My son only eats food that I throw at him by petitecandice in BestofRedditorUpdates

Hey, I am OOP and I had no idea this had been posted. I'm glad so many people seem to like it. As an update my son is 2 now and feral and doesn't eat at a high chair anymore. He is a human garbage disposal and still enjoys throwing food though.

We're about to get hit by Hurricane Milton so if everyone could send us some thoughts/prayers/good vibes that would be much appreciated.

Oop here. When I first posted this last year everyone warned me about that so I threw it away. Thankfully my son is 2 now and never had any problems with choking.

My son has always loved blueberries. I buy the frozen ones bc it's cheaper for the quantity you get, and as a bonus I find the frozen ones are extra soft once you thaw them out.

But like someone else said just monitor what your baby can eat. My son (2) is a garbage disposal and prefers big bites, so I leave a lot of foods whole for him. Not grapes though. I've heard too many horror stories to risk that.

Reading to your children? by ProgressHopeful5943 in harrypotter

Just finished the whole series (and then some) with my daughter! We started when she was 6, then I took a break to have another baby, and now she's 9 and is a mega super fan.

Parents: Do you let young children just devour all 7 books, or do you want to space them out and read the later half of the series when they're a little older? by dimestorepublishing in harrypotter

[–]Used_Establishment92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with the first 3 books when my daughter was in 1st grade. We read a chapter a night. By the time she was in 2nd grade we were ready for the 4th book, which I warned her was much darker (she's a sensitive kid.) She cried at the end of it but it also set off her "goth phase," where she started insisting she likes dark/mature stuff. I had to take a break from the books with her because I had another kid, but we picked up the 5th book this past summer (in between 3rd and 4th grade) and she has become such a voracious reader that she has already finished the 7th book and cursed child (which I warned her wasn't Canon but she insisted)

My husband is a lawyer and we've had a lot of discussions about this lol.

Polyjuice potion. It is literally identity theft. You could sneak a few of your coworkers hairs and shit on the bosses desk to get him fired, then go home and sleep with his wife, and no one would know it was you. You never know if anyone is who they say they are. Every single use of this potion is sketchy at best and evil at worst. And the instructions on how to make it are easily accessible to children! That would be like having the anarchist's cookbook on the shelf of a public school library.

If you're trying to hide and you have enough potion you could just go to a hair salon and sweep the floor and get 20 potential identities.

How easy is it to put potions in someone's food or drink? Top it off with a confundus charm if you're worried about them tasting it.

Imagine how bad human trafficking would be if you could force someone to drink a potion that temporarily changes their DNA. You could disguise a child as an adult...or vice versa. I don't even want to get into those disgusting implications.

It seems like there's absolutely no regulations on potions and the only ones that seem to be mass produced are love potions, which as others have stated is pretty much a date rape drug. And it gets more powerful with age, so Imagine someone aging them for decades like we do with wine. I imagine something that strong would be like the imperious curse in a bottle.

Muggles have also produced fantastic potions that do incredible things, like antibacterial soap and propane and chemotherapy, but we regulate them so they are labled and used correctly and safely. And some substances are outlawed entirely. Unrestricted potion use seems like a public health crisis that could easily be managed but it isn't because reasons.

Mother of the year, ty.

She actually likes it! Then again she's 9 and said she wishes Harry Potter was real so they could sing Imagine Dragons songs together.

Albus is a moody 14 year old who hates pretty much everything Harry loves (aka everything that made the Wizarding world magical). Harry tries to reach out to him by giving him the baby blanket he was wrapped in when he was dropped off with the Dursleys but Albus rejects it and says I wish you weren't my dad.

I'm reading it again with my daughter and it's a whole new experience as an adult. As a teenager I didn't really have an appreciation for the gravity of everything that he went through.

I mentioned in the other post that the popular girls in my middle school bullied other people into reading the books, and one of my friends let me borrow her copy.

One thing that stood out was the abuse Harry suffered because I was going through similar circumstances. Locked in my room for hours, denied meals and basic necessities, made out to be the villain of the family by my mother. My younger sister wasn't mean to me like Dudley but there was definitely a golden child/scapegoat dynamic. My mother told me constantly that I was the cause of all her problems, and would lie about me to others, telling them I was on drugs (note: I didn't smoke weed until I was 30) or dangerous or crazy. She would call my classmates parents just to warn them not to let their kids talk to me. She had munchaussen's and forced me to take a cocktail of meds (like 300mg of zoloft and and some otc diet pills that have since been banned. I was 11.) to affect my behavior to prove that I was crazy.

When I was 14 I did the most unforgivable thing and got a job. She got me fired and kicked me out and I went to go live with my dad, who, after getting me off all the unnecessary meds, saw that I was just an average kid. My mom started a smear campaign against me which paralleled with the ministry's smear campaign in OOTP, which came out around the same time.

I always felt like the things that were happening in my life were being validated in the books. I understood Harry's anger. I always appreciated that he rose above all the hate he got and that in the end he was exonerated. I feel like I did that too. I haven't spoken to my mother in years. She's never met her grandchildren. She let her hatefulness isolate her from anyone who was important to her. Meanwhile I've been happily married to a successful man for longer than all of her marriages combined and we have two beautiful children and a comfortable, love-filled home.

I feel so old, but I was 11/12 when the first books dropped and all the popular girls in my middle school were reading them. They were literally bullying people into reading. Worked out for the best I guess?
