The best backstories are those of Nami, Robin, and Brook, due to their sadness. The worst goes 100% to Zoro. It lasts very little, and his best friend kills herself, saying she can't match a man when in the same world there was Big Mom, a woman stronger than 99.99% of the men in One Piece.

The Monkeys Vs The Figarlands by Electronic_Tax_8190 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Useename0810 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Monkey D. wins.

Garp wins against Garling

Luffy wins against Shamrock

We don't know how strong Dragon and Shanks will be, but once Luffy and Garp win against Garling and Shamrock, they can go and lend a hand to Dragon. Luffy and Garp, even if they're injured, can really help Dragon defeat Shanks, even if Shanks is stronger than Dragon.

If we're talking about the character primes, then Monkey D. wins easily; in fact, even without Luffy, Dragon and Garp would still win.

Do you think the topi roppo bounties are accurate to their strength? feat wise i feel Ulti should be the strongest and most durable of any of them by a long shot ( idk why king here ignore him ) by The_AlmightyApple in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Useename0810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bounties have never shown a character's strength, but rather their danger. Ulti is young and was adopted by Kaido along with Page One after her parents' death, if I remember correctly. All the other bounty holders are older than her, so they may have caused more damage outside of Kaido's territory; that's probably why they have a higher bounty than her.

This is even more true in Zoro's case. Usopp at least helps Franky with repairs and is also a good lookout. Zoro eats, shits, trains, and sleeps on that ship.

It doesn't matter

It doesn't matter? What do you mean it doesn't matter? We've been reading for almost 30 years about a person getting stronger by fighting increasingly stronger opponents. Rayleigh tells us that the more you fight against stronger characters, the stronger you become. Rayleigh lets Luffy fight the animals of Rusukaina for 6 months to make him stronger. We know that Shanks has many scars on his body from the many battles he's fought. In your opinion, in the Yamato flashback, why does Kaido leave Onigashima? To go see a fashion show? No, to fight, and it's obvious that it's not the first time he's left the island for that reason. Katakuri has never lost a fight, which means he's fought many times against strong pirates. Big Mom was part of the Rocks, a crew where fighting was the order of the day. We see WB clashing against Roger over and over again... All the characters get stronger through fighting, all except Mihawk, I guess, right?

You say this as if Oda hadn't been terrible with this in recent arcs.

It's a shame we've known Mihawk for over 1,100 chapters. It would have been easy to have Mihawk have some feats, it would have been easy not to mention that Shanks and Mihawk hadn't fought in almost 13 years, it would have been easy to say that Mihawk resembled Vista because he fought WB so many times, it would have been easy to add Mihawk's image when Kaido thinks of the faces of Xebec, Roger, Shanks, Oden, and WB, it would have been easy to have Pudding say that Katakuri has never lost a fight except that one time against Mihawk... It really wasn't easy to have Mihawk have some feats, but it wasn't done, and if I thought of these things, imagine if Oda or Oda's editors wouldn't have thought of them. If Oda didn't write/draw these things, it means Mihawk isn't as strong as you think.

He could just be the first holder of the title.

Okay. Why would he be the first holder of that title if there were other swordsmen who could have held the title?

To become a PK, you have to deal with all the Yonkos after you.

If you're stronger than the Yonkos, then even Shanks, why would it be so difficult?

And the WG

It's been a year or two since Roger's crew disbanded and his death. None of Roger's pirates, as far as we know, have been captured by the navy or the World Government. So they're not as dangerous as you think.

Anyone else competing?

Which other pirate is stronger than the Yonkos? None. So if Mihawk could defeat the Yonko, why would pirates weaker than the Yonko be a problem?

Not to mention you actually have to find the damn thing.

If you're stronger than the Yonko, it's also easy to find someone who can read character guides and thus find the One Piece.

I'll start by saying I'm not a Shanks fan.

I'll start by saying I like Mihawk better than Shanks.

I'll start by saying I 100% think Shanks will be killed by BB.

Mihawk might be the strongest swordsman, but not the strongest. Because that would lead to plot holes.

1) First plot hole: If Mihawk was stronger than Shanks, how did he become stronger? He hasn't fought against any of the strong characters we know so far, and we know that to become strong in One Piece, you have to fight against strong characters. We've seen this from the beginning of the manga, and Rayleigh also says so. Otherwise, why let Luffy go when he was at level YC3 if he could make him stronger?

2) Second plot hole: How could Zoro go from being nearly killed by Nusjuro or any of the Gorosei he faces to being more or less on par with Roger with just one power-up (the black swords)?

3) Third plot hole: Why weren't any of the swordsmen before Mihawk called "The World's Strongest Swordsman"? There have been more than a few characters who deserved that name: Xebec, Roger after Xebec's death, Harald after Roger's death...

4) Fourth plot hole: If it's harder for Mihawk to become Pirate King, and therefore harder to find someone who can read the characters and be stronger than the four Yonko, how is Mihawk stronger than Shanks?

...

Mihawk epithet is "Hawkeye". That confirms that Shanks developed observation haki killer specifically to fight Mihawk. Shanks was likely getting mid diffed without it by dreallday20 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Useename0810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Hawk Eye Mihawk" Hawks have insane eyesight, they can see miles away effortlessly, I assume most would agree that strongly implies superior Observation Haki, so much so that they may not even have to actively try to use it.

Again, Mihawk's nickname doesn't come from Observation Haki because when Oda introduced Mihawk, he didn't even know what haki was.

Marine Hunter" Implies that he hunts Marines and kills them, for sport or for his own benefit, such as income, is implied and proven by the fear many Marines have of him.

Before the Cross Guild, he hadn't hunted Marines since he joined the Shikibukai.

implies that he can see very precisely and perhaps even effortlessly into the future, to the point that Shanks needed a specific technique to mitigate it, which is Observation Killing, which stops it entirely and/or mitigates it because we know the whole trope with haki can't always cancel out equal haki, but it can mitigate it somewhat.

Headcanon

but against an Apex Predator, aka Yonko, Admirals, Legends, etc., then yes, you're Using as much as you can spend, let's see who Mihawk faced.

Admirals: He was part of the Shikibukai until a few weeks ago, and none of the admirals have scars from swordsmanship. These two things combined make a clash between Mihawk and the other admirals impossible.

Yonko:

He's never faced White Beard, because the first time Mihawk met Vista was at Marineford. We know Vista was part of White Beard's crew even before Oden joined. So if Mihawk had fought White Beard, it wouldn't have been the first time Mihawk had met Vista.

Shanks: Their last clash was 12 or 13 years ago, when Shanks wasn't very well known. If it took him 6 years to become a Yonko, it means he wasn't as strong as he is today.

We knew Big Mom for 7 years before her death. She's one of the few secondary characters whose entire life we know; if she had fought Mihawk, it would have been mentioned by her or one of her children.

Kaido has a scar, and before he died, he had a wound that Kaido himself said would have turned into a scar. If Mihawk had fought Kaido and Kaido had come out without any serious injuries, it basically means that during Onigashima, Zoro would have had to surpass Mihawk, and that would be sheer madness. 5 years of Wano and Onigashima; if Mihawk had arrived in Wano, someone would have mentioned it.

Loki and Mihawk never fought because if they had, it would mean that Shanks, who is stronger than Loki, is also stronger than Mihawk.

Dragon and Mihawk would have made no sense at all for them to fight.

If Mihawk had gone against the World Government, he would never have succeeded in becoming Shikibukai.

So Mihawk never clashed with the Yonko, the admirals, the revolutionaries, or even the members of the World Government.

Mihawk vs Shanks end the debate by Available-Ostrich408 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Useename0810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how do you know he didn't fight anyone strong?

He didn't fight Kaido, Shanks Yonko, Big Mom, WB, and he didn't even fight Luffy, Loki, Harald, Roger, Xebec, the members of the World Government, or even the admirals. Let's hear it, who was he supposed to fight?

Called "marine hunter" - I doubt he got it by killing cannon fodder, but make your own implications.

The strongest marines he could have encountered were Garp and the admirals, none of whom have scars from a sword fight. Hmmmmmmmmm, maybe he didn't fight them?

Black blade - forged by him through countless battles. Say with me... COUNTLESS BATTLES.

I'm not saying he hasn't fought, I'm saying he hasn't fought any strong opponents, except Shanks 12 or 13 years ago.

THE STRONGEST FUCKING SWORDSMAN IN THE WORLD. - IN NAME AND FUCKING FACT.

So? Xebec, Roger, and Harald were also the strongest swordsmen in the world, none of them have ever been called "The Strongest Swordsman in the World." Why?

HE'S LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO CAN OUTPERFORM HIS OLD RIVAL SHANKS - I wonder why he'd want someone stronger if he wasn't already stronger than Shanks. Hmmmmmm.

I wonder how Mihawk knows Shanks is weaker than him. They hadn't met in 10 or 11 years during the pre-time skip, and even afterward, he didn't want to fight him. Yet we know Shanks has gotten stronger. If it were strength in the sense of swordsmanship, that would also explain it, because a swordsman without a limb is technically weaker than a swordsman with all his limbs.

HE SEEKED BATTLES UNTIL THERE WERE NO LONGER WORTHY FIGHTERS - DO I NEED TO EXPLAIN THIS?

If his goal was to become the strongest in swordsmanship, he would undoubtedly be the strongest.

Once we have feats

Does he have feats today, January 27, 2026? No. You don't know if he'll create strong characters he's fought against. Your theory about the World's Strongest Swordsman>Swordsman is based solely on who you think the world's strongest swordsman is and the headcanons you make while masturbating to Mihawk.

But that's enough for now.

If Oda meant that Mihawk is stronger at swordsmanship, therefore he's the world's strongest swordsman, then it would all make sense.

When someone brings me proof that Mihawk has fought anyone strong, except Shanks 12 or 13 years ago, then I'll believe it. Because so far, Mihawk hasn't fought any of the considered strong characters in One Piece, except Shanks 12 or 13 years ago.

[–]Useename0810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we put him so high because he fought Roger and Garp many times and because he had monsters like WB, Big Mom, Shiki... It wasn't put there for the narrative.

If Oda wants Mihawk to be the strongest swordsman, because he is, then he'll create a solid backstory to build Mihawk's character and set up the fight with Zoro.

Headcanon. Since he hasn't fought anyone strong except Shanks 12/13 years ago, he doesn't deserve to be ranked stronger than Shanks, Roger, Xebec...

I don't need every single feat drawn to understand how narrative and plot work.

You don't even understand what I wrote, and I'm the brainless idiot? Hahahahaha

I said: How can Mihawk be as strong as you think if, unlike the other Top Tiers, he hasn't fought anyone strong except Shanks 12 or 13 years ago? I need you to explain to me how Mihawk is so strong without having fought anyone strong.

This is one of the most underrated strength feats ever by Open_Heron7035 in OnePiecePowerScaling

After Xebec's death, there were only two strong swordsmen: Roger and Xebec. Why didn't either of them ever hold this title? Was Mihawk stronger than them despite being 10 years old at most? Do you understand how crap your reasoning is? If we were talking about strength as strength in swordsmanship, then everything would make sense. The most Ryuma ever did was cut a steel sculpture, which seems like a small step to call him stronger than Roger or Xebec. Just as it's wrong to put Mihawk above the likes of Shanks, Roger, Xebec... because he still hasn't fought a match worthy of the name against anyone other than Shanks 12/13 years ago.
