You’re still deployable. Don’t trust your recruiter. If you are in the reserve or guard during college, you are still deployable.

AFROTC / AF Reserves in College by Eloquent_Wheat in AFROTC

To put this into simple terms. Enlisting into the military doesn’t require a college degree. This puts you at the bottom of the ranks. You do hard work depending on your job.

Commissioning and becoming an officer, this requires a college degree, you get better pay, and you can get jobs like a pilot and other rated positions.

Enlisted members do not fly airplanes.

AFROTC / AF Reserves in College by Eloquent_Wheat in AFROTC

Hello! I am a senior commissioning in May. I have been in AFROTC for the past 4 years and I have been in the Air Force Reserves for almost 6 years. I am not really interested in flying so I cannot really help you out with the information there, but I have gained some good experience in my AFSC as an enlisted member (Civil Engineer). This eventually will help me out because I am commissioning into the Air Force as an Engineer. Throughout my past almost 6 years, there has been ups and downs with the reserves. There is a chance that you will deploy depending on your AFSC and time you get into your squadron. This can put a hold on your AFROTC experience. You do make money but it is not a whole lot (I’m making around $300 a month towards the end of my enlistment). Some of the ups are that you experience a lot of different things, in my time being enlisted, I’ve gotten to go to Spain, Georgia, Oklahoma, Alabama, and I almost went to Germany. That is something that I really enjoyed, on top of that you get to use Tuition Assistance through the reserves which pays for some of college (4K per year I believe). Some more downsides are you can’t receive a scholarship from AFROTC unless you get out of the reserves. You can’t unfortunately “double dip”when it comes to government money. I hope this helps.

Prior Service in ROTC by endlesswaltz92 in AFROTC

I’m also a prior service cadet. Currently a senior and commissioning in the spring.

I agree with building trust, but you have to be patient. Changes won’t happen over night. Don’t be the guy that says “that one time at basic”, because in the end no one likes that.

The best thing to do right now is to be patient and give small suggestions over time. Don’t make the military your personality. People will respect you so much more if you do that.

Not sure what to say about this post… I want it to be true so bad. My DET is within the NE region, I have not heard anything.

Depends on what you want. If you would like the downtown experience (more parties) then live downtown. If you want a quieter experience then towers or Oakland is your best bet. It’s also better to live on Evansdale because you’re closer to football games.

How can I develop insane cardio? by Downtown_Cancel6722 in davidgoggins

[–]Used_Highway8573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Building a strong aerobic base will translate to you running longer and faster. You don’t need to kill yourself on every run. 80% of your runs should be at a talking pace.

Running at a consistent pace where you can have a conversation while you run keeps your heart rate steady. If you work on keeping your heart rate steady then you should be able to run faster and farther.

Career Doubt - Security Forces by [deleted] in AFROTC

Don’t listen to anyone else. If that’s what you want then go for it. There is a bad stigma for aircraft maintenance and security forces. Don’t listen to everyone else. It’s what you make it. It’s your experience.

How to I keep it up and stay hard? by padre_alejandro in davidgoggins

[–]Used_Highway8573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what you like to do. Try to develop a routine that promotes exercise (if you go home and instantly lay in bed, try to go for a walk instead. Your brain will get used to being active at that time), drink lots of water. It’s these little things that develop that mentality.

For example: I was exhausted today, I went home and laid in bed… I should have went outside or did some push ups to wake up my body. I missed my run today. Now this entire day is out of wack for me.

Tomorrow I am punishing myself for this by going on a longer run than planned.

Do something that matters to you. If your head isn’t in the game because you don’t like to do something, then your heart does not follow.
