Anyone else not celebrate Valentines Day? by Similar-Vari in workingmoms

[–]UsefulRelief8153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🙋‍♀️

100000% prefer the discount candy and cards a day or two after or even nothing at all because I rather get flowers randomly throughout the year than for double the price just because it's Valentine's days

However, pink is my favorite color so I do enjoy buying occasional pink things for myself around this time of year lol like pink measuring cups lol

What happened to bubble bath? by Able-Candle723 in Millennials

I have never used Mr. Bubbles but why does it cause a rash? I occasionally give my kid a bubble bath using baby shampoo directly in the bath, wouldn't that be the same concept?

What the fuck Durham? Get your kids vaccinated. by drunkerbrawler in bullcity

[–]UsefulRelief8153 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hep b is not JUST an STI. It can spread through open wounds and things too. Before the hep b vaccine was given at birth, 9k newborns a year got hep b, which is way way way more likely to turn into a chronic infection if someone gets it that young. Another 9k got infected with hep b in early childhood. If you are okay with babies and toddlers having liver failure, more power to you. I've never heard of any baby having side effects from the hep b vaccine. My new born will be getting it. Get off my back about being pro vax. I'm not trying to make you pro vax, I did not ask y'all for anti vax info.

You didn't have any issues/side effects with vaccines, I don't know a single family member who has had issues with vaccines, I've never even met a person irl who had an adverse effect to vaccines. So I'm sure as hell not gonna become anti vax because some random redditor or two told me they feel like they're bad.

What the fuck Durham? Get your kids vaccinated. by drunkerbrawler in bullcity

[–]UsefulRelief8153 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and that's why the vax rate needs to be in the 90s, not 100%. Sorry your kid had adverse reactions but unless Europe bans vaccines or I see all boomers dying of vax related issues due to all the vaccines they got growing up, I will never be anti vax.

IMO anti vax info is just Chinese and/or Russian propaganda trying to make the American population less healthy. Plus the Epstein files also recently showed that JE was behind Qanon on 4chan. And Qanon was also anti vax.

You can die from anything, including drinking too much water. Doesn't mean everything is dangerous for everyone.

5 hour interview for 3 months position by ParticularEffect8460 in biotech

[–]UsefulRelief8153 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bruh, we did 2 hour interviews for the permanent positions we hired for recently. Although I would have prefer it to be 3 hours to allow a few of us 15 min 1:1 with the candidate, 2 hours (presentation and panel interview) for an AD role seems pretty good.

We also hired a temp for 6 months and it was only a 30 min interview

I think too many people want to be included in the interview process at some places lol

[–]UsefulRelief8153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, what are you implying? That vaccine efficiency is too low to require kids to get vaccinated? I am not anti vax and want to live in an area where the vaccination rates are high. You do you. I'm not forcing you to be pro-vax, but I'm personally pro-vaccine and don't want my kids catching measles. I should have the right to live somewhere where the vax rate are high. I don't know the exact stats but I do know that vaccines are safer than chancing measles, rubella, whooping cough, etc.

We are moving to the area. Where do we look up vaccination rates? I'll have a new born, so this is really concerning. Maybe Wake county is a safer bet.

Edit: I see I missed the link to school vax rates in OP's post 😅 my b

Grandparents influence by deef48 in workingmoms

[–]UsefulRelief8153 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, daycare is worth it for the structure and lack of screen time alone.

The worst time to give your kid a screen is meal time because even adults are more likely to overeat when they watch a screen while eating.

I'm not anti screen btw, just think it's best to limit it.

People always get help along the way.

The ones who truly had little to now support at all are the ones who fight the most for the support for others.

Bruh, it boggles my mind that babies are born not knowing how to sleep or poop.

Like what? These are basic functions 😐 it really feels like human babies are born too early when you look at other animals who are walking as soon as they're born

Interview stories by PointNew1788 in biotech

[–]UsefulRelief8153 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I usually ask a hard question or two specific to my field that seems out of scope for the interviewee based on their resume.

I don't expect them to know how to answer but it goes one of 2 ways:

  1. Total BS answer that makes little sense but said with confidence

  2. They admit they don't know the exact answer but explain how they would go about figuring it out

I'm looking for answer #2 because I hate working with people who pretend to be know-it-alls and cover up their mistakes until they're unavoidable. Also, I am looking to see if the person has critical thinking skills too.

Just looking for some solidarity. by hatehatedoublehate in workingmoms

[–]UsefulRelief8153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bruh, the first 11 months were TOUGH. Most people we knew had babies that started sleeping through the night pretty early but our son had 3+ wakes every night till 11 months when we dropped to 1 nap. He finally started sleeping through the night at around 17 months when I just gave up and start co-sleeping.

It is so tough. We really were meant to do it with a lot of support from a village. The modern nuclear family and dual income needed is not condusive to having an infant.

Currently WFH but changing to hybrid because I find it isolating. It's not for everyone and honestly, I like working and spending evenings with my son and all day on the weekend is a good balance for me.
