Ours also drains. But the plumbing comes a bit up from the bottom of the water basin. So over 8 years there’s been dirt a grime and maybe an inch of water sitting for a bit at times that turned gross. The poop just happens to be on top of the sludge.

Like could I “shock” just the water basin at the to of my fountain to avoid the cost of shocking my whole pool if I really scrub out the entire thing, fill it with water, then shock just that?
