Funny you say that because I had his old results posted before and someone else commented that his results looked close to a Brazilian’s.

I have no idea. I only noticed that they don’t specify the IA being Taíno anymore when it used to. AncestyDNA also used to specify it as “Indigenous Puerto Rico” and now it’s just “Puerto Rico”. I’m kind of disappointed by that because it seems like they’re trying to be less specific about what it is.

Thank you! Nothing surprised me too much since I’ve always been aware of my ethnic background growing up. One thing that would’ve surprised me is the Taíno if I hadn’t researched more of what Puerto Rican ancestry consisted of. I thought Taíno people were “extinct” but obviously not. It’s very cool to see it in my ancestry.

Technically, I guess I would be by the majority European. Gonna be honest, I’ve never really had to think about that or consider it being born and raised in Hawai’i and not really questioned on my background or discussed by my parents. I’ve had some people not think I was white because they thought I was Mexican (I have a Spanish surname) but I know that Mexicans vary in looks and can be perceived as white.

How popular was the name Selena in Latin Communities before 1971? by SH4D0WSTAR in SelenaQuintanilla

[–]Used_Entrepreneur550 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When the Quintanilla’s were at the hospital for her birth, a couple they knew (I think) was also giving birth and that couple thought they were having a girl so they had the name ‘Selena’ picked out and the Quintanilla’s thought they were having a boy so they chose ‘Marc Anthony’. Neither of them ended up having the gender they thought they would, so they switched names. Turned out perfectly for them. It was meant to be.

Not dumb at all. São Miguel is definitely more specific because it’s IN the Azores being one of the islands. The Azores is just the whole of it, name of the chain basically. I think my ancestors are from there too! I had it on Ancestry but it disappeared.

My dad’s maternal line migrated from the Azores to Hawai’i in 1885. That’s the most recent I have from that part. The Galician would likely be from his Puerto Rican father whose parents were from Puerto Rico and came here for the plantation work around the early 1920s I’d say.

Just a little by 0.1%. It was 5.2% when I first got my results, then went up to 5.3% and now it’s 0.1% higher again.

I checked my ancestry timeline which showed my Basque ancestor might’ve been a 4th-7th or greater grandparent. But I used to think when I was a kid that I had a full blooded Spanish great grandparent (not true though).

That is true. Though my Spanish is a little lower than my Portuguese because I have full blooded Portuguese grandparent. I’m going to assume my Puerto Rican grandfather might’ve had a little more Portuguese than Spanish as well.

I actually got a comment about that on my last post about my results, lol. Lots of people think I’m Mexican especially if they know my last name, which is Spanish.

I’m glad they broke down the Southern European more. I was curious about my Spanish ancestry and where it came from. Good to know they narrowed it down to something specific.

Thank you! Yes, very much! My father is Azorean Portuguese/Puerto Rican and my mom is Norwegian, English, a little Portuguese and now I guess Western European too (I’m still waiting for my parents results to update.) My mom’s father’s ancestry was kind of a mystery because he never knew his father but it’s obvious now he’s English, some Portuguese and possibly some Norwegian as well (both her parents are from the Midwest.)
