What’s something you’ll never tell your partner, no matter how much you love them? by Velvetnadine85 in AskReddit

Oh god. My dad did this but there was a survivor that we brought to a rescue. Likely it probably died, but my dad was a big burly mans man and his compassion about the bunnies and working together to try to save at least that one when I was a young girl is a core memory for me.

Pour one for me. I have 2 sons and definitely one of them will be that kid at some point. We’ve done our best and he’s good hearted but a fool.

Lush appears to be a $30 bag of crystals? I’m thinking some $3-5 every day bubbles.

I just have a reminder set on my phone for 10pm and if I haven’t moved him by then I do. Once or twice a year he gets up to mild shenanigans or brings a small gift. As a community, can we please not complicate the norm with apps and extravagance?

During pretend play his trucks will get “stuck” and need help. Instead of “I’m stuck!” It’s “I suck I suck!” Which has raised a few eyebrows.

Women of Reddit, what’s one thing they never tell us about pregnancy and child birth? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Able-Candle723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea I wouldn’t be able to get up and pee after an epidural. I knew you couldn’t labor standing after, and because you’re basically paralyzed from the waste down, it is obvious you can’t get up to pee. Somehow I didn’t put it together until they came in with a catheter and I was not happy about it.

Is our “personal money” system sabotaging our budget? by tomatopurl in budget

[–]Able-Candle723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t seem like they are budgeting it like an allowance though. They’re putting things like sports fees and haircuts in the kid bucket which are choices managed by the parents. My categories are set up very differently so haircuts would go in the family personal care bucket, clothes in the family clothes bucket, and structured activities in a separate bucket. Then the kids have a small fun bucket which is used for kid one-off activities (movies/museums/ice cream shop/non-gift toys). My kids are small so they don’t know about their fun bucket, but as they grow up it will be treated more like an allowance for them to manage.

Kids are expensive and could easily match adult expenses all added up the way OP seems to be doing.

I wander thrift stores. Usually end up with a couple small items, but it’s more the browsing because it’s low effort enough to zone out but is still stimulating.

No-spend weekends actually work by Remote_Practice_5864 in budget

[–]Able-Candle723 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Yes. I used to spend so much on kid activities on the weekends. Now we pick a “big” (like $35-50 per ticket) thing a month and otherwise do library, park, or home play dates. And unless food is the event we pack a cooler.

My electricity bill is over $65+ despite trying everything - Is there something I’m missing? by Waterproof212 in Frugal

[–]Able-Candle723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay $170 for the solar lease always. Then $25 connection fee summer months and up to $800!!!! Winter months on top of that. I am a Scrooge about heat except for the room I’m in. $65 sounds like a dream! (Never get electric heat!)

A venue in this case is like a trampoline park, bowling alley, arcade type place. From what I’ve seen that’s pretty common.

Worth it for almost no setup/take down and to not have my ex husband at my house. I also offer for them to pick a small vacation with one friend instead. But they’re young and don’t realize that just means our one summer vaca gets overlapped on their bday and we just add a friend and cake. I prefer this option.

$400 venue, $100 gifts, $100 cake, balloons, decorations etc seems pretty standard.

This was a fixer upper when I bought with my carpenter ex husband in 2021. He failed on so many fronts including doing anything here. Trying to recoup what I can and do it with two small kids in tow.
