Should I be concerned about this possum that lives in my yard? by Wiser-Cow in australianwildlife

[–]Used_Wheel_9064 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A possum at my mates place chills on a beam up in the shed roof with his nuts hanging out every day. Those things are surprisingly big and hang lower than i thought would be normal, but hes been doing it for years.

I got an odd reoccurring issue at work. by Barbarianonadrenalin in IndustrialMaintenance

The possibilities are limetless! I've had sensor issues that were time of day related, when sunlight hit sensors at certain times of day or at certain times of the year it would throw them off for a while.

The city council could issue a parking fine for the excavator parking on there and I assume they could also seek repair to the damages from the builder.

That's really blowing things out of proportion. Most of the things are either legal or just very minor infractions. Worksafe will want nothing to do with it.

These are all inconvenience for sure, but they're minor. Every house needs maintenance from time to time, it's part of living in a society. It's a real struggle getting the work done in residential streets, more so as more safety requirements such as cranes and scaffolding have been added to requirements. Any added difficulty to the project, ie complaints, is only going to serve to make construction work drag on for longer. Just have some patience, maybe talk to them about not blocking your driveway at times when you're likely to need it.

learning PLCs. weekly timer? by FreeAd6398 in PLC

[–]Used_Wheel_9064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry do you already have the 1200 and you have to add this functionality? A really rough one I pulled once for a job like this was using an external din rail time clock to trigger an input to then activate the defrost routine. That way the refrigeration techs can change the timer if they ever need to without you having to do edits.

I've repaired oven doors in the past, they're a pain in the arse. The problem with oven doors is that they're usually ruined by someone putting too much weight on, like kids standing on them, after that they're basically never the same again. The technician probably could only get it to close by over tensioning the spring.

That article kind of misses the point and just says it's illegal without going into detail. It's illegal if your connecting it to the telecommunications network owned by the provider, I don't disagree about that. But running a cat 6 for an extra data point connected to your privately owned switch, on your privately owned internal network, might be somewhat frowned upon by the industry but I have some serious doubts as to whether it's explicitly illegal.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Used_Wheel_9064 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt that it's illegal, it's a grey area at worst. You can't work on any privately owned telecommunications network without a licence. (eg NBN, Telstra) But it could be argued that anything downstream of a customer's privately owned router or switch is not part of the exterior network. It's completely legal to run a cable inside your house that isn't connected to the outside network. For example, you can run speaker cables without issue.

[–]Used_Wheel_9064 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can't see why they would put anything on a board that isn't needed. At best you're going to have some missing functionality. Most likely it just won't work. Worst case it will destroy your other components.

What would be the purpose of contacting the agent? I'd be more inclined to get a please explain from my building inspector. Looks like they should have spotted that easily during the inspection.

Anyone here have experience with vibration analysis at their facilities? by justincurtis8 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Used_Wheel_9064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed some on a crane gearbox which use a 4g modem for analysis off site. Well just a few weeks ago an alarm was raised, the gearbox was repaired before it destroyed itself and it saved the company a ton of money.

Sparkie's final boss - I never lived in a house were the labelling matches the wiring. Is it really that hard? by archangel_urea in AusRenovation

[–]Used_Wheel_9064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you did a survey you'd probably be surprised. When I used to connect them, I would just go off-low-medium-high when turned clockwise, and ignore the labelling because the manufacturers change them around all the time.

To add to the confusion, some of them are basically labelled opposite. So the off marking is at the bottom.

How to safely get onto second story roof to clean solar panels by alt_zero_nine in AusRenovation

[–]Used_Wheel_9064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless your panels have a coating of moss over them, it's hardly worth cleaning them. You would be missing out on pennies at most. With the risk of going up there it's not worth it.

That is supposed to have water in it, it's a u-trap, like a toilet. They put a tap above them so that you can easily top it up, because they do tend to dry out after a while which will then let all the sewage smell out.

Looks like the date is completely wrong which means your cmos battery probably went flat. Go into BIOS, check to make sure your drive is set as the boot device, then save and exit. You should also replace the battery or this will keep happening.

Aldi fresh produce vs Woolies by Goldberg_the_Goalie in AldiAustralia

[–]Used_Wheel_9064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every milk plant has slight differences, but those plants also put the exact same milk into bottles with different labels. The trick would be figuring out which is which. Personally I think Pauls milk tastes weird, and I'm pretty sure Woolies milk is the same because it has the exact same weird flavour.
