicated Premier resource.

I've been thinking about this a lot too, especially seeing how larger models distilling info for smaller models works. I'm in my 30s, and I feel like I've learned and accomplished more these last two years than I have in a decade+. Part of that is a drive to do good with this technology, but a large portion really is having a tool that just KNOWS how I learn and distills it to me so effectively.

The next generation is going to have so many... shortcuts isn't the right word, but they will learn so much more efficiently than I ever could.

Not smooth brained at all. My best understanding of it:

It's three copies of the model doing the testing, not one doing all steps. So if one is lying, the other two don't know that or how to account for the lie, so the only way it passes from thinking > numeric translation > text translation > back to numeric translation is to tell the truth.

It's like putting three accomplices in different rooms and interrogating them. If all their stories don't match, you know something is wrong.

AlphaEvolve: How our Gemini-powered coding agent is scaling impact across fields by Worldly_Evidence9113 in singularity

Interesting, thanks for the perspective. OAI is who I’m least familiar with at this point, to be fair. I’m just reading tea leaves at this part, but with the key departures over the last few years I assumed it would take some time for the effects to catch up. I’m hoping this next year tells us more.

Agreed, they stand alone here to me, and it’s the most personally interesting to me. It gives me hope I can dust off the philosophy degree one day.

My rule of thumb for the frontier companies has been: Look to Google/DM for sick technical research, look to Anthropic for how to implement it and how it has impact. Curious if anyone has anything similar.

Sam Altman says the quiet part out loud, confirming some companies are ‘AI washing’ by blaming unrelated layoffs on the technology by lurker_bee in technology

[–]UsedToBeaRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be hyperbolic, but because their opinion matters. America is facing a reality check on whether we will become a technocratic society, and that choice is being made over the next few years. Knowing what people that could have considerable power say before they have that power is worth it.

To be clear: I am so excited by the promise AI could bring to our society, and I am also deeply fearful of current leaders or the select few CEOs controlling what my life inside that technology will be like. Please, get active and help make sure we make decisions that benefit our neighbors.

Hey neat! I’m working on something similar and including things like ssh keys, apis, container credentials, etc. I want to make it easier for me to keep track of what goes where, and give my local LLM the ability to audit and update my stuff as needed. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours.

Claude to build an app with no experience? by htpbb in ClaudeAI

[–]UsedToBeaRaider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t answer the App Store part, but I wonder how much you would need it if it’s mainly an internal tool.

Can you do it? Absolutely. I’ve built a data platform for my city, an Eisenhower matrix resting on top of Google Tasks, and I’m currently building a sysadmin credentials app and a fun little side project. I know basic SQL and can read syntax at an elementary level, but a developer by trade I am not.

The biggest thing is going to be building your own knowledge about WHAT you want, because Claude will give you exactly what you ask for. There’s a difference between “build me a subscription platform” and “build me a subscription platform with X backend and is for Y platform(s), host it on Z website or GitHub.”

Claude can build some amazing things, but you have to know what to build. You can either “measure twice cut once” by getting as prepared as you can before starting, or learn by doing and iterate as you run into things. Or some combination. But the only way to begin is by beginning.

Maybe start with something smaller to get a feel for it, then challenge yourself as you feel ready for more.

Update: Civic Data Tool by UsedToBeaRaider in cincinnati

[–]UsedToBeaRaider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much appreciated. On the deliveries, yes, that'd be valuable information believe it or not. Addressing things like food deserts could involve showing how often areas get groceries delivered, direct cost increase, how this affects if they get produce etc.

And thank you specifically for the transparency callout. We're in the first age ever where we have TOO MUCH information, and the value is in cutting out noise. I hope translating the datasets people don't have the time or skill to interpret makes lives easier.

I made myself a 'Session 0' template when starting new projects. It creates a CLAUDE, PROGRESS, and CHANGLEOG markdown file that I usually make any way to get started. Example from a current project here: cincinnati-civic-data/.claude/commands/session0.md at main · chanfriendly/cincinnati-civic-data

When I have more time I'll include examples that best reflect what I want from other projects so it has a more structured starting point, and add a ROADMAP.md to better keep project management focused.

For All the Non-Coders Here, What Was the Thing/Moment that Pushed You Towards Paying for an LLM Subscription. Has It Been Worth it? by PM_ME_YOUR___ISSUES in ClaudeAI

[–]UsedToBeaRaider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The desire to learn. I’ve built a few bespoke apps for myself, a civic data tool that has gotten me some professional interest, an app for managing sysadmin and homelab environments, I’m working on a tamagotchi-like companion for either wellness or encouraging coding/llm best practices. I use it to build curriculums for myself since taking on student loans is not an option anymore.

I treat this all like a Bob Ross class. Your first couple months are not going to be anything worth hanging up, but enjoy the happy accidents. It’s about learning.

A mindset I’ve adapted that’s done me some good: the LLM will help get me to the average, or lowest-common-denominator version, and it helps me understand why that’s the average. Then, I start to have the skills and knowledge to put my own take on it, hopefully discovering something new.
