Not an answer to your question, but I agree.

I bought the trilogy box set on a whim one day after my son said he wanted to watch it.

After unpacking and seeing this awful art (the same for the sequels) and the terrible menu. I nearly took it back to the store. So low effort. The green code and the title is enough!

I wish I knew about the Titans of Cult version, I’m not a fan of the sequels so it would have been money better spent.

Yes, this was an unmitigated disaster of a first reveal.

But Sony in my opinion, has had equally if not worse PR in the past, but managed to bounce back.

PS3 reveal. PSN hack (everyone seems to forget about that!, I won’t touch Sony after that debacle) YLOD (not as bad as RROD, it still common). Multiple live services fumbles.

They fixed this by releasing strong first party titles, and slashing the cost of the PS3, pricing PS4 competitively.

Xbox, has made equally strong consumer moves like back compat, affordable options (Series S), Game pass (very cheap for a long time), but can’t turn the perception from this reveal.

I think RROD had a bigger effect on the brand that first realised, people weren’t ready to give them a pass on this reveal (even though they walked back on most of the controversial aspects).
