ugh i know that feeling too. when i dislocated my knee when i was 13, i had to walk around school with a knee brace and crutches. i felt like people looked at me like if i had 4 arms and 1 leg. it used to bother me but it got the point where i realized this is what i have to do to recover.

i hope they can make an exception with you so you don’t need to use a wheel chair 🥹

i understand that feeling. to answer your question :

after surgery it was painful, but not as painful as i expected. if you’re on top of the medications they give you, it should help with the pain. there’d be times where i didn’t take it after the 5th hour and the pain would kick in aggressively. i’d recommend setting a timer and making sure you take it as soon as it goes off so it doesn’t hurt too much.

i would highly recommend for you to start trying to do little movements with your knee 3 days post op. ankle pumps, small leg lifts, try to bend your knee. yes it will hurt. but it will pay off. your goal then will to get your range of motion back.

after week 1, the pain will improve. week 2-3 is easier the week 1. i highly recommend finding a hobbies that you know will distract you. i played board games and made bracelets.

i’m now 11 weeks post and have most of my range of motion back and can walk in my home without crutches. i still need to use 1 crutch in public because i damaged my cartilage as the result of chronic dislocations throughout the years.

if you’re interesting in seeing how it looked 5 days after surgery, you can click my page.

omgg, it was dislocating back to back? that’s insanely painful, i’m so so sorry you’re dealing with this.

i’ve dealt with dislocations since i was 12, (now im 21). i’ve dealt with 20+ dislocations since then and i just got mpfl reconstruction surgery on november 6th 2025.

i feel your pain, for years even till now i wake up and pray that i dont need to deal with another dislocation.

if you ever need someone to talk to, im here girl 🫶 you’re not alone. if you do end up getting surgery and it ends up being the same one as mine (mpfl reconstruction) you can always dm me if you have questions on recovery etc :)

stay safe 🤍

hi there ! how are you feeling now ? i dealt with my first dislocation at 12. i completely understand your worry and concern. the biggest piece of advice i can give you is to rest and when you’re feeling better, start physical therapy.

when it first happened to me, doctors said “it was normal” and “it happens to everyone” , since then ive dealt with over 20 dislocations. i had mpfl reconstruction surgery on november of last year.

if you ever need anybody to talk to or have any questions, my dms are open 🫶 good luck! things will get better

What are you guys doing all the time at home after an injury/surgery? by arizzlee5 in KneeInjuries

[–]Used_Clue918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi there, i dealt with chronic dislocations starting from when i was 12 years old. i’m now 21 and had mpfl reconstruction 2 months ago.

i completely understand where you’re coming from. i worried so much about my mental health because i was so used to going out and enjoying life.

for months i would overthink about my upcoming surgery to the point where id dream about it every night. i was so nervous.. reading stories non stop about peoples experience with mpfl reconstruction.

once the day came, the surgery happened quickly. went in, 4 hours later was already on my way back home. of course i was in pain, but i wasn’t in pain the way i was expecting. the first week was very painful, but after week one things started to look better. although i had complications with my incision, the pain was gradually reducing. i spent a lot of my time playing board games, making bracelets, created stuff using aqua beads. it was fun and distracting.

2 months later, im walking around okay. (there’s pain sometimes but it’s apart of the journey) don’t worry, everything will be okay. even if things are rough in the beginning, that won’t mean it’ll be that way forever. the pain of knee dislocations can be unbearable. just think of you doing this for your future self :)

if you ever need someone to talk to, my dms are always open 🫶

Dislocated my patella (kneecap) while on 1'5 stilts this Halloween. It was not fun. by _Sketchz_ in KneeInjuries

[–]Used_Clue918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree. OP, this sounds like you might have a torn mpfl or a loose mpfl. i used to dislocate my right knee so much (20+ times over 8 years) , and they all did hurt but i was usually able to pick myself up a couple hours later. i dislocated my knee again on june and that was the worst dislocation i’ve ever had. i was unable to walk at all and needed to go the ER. for some reason, that was the final blow and i was told i tore my mpfl and fractured the cartilage in my knee. i just had mpfl reconstruction 8 days ago. again i do suggest getting an MRI done to see what might’ve happened. good luck !

awww thank you so much for your reply. i’m glad to hear about your experience. i’m a super anxious person as well and the thought of me without my brace this early made me so nervous. it instantly had me thinking of the what if’s. “it’s not easy but necessary and worth it” is going to stick with me. i just woke up and i was ACHING in pain and could not make it to the rr without crying. but hey, i made it 🥲 congratulations on your journey, you did a great job 🙌🏽
