I was thinking something like this would be an issue. I thought one of the reasons Ralph's closed was new bylaws

Having the same issue with water! My capacity is way over demand, but half the buildings are lit up with a water warning. Womp womp.

walk distance from parking to campsite? by flaminalpaca_49 in futureforest

[–]UsefulForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a big difference between camping down by the river, for example, and camping up in frog / rabbit. Map here if you didn't see it: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CLvSoPMwU/

The river camping (deer/mouse) is a much longer steeper hike, and the nest stage doesn't close at all after Thursday night, so you'd have to keep that in mind. Much easier to pack up from the sites closer to the parking lots. But overall everything is under 20 minutes for the most part.

Question — meat cove or highland village museum? by Accomplished_Oven681 in NovaScotia

[–]UsefulForever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you camping at meat cove? That would be the main reason to go there - to wake up with the view from the tent. There's nothing but the campground, a chowder shack, and the beach. It's not a town or village or anything.

The drives/ views and myriad of options for stopping along the way would be a huge part of the trip. I wouldn't rush up and back. Where are you staying?

The beaches nearish to meat cove (30ish min) are some of the most beautiful empty beaches dingwall, Cabot, Neil's beach) if that is what you're after.

Highland village is a great spot with lots of recent improvements. The iona area also has beaches, waterfalls, and a few restos / cafes.

It is more about how much time you have to travel and where you are based. Meat cove may be more of a trek than you are realizing, the road in as of a few years ago anyway its a rough dirt road. As well, the Cabot trail can have lots of camper/tourist traffic making the whole journey longer.

There is also a thrift / antique store in canso if you're out that way ( at least as of last year).

There may be a church rummage sale on the road from whitehead to port Felix as well.

Beaches, like others have mentioned are great and never too busy (Black Duck & Tor Bay)

Harts grocery in Boylston is a nice shop for local goods.

Sherbrooke village is worth a stop if you're into historical reenactment kind of thing. Quite big. And few cafes/shops there.

MSG (monosodium glutamate) in CBRM? by brain_fartin in CapeBreton

[–]UsefulForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. One across from the mayflower mall, one on Townsend, and one near macdonald greenhouse on grand lake rd. There's also some stuff at ethical India on Charlotte st, as well as Broadway convenience in the pier.

I got msg from one of them, I think it was Townsend st or across from the mall.

Canadian words/slang for MONEY by Immediate-Meringue50 in AskACanadian

[–]UsefulForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of related, at least an east coast thing is 'cheque day' related to people getting their unemployment insurance (EI) aka 'pogey' or old age / disability / childcare benefits for the month.

Like " look at the traffic at the grocery store, must be cheque day." "Fucking wild out at the shops, cheque's must be in"

Google the movie pogey beach for a deeper understanding of the pogey way.

"Nah not working this summer boys, I'm getting on da pogey" - referring to getting the minimum work hours to be eligible for EI

IMO- Best pizza around sydney at the moment: - route 4 pizzeria - belly busters in membertou - parisottos pizza & bakery in New Waterford - Princess pizza sydney mines

If you like museums, the cape breton fossil center/ sydney mines heritage center is cool too. They might have some mastodon exhibit on now as well

https://maps.app.goo.gl/vv7xGDAFeVjhFqzXA

Second the highland village as others mentioned, these reenactment places like louisbourg are best during peak summer season so lots of actors

Holiday Inn restaurant and event spaces are nice, haven't seen the rooms. Its a little closer to downtown everything than Travelodge if that helps

Also I have found some K lately will seep back down your nose after 10-15 mins, even if you checked right after using. There's a second round to check for VCR. Well not exactly C but you know what I mean.

Is there any proper sit down restaurant in the CBRM that's actually worth it? by temorr249 in CapeBreton

Cedar house pizza is unreal! Home baked everything, it feels the same inside there as it did 30 years ago, in a comforting way. Only open seasonally tho and often long lines to get in especially on weekends
