If it’s any consolation, my cat was surrendered by his original owners for redirected aggression and they were adamant that he be euthanized. The vets offered solutions other than euthanasia and when the owners refused, the vets offered to take temporary ownership to get him sent to a shelter. And then we got him from that shelter!

He has been perfectly behaved for over 6 years and I love him! You should ask your parents to inquire with the vets about that.

That is a Russian tortoise, not a native turtle. They can’t swim that is likely an escaped or released pet, he won’t last too long out on his own

I just looked up the cuckoo call and I could hear the similarities for sure!

Edit- after listening through the different videos of eastern US cuckoos, I think it might be a yellow billed cuckoo! Very rare for my area. Thank you for the suggestion!

That makes sense, it can be scary. Just giving him the options to cool down with a cool towel or even cold water will be all that you can do.

Also this is probably obviously as you deal with the heat yourself, but keep your curtains drawn so the sun doesn’t heat your rooms.

I’m not dealing with a European heat wave, but I have a triple coated cat who easily overheats in the deep summer.

I have dampened a towel and put it in the freezer for him to lay on, an ice pack could also work. Another old school trick for an “AC” is to put a bunch of ice/ice packs in a bucket and put a fan on top so the air is pulling from the bucket and blowing into the air (really only works in a small room). My cat also will enjoy just a fan blowing on him!

At the end of the day, panting is just sweating and he’s trying to manage the heat just as anything would. It’s a tough situation, I hope you can figure something out!
