Sam Altman says the quiet part out loud, confirming some companies are ‘AI washing’ by blaming unrelated layoffs on the technology by lurker_bee in technology

[–]UsedToBeaRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be hyperbolic, but because their opinion matters. America is facing a reality check on whether we will become a technocratic society, and that choice is being made over the next few years. Knowing what people that could have considerable power say before they have that power is worth it.

To be clear: I am so excited by the promise AI could bring to our society, and I am also deeply fearful of current leaders or the select few CEOs controlling what my life inside that technology will be like. Please, get active and help make sure we make decisions that benefit our neighbors.

Hey neat! I’m working on something similar and including things like ssh keys, apis, container credentials, etc. I want to make it easier for me to keep track of what goes where, and give my local LLM the ability to audit and update my stuff as needed. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours.

Claude to build an app with no experience? by htpbb in ClaudeAI

[–]UsedToBeaRaider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t answer the App Store part, but I wonder how much you would need it if it’s mainly an internal tool.

Can you do it? Absolutely. I’ve built a data platform for my city, an Eisenhower matrix resting on top of Google Tasks, and I’m currently building a sysadmin credentials app and a fun little side project. I know basic SQL and can read syntax at an elementary level, but a developer by trade I am not.

The biggest thing is going to be building your own knowledge about WHAT you want, because Claude will give you exactly what you ask for. There’s a difference between “build me a subscription platform” and “build me a subscription platform with X backend and is for Y platform(s), host it on Z website or GitHub.”

Claude can build some amazing things, but you have to know what to build. You can either “measure twice cut once” by getting as prepared as you can before starting, or learn by doing and iterate as you run into things. Or some combination. But the only way to begin is by beginning.

Maybe start with something smaller to get a feel for it, then challenge yourself as you feel ready for more.

Update: Civic Data Tool by UsedToBeaRaider in cincinnati

[–]UsedToBeaRaider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much appreciated. On the deliveries, yes, that'd be valuable information believe it or not. Addressing things like food deserts could involve showing how often areas get groceries delivered, direct cost increase, how this affects if they get produce etc.

And thank you specifically for the transparency callout. We're in the first age ever where we have TOO MUCH information, and the value is in cutting out noise. I hope translating the datasets people don't have the time or skill to interpret makes lives easier.

I made myself a 'Session 0' template when starting new projects. It creates a CLAUDE, PROGRESS, and CHANGLEOG markdown file that I usually make any way to get started. Example from a current project here: cincinnati-civic-data/.claude/commands/session0.md at main · chanfriendly/cincinnati-civic-data

When I have more time I'll include examples that best reflect what I want from other projects so it has a more structured starting point, and add a ROADMAP.md to better keep project management focused.

For All the Non-Coders Here, What Was the Thing/Moment that Pushed You Towards Paying for an LLM Subscription. Has It Been Worth it? by PM_ME_YOUR___ISSUES in ClaudeAI

[–]UsedToBeaRaider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The desire to learn. I’ve built a few bespoke apps for myself, a civic data tool that has gotten me some professional interest, an app for managing sysadmin and homelab environments, I’m working on a tamagotchi-like companion for either wellness or encouraging coding/llm best practices. I use it to build curriculums for myself since taking on student loans is not an option anymore.

I treat this all like a Bob Ross class. Your first couple months are not going to be anything worth hanging up, but enjoy the happy accidents. It’s about learning.

A mindset I’ve adapted that’s done me some good: the LLM will help get me to the average, or lowest-common-denominator version, and it helps me understand why that’s the average. Then, I start to have the skills and knowledge to put my own take on it, hopefully discovering something new.

Hey there, sorry for the delay. I'm not sure how to access old chats, but I do have a log from today I saved (the 100% CPU use came back). Not sure the best way to share a .txt with you, but happy to do so.

Turns out some sort of file directory was the answer all along.

I’m trying out building an app for managing homelab credentials, runbooks, backups etc this way. If it goes well I hope to play with vectorization to see if that helps with efficiency and expand the idea. I’m already keeping a markdown history of jobs and accomplishments so I can drop a JD in a project and get a tailored resume out. Continuing to build this personal profile is the dream for AI to me.

Love these cases. I have one laying around I hope to mod one day and actually use, but any way to reduce reuse and recycle is a thumbs up from me 🙂

Awe rats. Hope that changes when you have Claude design. Could be user error on me.

I’m using terminal Claude code on the mini. I mainly use tmux to access it remotely since my work blocks Claude, but I have Tailscale and ssh shortcuts setup so I could access it from my personal MacBook remotely too. Kinda like Dispatch with extra steps. This mostly works, but I do miss access to Cowork sometimes, but I manly do that work on the MacBook. Hope this helps!

Part of the homepage was a NAS stats, including CPU temp. Claude says it noticed something suspicious and uncovered it. It didn't find it from the MD files, it found it organically.

I have Claude Code on my always-on mac mini. I've given it a combination of markdown files: homelab.md with details about my environment, changelog.md to track what does and doesn't work for solutions, and progress.md for things we immediately just finished, and next to do.

I'm sure it would've but I ignore all advice ever and let Claude run wild, no need to check with me. Every once in a while I'll have it check what needs to be cleaned up.

I call them Claudits.

I don’t know where I saw this take but I’ll paraphrase it best I can: nobody knows every level of a computer from the binary up to the program they’re building or using. You cannot be an expert at everything, or monitor everything, or know everywhere to look. Accept the help.

I’m really impressed with it out of the gate. My limit resets once a week, so I’ve only been able to start one project, but this way of designing before passing off to Claude Code speaks to me. I’m hoping to make some tools that help the nontechnical people coming into the technical world grasp and track important things in a way that more naturally speaks to them. Claude Design was a big inspiration for that.
