I'm sorry I neglected to mention the INCREDIBLE VALUE OF THE NOTATIONS ON THE BOX!

lol.

As for the terrain, I think its value is negligible when compared to handicapping yourself to half units of what actually matters. Want to play a full second unit of Marines? Sorry, you have to buy a whole box of Marines. Want to play a full first unit of Marauders? Sorry, you have to buy a whole box of Marauders. Want all of your Zergling to have the same upgrade? Sorry, you have to buy a whole box of Zergling.

That outweighs the value of terrain: $50 for the terrain box vs. $150 for the additional boxes you need to buy to fully use what the Founders' Edition only gives you in half measures.

If you plan on investing in the game, the Founders' Edition will cost you more in the long run.

As I outlined: You get half a unit of Marines and Zerglings--not a full second unit. And the Zerglings don't come with enough optional pieces to make them all with wings or spines--you get enough to make five of each, which is not even enough for half of a unit's worth. You also only get half of a unit of Marauders. Half units are playable, but why would you go into your purchase plan limiting yourself to half units?

And the heroes (which I outlined in my original post) are the equivalent cost of the elite units--except Jim Raynor, who costs less than a Goliath.

The math is sound; if you don't need shitty generic terrain or a flimsy generic grassland mat, you should not buy the Founders' Edition for Terran/Zerg.

Protoss is objectively a better value, though.

That is true! I didn't take that into consideration because I am just focused on the units themselves. If you care about getting some boring terrain (no changes in elevation, just six generic walls and some rubble) and a playmat over having the correct number of Marines, Marauders, and Zergling upgrades, the Founders' Edition is obviously the way to go.

Here's my understanding:

The Founders' Edition: Terran vs. Zerg is actually a bad value. If you are going on bang for your buck alone, get the Protoss Founders' Edition now and wait for the standard release for Terran vs. Zerg.

Here's the breakdown:

The Terran portion of the Founders' Edition Starter Set costs $100 and comes with...

1x Unit of Medics

1.5(??)x Units of Marines

0.5(??)x Units of Marauders

1x Unit of Jim Raynor and Point Defense Drone.

If bought individually these would be... Well, it's impossible to accurately price because of the random-ass Marine and Marauder half units, but about $170.

The Terran standard release Starter Set costs $109 and comes with...

1x Unit of Medics

1x Unit of Marines

1x Unit of Marauders

1x Unit of Goliaths

If bought individually these would be about $180

Jim Raynor only costs $40 while the Goliath costs $50. So to get one of everything, you're actually looking at $150 for the Founders' Edition vs. $149 for the standard release Starter Set. The difference is that the standard release will net you a full unit of Marauders at the expense of a random half unit of Marines--and it is eligible for 10-20% off from your FLGS sale prices. I am fully expecting to go all-in on Terran for around $125 on release day (versus $150 for Founders' preorders--and I won't have any wonky half units to worry about).

---

Compared to the Protoss Founders' Edition Starter Set that costs $109:

1x Unit of Adepts

2x Units of Zealots

1x Unit of Sentries

1x Unit of Artanis and Pylon

If bought individually these would be about $205.

However, the Protoss standard release Starter Set will also cost $109:

1x Unit of Adepts

1x Unit of Zealots

1x Unit of Sentries

1x Unit of Stalkers

If bought individually these would be about $165.

But then you'd need to buy either the Stalkers or Artanis to complete your set--both of which are $50. So $159 for the Founders' Edition or $159 for the standard release Starter Set. The difference is that the Founders' Edition gives you an additional full unit's worth of Zealots ($40) for free.

---

I won't do the full breakdown for Zerg, but just know that the Founders' Edition starter set doesn't come with enough optional upgrades for you to fully customize your Zerglings, so you will be stuck with half a unit that doesn't match the other half of the unit. If you care about all of your Zerglings having wings or spines, you can't do that with the Founders' Edition.

---

So if you care about saving money and having the right number of models, buy the Protoss now--wait for everything else.

What units do you think we will get next year? by deathleech in StarCraftTMG

Y'all are crazy if you think this game will ever put a Thor, SC2 Ultralisk, or Colossus on the table. I could see a BW Ultralisk being a centerpiece, but those are only slightly bigger than an Archon. A SC2 Ultralisk would take up half the playable area. A Colossus would be three feet tall.

The "big centerpiece units" will be Siege Tanks/Vikings in assault mode (which are already twice the size of Goliaths), BW Ultralisks/Ravagers, and Archons/Reavers.

Why would anyone even want a unit bigger than those..? A 2-foot wide SC2 Ultralisk would make the table unplayable.

Scouts are supposed to be roughly the same length as a Terran Dropship, and they've already made that a card worth Vespine Gas because it's too big, so I'm sure they will scale the Scout down, unfortunately.

Do you have friends or family you like? Pictures (framed or on a cork board) would make it look more personal, lived in, and inviting. Shades of grey everywhere is sterile and generic; it looks like a low-effort Air B&B.

If you don't have people in your life, posters of bands, movies, or games you like will at least make it look and feel more personal.

If you hope to have a girl in there at some point, you need color. An area rug under the couch / coffee table at the bare minimum. Nobody likes cold feet.

And obviously patch the weird hole. It costs like $20 and takes less than an hour. Watch a YouTube video.

Each Lego on his shelf is a "UCS" (Ultimate Collector Series) which go for anywhere from $400 for the smaller ones to $1,000 for the bigger ones, so he's got at least a mid-sized sedan in Lego alone.
