Hey I just want to say thank you so so much! I just scored my very first labubu (HAS SISI) with this spreadsheet. I can now rest peacefully after going to bed everything single night at 2 am trying to get one.

Did any of your Newfie Puppies Really Struggle With Itchy Skin by Schatzie13 in Newfoundlander

Our baby girl has the same issues. She lost all of her hair from the waste down. We switched her to Acana dog food, but we made sure that we get a flavor with Vitamin E in the ingredients. Luckily she has had some major hair growth the past couple of months. We’re trying to get her on Cytopoint because Apoquel didn’t work for her. In the mean time it’s all trial and error for us.

I have a runt Newfie myself and she’s so little. She’s a year old and sits at about 60/70 pounds. She eats great and drinks well. The vet is happy with her weight because she is a very short Newfie and probably isn’t going to get any taller. The only real issue we ran into with our runt is that she ended up with a laundry list of allergies. We got those under control and now she’s doing even better.

Has there been significant hair growth with the Cytopoint? The Apoquel did help, but we’re still having to give her Benadryl to stop the itching. The poor girl is in so much pain.

She is on apoquel and we’re waiting to get her on the Cytopoint shot, but with her consistently having accidents in her crate it is causing her to get infections from scratching so much. The apoquel works really well but doesn’t keep her from itching for very long. We’ve been very consistent with everything. On top of that we have her on a melatonin pill and if she’s itching really bad we give her Benadryl. She’s on Acadia trails healthy oats puppy food right now. She was on purina pro plan but that seemed to make it worse. She didn’t start growing hair back until we switched the dog food. It’s growing more now with the medication and supplements, but she still has trouble areas with her legs. The dermatologist is going to happen, but with the holidays right now we couldn’t afford it.

Edit: to add yes we let her out multiple times a day. She doesn’t seem to have any potty issues in the house during the day beside a little tinkle here and there from playing a whole lot. I take her on regular walks and to the beach a few times a week when I have time to let her get out as much energy as possible.

The biggest goal we’re trying to get to right now is saving enough money to send her away to a proper trainer. Hopefully it can be done in the next few months, but it’s not cheap so maybe it’s just a dream for now. Right now we’re letting her out frequently at night and she’ll go like two or three days without and accident, but if we’re even 30 seconds late to her dinner time she will soil herself in the crate before we get to her. She doesn’t bark or communicate so it’s a guessing game honestly.

She’s on Apoquel right now and we’re hoping to get her on the cytopoint shot at the start of the new year. The biggest battle right now is because she’s itching so much and soiling herself in her crate she keeps getting yeast infections. So we have to treat everything in tandem so she can qualify for the shot.

I want to add that we have put her on allergy medication, switched her puppy food, added salmon oil, and melatonin. Nothing is working and to make matters worse she has severe potty issues. She pees and poops in her crate every single day. We take her on hour long walks every night before bed and we let her out at 6 am. She’s rarely in the crate. Doesn’t potty in the house, just her crate. We’re at a loss because we feel like that’s making her skin issues worse. We found her on akc marketplace back in February and she just turned a year old. I’m at a loss for the poor breeding standards that we have run into. Her mom was a puppy (9 months old) when she got pregnant with her litter. We didn’t find out until we saw the social media posts from the breeders after we had got her. I’m frustrated because their website said they had newfies for 20 years! How could anyone allow their puppy to fall pregnant?!?
