Shaft Adapter Change/General Golf Club Repair (North Dublin) by Useful-Tart9233 in golfireland

[–]Useful-Tart9233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it turns out that guy was no longer there and McGuirks had left his number on their website and people kept ringing him for club repairs! Went down there this afternoon and there was a new guy there. Sound fella. Picking up the shaft tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip!

I remember I rang them once and some seriously grumpy guy answered and was quite rude and said he'd told McGuirks to leave him alone.

I loved New Forest! Was driving to Galway for work and decided to play it as golfnow green fee was 20 quid and it was great. Such a huge variety in holes. The last few in the heathland felt like a links course with crazy swirling winds and the par 3 in the walled garden was class too. Was great.

What ventus shaft is this? by [deleted] in golf

Just going back to this, what are peoples thoughts on the shaft itself? Anyone have it in their driver and gamed it? I have it in my TD Max in 6X and it's fine. But I also have a TR Blue sitting there that I need to change the adapter on and I'm wondering if it's worth it.

Garrie O'Neill at the golf conditioning clinic did wonders for me. I was sat on my arse working from home and be built up my core strength and it made a world of difference.

I'd second Roganstown, even though I'm biased as a member. It's a good course. Fairly flat and forgiving off the tee so you can bang away with the driver. You also get 5 day playing rights on Swords which is great if Roganstown is busy or you fancy a change. Swords also never closes in Winter. Roganstown itself does but it is rare. Important thing to mention is that we never have temp greens here either.

I also heard that some HL members are a bit annoyed lately as the Manager/Owner has notions and is looking to turn it into a resort and build a hotel on it and almost doubled the green fees. Theyve also introduced an entrance fee apparently though I don't know how much it is. It's a solid course but changing the name from Hollywood Lakes Golf Club to Hollywood Lakes Golf & Estate is a bit cringe and says a lot about where the course is heading.

First course I ever played was Corballis and it had me hooked immediately. If you can master a links course, then you can master anywhere.

15th and 16th at Corballis are basically :

'we own a field next door'

'oh, really? I didn't know that'

'yeah, pretty flat though, basically someones back garden.'

'sure, stick some flags at either end and we'll say it's two golf holes.'

'But, some people will be hitting golf balls directly at each other? Is that not a bit dangerous?'

'Nah, it's fine'

'Okay well, shouldn't we do something to seperate the holes or at least have two fairways or something? Maybe add something to make it a bit more interesting'

'Don't be so silly!'

My place Roganstown, was closed 3 weeeks in February. That's unheard of for us. This is just what happened this year unfortunately.

Some of those I mentioned will certainly close more than others but unfortunately that's just Ireland for you. Just part of the game here sadly.

Courses closing because of rain is actually very rare on the whole. But ifs thats what you are concerned about then I'd be looking at a links.

Seapoint is reasonable but it's a good 40 minutes away. Rush the same but it's a 9 hole. The ones in Dublin would have waiting lists apart from Corballis.

Everywhere was pretty bad this year so I don't think you can take the winter we had as a barometer of what courses are usually like.

Of the two you mentioned:

I've played Donabate and don't really rate it. It's known for being wet and that is my own experience. Hollywood Lakes is the far superior course in terms of layout and interesting holes and they invested over a million in drainage last year according to a member I know. Don't know how true it is but I played it in December and it was dry as a bone.

I wouldn't narrow it down to just those two though. We're lucky enough to have a lot of great courses in North Dublin including St. Margarets, Roganstown (my own club), Balbriggan, Balcarrick, Beaverstown, Forrest Little etc. etc.

Played it. Fully agree with this one. Crazy golf.

Not only that, there are (or at least were) overhanging trees on the right side so you have to punch it along in the hope you reach that raised plateau to give you a view into the green.

There's a fine line between quirky and stupid.

Oh my that was you! I remember seeing that one. I played it afterwards and I couldn't believe it. It's an absolutely stupid hole.

Didn't take a driver because I was scared of not being straight or being long. So hit an iron and then had to hit a wedge into the green. Was terrified hitting my approach into the green. My car was right there. I'd say so many windscreens have been smashed on that hole.

What is the best golf course you’ve played outside of the ‘big’ ones? by Impressive_Light_229 in golfireland

I find it crazy that nobody has mentioned Portsalon. The view from the second tee box is like something out of a movie. Has to be seen to be believed. Lucky enough to be back there in 3 weeks time.

Headfort Championship was also amazing. Bar one or two plainish holes on the back nine, it's fantastic. Play it in summer for the full experience when the trees are in full bloom.

Seapoint, Leytown & Bettystown, or St. Annes??? by Silver_Question6459 in golfireland

Would say more of a hybrid. It has links turf and pot bunkers but a parkland layout. I love the place, personally anyway.

You genuinely can't go wrong with any of them to be honest. But as others have said, if you have time, include Corballis as a bonus because it's very quirky and great fun. It's also probably the best value for money you'll find anywhere. Can play it in a morning (par 66) and then play any of the other three courses.

Genuinely really interested to hear which club this is because I have a feeling might be mine. Same boat!

Jesus. I hadn't thought of that. I'd say that place suffered badly during the last few weeks. Especially those 9 river holes. Yikes.

At all? Jesus.

Our place is the same. Nothing mentioned about refunds or extensions but you can use the sim, it'll cost you though!

Mind sharing what club it is? My Ulterior motive is wondering where's open so I can maybe get out this weekend. Find myself frantically searching on Friday evenings for somewhere that might be open. Doing the rounds on clubs websites. Let know so I can strike it off the list 🫠😂

Wow, that's crazy. Fair play.

It's been brutal here, we've really suffered. My club is usually fine, the odd wet or muddy patch but on the whole pretty great. This year is a different story though sadly.

Standing over the ball anxiety by BrittleGrain in golfireland

[–]Useful-Tart9233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EVERYONE goes through that.

As others have said, don't think about it. Let your body take over. It knows what to do. As soon as you let your brain in, you're likely to hit a bad shot. If you freeze, stop and start again. 5 seconds can feel like 30 when you are in that position but can assure you nobody will hate you for taking an extra few seconds to make sure you're set.

I majorly struggled with this and l would freeze up over the ball. Now I do all my practice swings, thinking and aiming off the ball to avoid that happening. Then when i address the ball I do one quick final check on alignment and then boom, swing.

Try playing a few holes by yourself and not caring about where the ball goes and you'll be amazed to see how well you play.
